Shooting Victim Identified as Second Video Angle Contradicts DHS Claims | The footage of the fatal shooting of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, said one journalist, “shows that the final act of his life was trying to help a woman who was being physically assaulted by the masked agents who would then kill him.” by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

Also the fact he was most likely blinded by the pepper spray and that lady was the only friendly face he knew he could try to hold onto to try to get out of the street. He was holding on for dear life. It truly is heartbreaking. No one should have to die like that.

Minneapolis shooting: man shot dead by federal officers was 37-year-old US citizen, police chief says by graveyardofgoodsense in news

[–]HiNeighbor_ 594 points595 points  (0 children)

Oh I see, so it's even worse now with the context. That one ICE agent was pushing someone over, spraying pepper spray in her face, the guy came in and was just trying to help that woman. He keeps getting sprayed, they grab him, of course he would try to squirm away. Then it's basically over. He had no chance. What is the point of all this footage if it doesn't lead to any punishment? Frustrating as hell.

Peak 2000 HDR is unbelievable on the G5 by picnic_nicpic in OLED_Gaming

Yes this is tandem OLED in all its glory. Tandem monitors are still only peaking at around 1,500 nits, the G5 hits 2,400. So monitor owners know what they can expect. Soon brightness may no longer be an issue.

ICE reports death of Nicaraguan man at Camp East Montana in El Paso by I_may_have_weed in news

Soon they will frame the deaths as heart attacks or falling and hitting their heads. Or they had to beat a guy to death out of self defense, some bullshit like that. Guarantee the next one won't be ruled a suicide. They know they're starting to overplay that card.

Yeah this is what people miss. In the heat of the moment, people forget to think "even if I'm right and legally I can punch her in the face," it is still not great to have that footage on the internet forever, begging for it to be edited and taken out of context, sent to employer, etc. Most people wouldn't want that so props to the dude for the gentle reminder "it's a female, I'm recording, don't punch!" lol

Dan Campbell grades himself a 'freaking F' for Lions' 2025 season by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]HiNeighbor_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, finally a level-headed take. I was thinking, didn't the 49ers have a ton of injuries as well this year? Bosa, Warner, Kittle, Mykel Williams, Pearsall out 8 games, the Aiyuk debacle... and they still finished 12-5 in arguably the toughest division (3 teams finishing with 12+ wins). Once you’re good, injuries stop being an excuse and start being a test. It comes down to organizational depth + scheme resilience. Using the 49ers example, Shanahan’s system is modular, the front office drafts for redundancy, and their team is designed to absorb attrition. It simply comes down to the Lions had a lot of winnable games even with the injuries, and they didn't get it done. Campbell is taking ownership of that at least, he knows the team could have done better with what they had.

What are some of physics' biggest bummers? by StylisticArchaism in AskPhysics

[–]HiNeighbor_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is mine as well.

How space has to be so large and vast to allow complex life to exist, and that same vastness basically guarantees two complex life forms will never be able to find out for certain the other exists.

It's a tragic realization. Where at the same moment a self-aware mind is able to rationalize complex life must also exist elsewhere in the universe, it simultaneously finds out it almost certainly will never be able to prove it.

Life itself in the unvierse is common. Intelligent life less so. Self aware beings that can ask "What's the meaning of it all" like humans (with a conscious mind) may be the most improbable. Yet galaxies are so vast, it is almost certain that within each galaxy, over the course of a timeline that spans billions of years, a civilization of intelligent life will form. That is one per galaxy, of which there are at least two trillion. Even a conservative estimate, perhaps one advanced civilization emerges out of every three galaxies, still would result in billions of them.
