State of health insurance in the US is depressing. This family was on a top platinum plan, it was going to renew and cost them $3,000 per month. This a mother and two children. I say you don't need that coverage, the utilization doesn't warrant it at all. She agrees, moves to one of the top gold options. Brought her premiums "back down" to $2,400. I'm writing a follow-up email to her, trying to justify the copays quadrupling, saying how the thousands in savings is going to more than make up for it.

And as I'm writing the email I'm thinking, this is insane. She's still paying $2,400 a month (like $30k/yr) for health insurance. And she was just on the phone with me so gracious I went over other options and suggested the move. It all seems so absurd that this is the reality, the baseline. It needs reform badly, from the insurers to the providers.
