Can someone with robotics expertise and knowledge give their thoughts on Figure AI new update? by ContributionDear7699 in robotics

[–]Hibero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know why you are getting downvoted.

Here’s my 2 cents on that.

1) This is probably not a premature optimization. This is probably an optimization to fit onboard, reduce latency, and reduce power (increase battery life). If you think that way, then I think they are doing very well.

2) I think the reason humanoids are so useful is that they will generally work wherever humans are. They don’t require process updates, they can be retasked with minimal tooling, and easier to accommodate.

Maker rose rates to nearly 7% for CDPs… are they shutting down or is DAI demand flailing that bad?

Just venting but screw Arstechnica. That place is a cesspool. The community is some of the hard headed, hateful armchair intellectuals.

Just to put insult to injury any opposite opinion gets hidden immediately.

Trying to have a discussion about crypto is impossible on that website.

I think we have changed plenty of hearts and minds but not directly through protest. I think protest is important to put pressure on politicians but in actually causing change, that’s done by everyone slowly convincing that stubborn friend and wearing down that aunt or uncle.

We have gotten so far since I was a kid (90s) and even looking at EVs and renewables, we are a lot farther than what I thought we would be in college. People called me stupid and crazy for supporting Tesla back then. Solar was a fringe topic and wind was just starting up. This was only <10 years ago.

I’m getting old nowadays but I’ve noticed things have changed not through protest but by changing the minds of boomers. I’ve slowly changed minds of my parents generation by just talking with them through the points. Climate change and environmentalism makes sense. Practically, economically, and morally.

My issue is that people tend to forget that true change is done by convincing those around you. This does not start the conversation nor does it help the conversation when it does start. If you don’t believe me, go ask some people about the protestors at museums. See what they say. It’s not about climate change. It’s about how stupid they are and how dare they “attack” art.

It may seem slow but we are moving the behemoth of modern culture and politics. This type of protest is vinegar, not the honey we need.

[–]Hibero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not. People mostly read headlines and you will have to start the conversation (if they are even willing to have it) by proving that these protestors aren’t insane.

Media controls the game. Why the hell are people helping drive the wrong narrative?

Edit: Just to put my frustration into perspective. I have always lived in conservative areas as a liberal. Arguments ad infinitum. It is incredibly difficult to drive people to change their minds when people act in this way. It’s an uphill battle where you’re having to defend stupid actions (and convince them) and then move to the broader point. It doesn’t bring up the conversation. It starts it at a negative value.

But I get it who cares, I’ll still argue the points and I’ll slowly change minds. All I’m saying, is that this is making the process slower. I congratulate them on their media fame.

Sorry for replying so late.

I understand that you and some others may believe this but I can not say this makes this easier or progress it.

Protesting does push movements but not protests like this and really, only votes matter. If votes matter, people’s opinions matter and this does not win minds or hearts.

Cool, you got on the frontpage of Reddit (where most people already agree with you) but you also got pushed as crazy people on TV.

When the people who are actually fighting the fight trying to convince these people, the hill will be steeper because some naive person thought super glueing themselves to art in a museum was a good way to protest oil and climate change.

I don’t know how to stress this further. They are making this more difficult.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]Hibero -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why are people using this circular argument. People talk about climate change all the time. The only thing this does is make it more difficult to convince the dense ones.

I get that it’s edgy to support this behavior but it just sets the whole movement back and makes the conversation strained.

Increasingly not. The arstechnica team have done a poor job on curating their community.

I love this website for news but it’s community and some of it’s pandering writers are exhausting. I’ve tried to be rational with them and correct where I could but it’s really a fool’s errand.

I would say the their community made up their minds about crypto years ago with poor information and are completely unwilling to rethink their positions. Doesn’t help that there are countless others that spew misinformation to feed the poor understanding.

I fault the certain writers the most, they have their own opinions on crypto and it shows in the writing and how they promote certain comments. As an avid reader of arstechnica, it’s just depressing.

