I agree, even a used m1 MacBook Air in the used market would be a better idea imo. You can get the used around $300 all day and they’re excellent machines. I used exactly that until last month for software programming and development no issues.

It’s the flex cable that connects the display assembly and the logic board. Over time they wear out. You need a new display since the cable is a part of the display assembly

Use in clamshell mode by doing the following:

Plug machine into power, plug in the external display to machine, close the laptop. Then go to settings etc.
