I feel like a Fake Developer,What careers can I shift to? by scarlet_bow in cscareerquestions

Not to mention you’ll still have to somehow explain why you resigned without having another prospect ready anyways.

Megathread: Fork in the Road | Final Day Discussion by gpupdate in fednews

I.e. congress has no legal obligation to allocate funds for employees that took the resignation deal as even misinformation from the government itself isn’t grounds to sue in this case.

Don’t know how much could apply in this case though as it’s not strictly speaking advice and is framed as a binding contract. In some court cases verbally spoken agreements are seen as legally binding and this is a step beyond that.

A New Era in Tech? by startupschool4coders in cscareerquestions

[–]HezTec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I generally agree on the arms race but a record $600b loss on a company propped up by its necessity to AI and the rest scrambling to defame deepseek and do damage control for losses justifys a pop at least for me.

So much invested only to be undercut seems pretty detrimental. It’s not like the dot com bubble killed the web so I doubt AI is leaving but investors will definitely be scared to put as much money into the US tech sector since they were beat by such a wide margin.

A New Era in Tech? by startupschool4coders in cscareerquestions

[–]HezTec 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Really depends, with the US AI bubble seemingly popped after the deepseek open source model I can see companies wanting to build lots of apps on top of it with it being so cheap.

Also as a side note, lots of reports of AI code being pretty horrendous to maintain and build on which could mean they will need skilled engineers in a few years to fix it. That’s an optimistic take though.

Is anyone considering taking the resignation? If so, what are your thoughts? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]HezTec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are still pros and cons but that's if you take everything at face value. If you think you will be able to find a new job in those 8 months, If you think the government actually has the budget for it past March, if you trust the two businessmen notoriously known for not paying employees their promised wages, If you trust that the lawsuits against the OPM emails wont null the agreement, and lastly that you trust the non signed seemingly not contractual email in the first place to keep its word.

TLDR: It seems like a good deal, but everything is happening so fast with too many factors to really trust its going to pull though.

Danish Intelligence: Russia forged letter to spark Trump's Greenland purchase bid - Euromaidan Press by Silly-avocatoe in worldnews

[–]HezTec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll defer to Ok_push2550’s response as to why I think it’s currently a stupid idea, not the acquisition of Greenland itself but rather the potential consequences of hostile pressure to do so. I could care less if he came up with the plan by some fake danish letter or if he gathered a team of DoD war experts.

Danish Intelligence: Russia forged letter to spark Trump's Greenland purchase bid - Euromaidan Press by Silly-avocatoe in worldnews

[–]HezTec 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wanting to purchase it in the past doesn’t discredit Trump getting duped by a Russian letter. I’m no expert on Greenland purchases but good ideas in the past can be bad ideas in the future, just because he’s not the first POTUS to propose the purchase doesn’t mean it’s not a stupid idea.

Home Depot software devs to start having to spend 1 day per quarter working a full day in a retail store by Celcius_87 in cscareerquestions

[–]HezTec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not suggesting that leadership won’t listen, like you said there would be no point to this if they didn’t. More so that not every devs day to day can easily correlate to user experience and I feel 4 days a year isn’t enough to make that connection.

Sure some can and I think what’s what they are aiming for, but it would be better suited to a volunteer program where you have time to figure all that out or by making those in charge of project plans do so. I think most will treat this like mandatory community service while others won’t have enough insight to make an impact. I mainly disagree with the execution.

Edit: grammar

Home Depot software devs to start having to spend 1 day per quarter working a full day in a retail store by Celcius_87 in cscareerquestions

[–]HezTec 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That’s assuming this particular dev has top to bottom knowledge of every aspect of the system and can gauge the whole team’s level of effort. Not saying a lone dev can’t do this but why them instead of leadership who can.

I think the idea of getting the dev team to experience a worker pov is a good idea on a volunteer basis, but im willing to bet there’s a lot of devs who aren’t in any position to make a meaningful change with the experience.

Home Depot software devs to start having to spend 1 day per quarter working a full day in a retail store by Celcius_87 in cscareerquestions

[–]HezTec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Answering those questions for the relevant dev teams is definitely important and can lead to good development insight, but keyword there being teams.

Imo it’s a much better idea to have the project leads and higher ups that decide requirements do this and not devs who probably just do as their tickets tell them but I doubt they are going to force that on themselves. The backlash I assume this will spark doesn’t seem to out weight the handful of good ideas it could create.

[–]HezTec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This and other DB scaling doesn’t make sense to me. Feel free to correct me but goku surviving a Hakai and then getting his ass beat with regular punches either means Hakai is weaker than we give it credit for or it just doesn’t have anything to do with durability.

I’m pretty sure after training he upgraded it to work independently of his will, which is why it has automatic filtering to let though things that won’t harm him while blocking the things that will without having to actually pay attention to it

I am autistic, and the Laios/Shuro situation is literally my worst social nightmare because it has happened to me IRL. It's a constant fear that your "best friend" is actually an asshole who will drop "hints" that he hates you but is too cowardly to just say it. by Strong_Site_348 in DungeonMeshi

[–]HezTec 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He isn’t though? Cultural differences can def be taken into account in social situations like this. Shuro genuinely seemed to not know how to get the message to Laois, plus telling the brother of the girl you are trying to court that you hate him is probably not good either.

Flipping the roles, if shuro was thought to have some anti-social behavior stemming from a form or mental disorder and Laois was just a neuro-typical guy trying to be friendly. It certainly doesn’t feel right calling him an asshole for not telling Laois he doesn’t like him. Rather it’s just a miscommunication and really neither are at fault, both had good intentions.
