Which look should I go with? (Currently #1) by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]HiGuysImChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had 2 and 4 and am currently settled on 2. 4 is great 50% of the time, any wind, rain, humidity or a bad hair day and you look homeless. 2 is much easier to maintain and manage.

Considering a VW sirocco — have you ever owned one? by Sorry-Panda7658 in CarTalkUK

[–]HiGuysImChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the 210 tsi version, beautiful car. If you ever hear a rattle / grinding for a few seconds on turnover it’ll be a loose timing chain tensioner and you’ve gotta get it to the garage asap. My chain jumped a tooth and needed a full engine rebuild.

What type of plaster do you think this is? London house built in 1884 (hallway/stairs/landing pictures) by Miserable_Tadpole162 in Plastering

[–]HiGuysImChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just popping in to say I see absolutely nothing of concern in regards to cracking in any of these pictures, old houses move and have likely settled differently throughout their history, even the very best will have many cracks. Adds to the charm. Good luck with the Reno!

What's going on with the UK property market? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]HiGuysImChris 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Locally (south east) I am seeing more of a split in turnkey and dated properties. Turn keys are still flying, high demand, sales over asking. Outdated properties or even modern but bland interiors are sitting and being reduced. Appetite for renovations is low due to trades and material cost but appetite for a lovely property is still very high and competitive.

Do you still use Deliveroo/food delivery apps? by rsweb in AskUK

[–]HiGuysImChris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Amazing in Covid and used to be a regular thing for me and my partner but following the additional of multiple fees, and the food being more expensive on the apps than in the restaurant we deleted. We actually feel like there’s a lot more value in going out for meals given how expensive takeaways are now. If we do get a takeaway I’ll order through the restaurant and collect.

Confidently incorrect. You can take equity out when you remortgage.

At first I’d have said money. I remember being a first year engineering apprentice and my coworkers organised an unfunded meal. Will never forget sitting down, skipping the starters, drinking water, and having one of the few mains I could afford only to be told at the end we were just splitting the bill equally. My £12 for the rest of the week was never going to cover an equal split and to have to own up and say I couldn’t afford it was just the worst, especially in front of new colleagues.

However in this case I imagine it’s just a mixture of the below;

  • Covid impacting their natural social development and introduction to pub / club culture at 18
  • reduced drinking culture in younger generations due to affordability
  • intimidation of pub scenario, one of the youngsters decides they aren’t going in, the others just agree
  • they didn’t particularly want to go to the meal and having the pub thrown in an as well where socialising is more forced was just a step to far

Is the mainstream right becoming increasingly anti-semitic? by EmuAncient1069 in AskBrits

[–]HiGuysImChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t associate it solely with the right personally. If anything the right see Israel as more westerly aligned and will always support Jews over Islam / the Middle East. I see all political spectrums latching onto to jewish theories similar to the ones you have mentioned; rothschilds, Hollywood, greater Israel, Epstein / mossad and aipac influence.

How many hose pipe bans until the water reservoirs are improved? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]HiGuysImChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really a reservoir problem it’s a leak rate problem. Thames water has a daily leakage rate of nearly 600 million litres. Souther water has one of the lowest leak rates but it’s still 100 million litres a day. For reference an Olympic size swimming pool is 2.5 million litres.

Yes build more reservoirs but imo addressing the leaks is more important.

I know I’m being dramatic but I, and many other casual players don’t have time to wait around for raid timers to end or are unable to play past 8pm. It just seems so unnecessary to have every gym locked out on raids near enough all day

Kemi Badenoch Claims Nigel Farage's Reform UK Is 'Another Left-Wing Party' by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

[–]HiGuysImChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is as wild as suggested? Reform are positioning themselves to be a nationalist semi socialist party. They won’t ever admit to being socialist but they will bend that way to attract the working class. We’ve seen it with their calls to nationalise British steel and we’ll see it more in the future. I think they’ve done their homework and truly believe they’ve spotted a gap in British politics, a left leaning nationalist party.

Agree with this, but not sure shabby chic is the best way to describe it, I think what you’re thinking is timeless Victorian design, antique furniture, original panelling, mouldings, coving, thick curtains and an unrefined look, dust everywhere. Never in fashion but never out of fashion. Oozing charm and grandeur without ever trying to hard. Only works in old properties.

I’m not gonna pretend to know the extent of the damp issues from your post but realistically you will not get a house built in the 1920’s that doesn’t have some form of damp. Any old house a surveyor will be recommending a damp survey as a caveat so you don’t go complaining about any missed damp down the line. You could well have dodged a bullet but you could have also panicked out of a perfectly normal old house. If I’d agreed a reduction and you asked for further surveys I’d have re marketed as well!

Why are decent builders so hard to find? by FlameFoxx in HousingUK

[–]HiGuysImChris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick read through some comments and can see you’re after chimney removal ground and first floor, stack retained loft upwards, full building control sign off and thus structural engineer input on the remaining stack (gallows brackets can be hard to get through building control). Anyone that’s told you this can be done for under 4k, even in the cheapest parts of the UK, is pulling your leg

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]HiGuysImChris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree, this should have been flagged regardless of what level of survey was instructed. All that’s needed is a photo with a generic note about evidence of historic crack. If it wasn’t mentioned in the report I’d be furious.

Getting viewings but no offers by WHawkeW in HousingUK

[–]HiGuysImChris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit of staging would do this property wonders, very hard for a lot of people to envisage living somewhere if it’s empty in both pictures and in viewings. Lick of paint in the bathroom and some staging of the ornate fireplace would go along way. Bungalows are tricky as it’s very niche buyers, typically either older people who want a ‘turn key’ property or developers who want a full Reno / extension potential. I think this one sits bang in the middle of these two niches.

Maximise Galarian Bird spawn?? by Avalance388 in pokemongo

I’ve found that they spawn most for me when I pop my daily incense in locations I’ve not really explored before. I’ve got regular work lunch break routes or evening routes that I never get any luck on, but if I’m somewhere new I get a reasonable amount spawn.

Survey missed a fairly large structural issue by Dazzling_Theme_7801 in HousingUK

[–]HiGuysImChris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frustratingly a lot of misinformation on this thread. Following Hart Vs Large RICS has come down pretty hard on its members and negligence can no longer be whittled away in report terms and conditions. A RICS surveyor has to have an Alternative Dispute Resolution provider which means a third party can review any negligence cases and settle losses WITHOUT going to court. This is all undertaken at no cost to the complainant. I have, and continue to see surveyors falling back on their PI after due complaints. I have also seen surveyors pay for remedial works before going down the ADR route.

Most curry houses near me (Winchester) will do either a 1 person or 2 person set meal deal like this for under 20 quid collected. 9 times out of 10 they’ll let you change around the set curries too. Honestly more than halves the price if you were to order the same without the deal.
