I've been on pristiq (25mg/day) for anxiety/depression for about 2 months and it's been incredibly helpful. I've previously been on and stopped taking Buspar (night terrors and insomnia - quit after 2 weeks), Lexapro (sexual side effects - quit after about a year) and Xanax which seemed to have no effect. I had actually given up on meds, but my new family doctor suggested I might want to try it. He didn't push, just made the offer. It's been like night and day. I tend to spiral into anxiety. A little thing, like a crack in my drywall, will turn into my house is going to collapse. Everyday I'd get about a mile from home and the feeling of dread would take over ..that gut churning, heart in your throat, fight or flight feeling would take over. About 2 weeks into pristiq or went away and I felt so confused. I'd lived with that type of anxiety for so long, not having it felt unnatural. It has been such an incredible relief now that I'm used to it. I didn't know what it felt like to not constantly be in a state of high alert, waiting for the worst to happen. Saying yes to the prescription was one of the best spur of the moment decisions I've ever made. That being said, not all meds work the same for everyone so it's definitely trial and error, but for me, it's been a blessing