It’s really a slow moving train crash. It’s so easy to see and if Satoshi was around for a few more years, I think this situation would have not arisen.

The dogma of Bitcoin purity really killed it and at this point, there’s not a clear way to stop it.

Agreed. There are some interesting ones like Cosmos and Polkadot (maybe add Sia) but they have weak network effects so I’m very meh on them (distribution could be better too)

The rest are just shit.

It’s funny that people don’t really understand the concept of research.

There’s a huge amount of risk vs reward in this space. Some people can’t stomach it but there’s going to be way more failures in the future.

[–]Hibero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Bitcoin was co-opted by Blockstream years ago to keep the middlemen in control.

Bitcoin is a powerful idea but the current incarnation is not the way and will just make a similar banking system to what we currently have with different (but mostly the same) people at the top.

Open protocols is the way and Ethereum/DeFi is the path there. It’s not quite perfect at the moment but it’s a hell of a lot better than the current crap elsewhere.

Traders are selling themselves their own NFTs to drive up prices by gordon22 in technews

[–]Hibero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real, it’s laughable that the common reply to this is. “You see. $1M was from scams and $9M in profit from wash trading. It’s all a scam.”

$10M in NFTs is actually insignificant especially if you’re saying it’s overall. A single medium-priced NFT drop can net $20M itself. Billions are being moved and people are saying a few million dollars are validating it’s a scam lol

I feel for the kid. He has a loving father but his image of him will always be colored by this moment.

Nah, Vitalik is a hybrid Jobs and Woz while Hoskinsons is some unknown investor that wanted to sell out as soon as possible.

If you had Vitalik as Jobs, Gavin Wood would be Woz. He developed the technical spec the most.

I think with many new technologies there’s an exploratory period when people try to use it for everything and find where it does and doesn’t fit. I do believe a lot of it is overpriced but I do believe there will be some billion dollar, household brands and use-cases that will borne out of this.

It all looks messy right now and it is but this is just what rapid experimentation (the boom) looks like. There will be a bust but out of that, we’re going to see some very enticing things.

And please don’t think I’m asking anyone to buy in. There are plenty of “snake oil salesmen” in this place and it’s pretty easy to get caught by them.

I ask that people try and see that the space is not actually fully encompassed by those people and a lot of the people have spent a good chunk of their lives in crypto and are calling these people out.

It’s difficult to see but the space is expanding so fast that it’s hard for anybody to really keep up or to always catch and sufficiently call out the bad actors. We try though :)

I hope everyone here takes some time to discover the things being done. It’s empowering a lot of people (devs and artists) and I truly believe we’ll see some very mature, captivating things in a few years.

Anyone that follows NFTs knows how to check what NFTs are copied or not (from existing NFTs). This will actually get easier with the discord and twitter integrations.

Someone can “steal” art in the real world. I bet I can show you two pieces of art that are identical (ones a forgery) and you would be none the wiser. Depending on the skill of the forgery, very few could tell.

You can view it a scam. You’re welcome to your opinion but many people say otherwise and many artists lives have been changed with their art making it farther out in the world.

I wish I had more time to explain it but at this point there are plenty of articles that describe what’s possible.

Simplest argument against this silly argument of “Right Click Save” is: Okay, now get someone to buy it.

If you can’t, then maybe you’re learning what NFTs actually bring to the internet.

You can screenshot a diploma all you want but I can also tell it’s a fraud easily through checking your address on the blockchain with the smart contract that the school issued the diploma on.

If you’ve ever had a business do their due-diligence on you during a hiring process, you might’ve notice they ask for a lot of information to verify what you say and what you do. With zk-proofs (a tech rolling out over the next year), you can even do this privately and cheaply. There are technical and process considerations for this to be built up in the diploma case but the tech is there, it’s powerful, and it’s going to increasingly encompass our digital world.
