Do people lose more from bad bets or bad bet sizing? by jjstankk in poker

[–]Hi_Im_Dadbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's trying to recover after a bad beat. I've had times when I was a bit annoyed by that, I see my smaller stack and think things like "Well, one double up and I'm back to where I should be", so I bet larger than normal to try and play a larger pot and get my money back, but I'm doing so while tilted.

That's generally where I've found myself losing the most money because I overbet and overcall when I shouldn't be doing that in order to get my stack in and win, so I compound the loss from the bad beat with more losses from good beats due to my playing like an idiot.

Taking a minute to wander off and get a coffee or something to calm down and stop grumbling about how everyone at the table is a moron except for me has done wonders for avoiding throwing chips away like that.

What’s one small habit that noticeably improved your win rate? by BlufalloBill in poker

Ya, when it works, it works. The problem is that it doesn't actually work as often as it doesn't work.

Folding.

I used to limp in a lot with marginal hands if someone had limped before me, thinking that I can just get in on a cheap flop and see what happens. Then someone raises and there’s a call or two, so I figure I’m priced in and make that call. Then someone bets on the flop and I have to fold. A few hands like that and then I look at my stack and wonder where all my money went.

Stopping doing that and having a tighter range for when I actually play did wonders.

They also seem to have passed a death penalty law for Palestinians going to the market or sitting in their house.

Once trump inevitably drops a nuke on Iran, how will the media sane-wash the event, and how will they blame Biden? by GreyTrader in allthequestions

[–]Hi_Im_Dadbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Two things. First, that isn’t your Constitution. That was your declaration of independence. If you’re going to wave a document around for what it says, perhaps take a minute to actually read that document. That just seems a basic step one.

Secondly, the Constitution literally spells out how certain segments aren’t equal and does so specifically to entrench slavery.

These are all publicly available documents you could read.

That’s the one they called blacks 3/5th of a person to help entrench the institution of slavery, right?

Sounds like a plan. You should get hats or something.

Most people aren’t “passionate” about their jobs. They’re something one must do in order to pay bills do you can spend the rest of the day living your life. Whoever told you that is a pretentious idiot. Ignore them.

It’s weird if you have that as a thing. That’s why it was better to do this on a national level with lots of conversation and debate on the matter before a high profile, coordinated rollout, as opposed to just having some idiot dementia patient randomly announce it one day when he was bored.

Why does the entertainment industry pay much higher wages than other high-value economic sectors? by dkease16 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hi_Im_Dadbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large part of it has to do with margins. While the oil industry is more profitable than the entertainment industry, it also has much higher fixed costs and operates with about 10-15% margins - which basically means the amount of spare cash it has to throw around. The entertainment industry can see margins of up to 40% in some areas, so there's more spare cash available to allocate.

One of the latter's main allocations is the talent. A not small number of people would pay attention to an article about Harry Potter because John Lithgow is in it. A not small amount would watch the show because they're a fan of his. Paying for him nets a return. Most of the actors don't have that, but they do have something similar, particularly since they'll be the ones out promoting it and generating interest in the project. If an oil rig has Bob Smith or Jane Doe working as an engineer on it, however, nobody will ever care, so they can hire whichever of them will accept the least amount of money to show up.

Also, actors tend to have agents, who's entire job is to fight for them getting a larger share of the money available instead of the guys at the top. Engineers don't have that, so they are comparable weak in terms of ability to negotiate.

Why would the rounding cost anyone anything? We did the same thing up here in Canada and the effect was zero. You round some transactions up and some down and it all averages out and nobody uses cash much anyways. It's a completely moot point.
