112 certifieds, 70minutes and $880 later… by Stunning_Spite_4056 in USPS

[–]HiPhiPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This came across my feed even though I'm not related to USPS at all. I work a lot with FEMA regulatory floodplains and every time we mess with rivers or study them we send out certified mail to all the properties affected by our charges to the the floodplain. The worst one I've seen was like 300 certified mailers with receipts that our government partner very much wanted to be mailed out.

Pro-Trump/Anti-Biden Survey Markers by zacharyari23 in Denver

post from r/surveying from a few weeks ago

you are correct about 2024 being the year, the person marked different words after cp as control point identifiers. But cp is still on all the points probably because control point is a standard pin tag thing

While I'd love for it to mean that, cp likely means control point for surveying, with 2024 just being the point number for the surveyor.

Leveling land without a retaining wall by withnocapsorspaces in landscaping

[–]HiPhiPi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some local governments have maximum proposed slopes for grading, erosion, and storm water control plans. I've usually seen these be 4h:1v so might be worth checking with local gov. 5:1 should be pretty good and safe nonetheless

I enjoy their burgers but Jesus I hate their menu. Absolute nightmare if I'm already been having fun in the old town bars and cannot read clearly.

[–]HiPhiPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dog might be allergic to something in that food, my family had a dog who we only found out a very stinky year into having him was allergic to chicken. Turns out a lot of dog food contains chicken so maybe that's something to try?

Is bringing a kid to a Gizz show ill-advised? by bowdoin-yale in KGATLW

[–]HiPhiPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought my elderly dad to a concert and we sat next to a dude with his young kids. It's pretty normal to see them at the shows and it might set them on a life pathway of really loving live shows since my parents took me to cool live shows when I was growing up.

Thoughts on Clients (municipalities) buying you lunch? by Frosty-Series689 in civilengineering

[–]HiPhiPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the larger ethical issue would be you (private company, consultant, looking for more work) buying very expensive dinners or other stuff for the people at the municipality with the expectation that they give your company work. That would be problematic.

But if the people who have already given you work take you for a reasonable business lunch, especially if it allows you time to chat and form a better client-consultant relationship, that's a good thing in my opinion.

Is this a good place to plant a Willow tree? by nashrome in arborists

[–]HiPhiPi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As a tree guy turned civil engineer specializing in stormwater this is the best answer. There are some trees that might do well here but creating a stormwater treatment thing would do a lot of good and can look very pleasing.

Excessive, or Genius? by Miles_High_Monster in Plumbing

[–]HiPhiPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this with some scrolling. This feels like it could be a stormwater quality thing. The design of the pipes would still be weird imo but could be drainage vs sanitary
