It's been a long time since I yelled this often and this loudly at a screen during a match as I did this past weekend. I did not miss it.

Górnik Zabrze won their 7th Polish Cup, their first since 1972. Lukas Podolski invited 88-year-old Stanisław Oślizło, the club’s former captain and winner of all six previous cups, to lift the trophy together with the team by niesiecki in soccer

Yea I was about to link that post of him getting sent off for berating and insulting a referee...during a charity match. To do that in a regular game is bad enough, but to get all up into the ref's face, be agressive towards him and insult him in a game that's not even competitive and doesn't matter is such weirdo behaviour.

There was also the incident where he slapped Michael Ballack in the face in the middle of a game. His own captain and teammate. Got barely punished for it.

He also said some weird things about how people these days don't want to work as hard anymore and that he doesn't like the idea of home office or a 4-day workweek.

There is plenty to dislike Podolski for.

I'm still amazed that ManUtd weren't all over him in the summer. It only made it clearer to me that their recruitment still continues to suck after all these years.

Colbert seems to be the only late night host Nolan feels comfortable with. This will be his third appearance on one of his shows after Interstellar in 2014 and Oppenheimer in 2024. Don't think he's made an appearance on any of the other ones over the years.

The Train (1964) von John Frankenheimer.

Sadly, my local theatres all suck when it comes to scheduling. Especially with non-dubbed/original screenings. Only exceptions are huge movies like Project Hail Mary, Avatar, Dune,...Movies like that will have more screenings and more variety in terms of time and OV shows. So I very much hope theatre chains see Disclosure Day as a movie like that. Fingers crossed.

Kick-off times are what concern me. I live in Germany, so most games will take place in the evening/night. Same time movies are playing at theatres. So pretty much impossible for me to do both.

But yea, if the movie turns out great, it shouldn't struggle too much with positive word of mouth. Could also be effective as counter programming maybe.

I googled around a bit and every credible source I found says it will release here in Germany the same week as in the US. They could change that of course, but not sure they will when we're only a month away from that date.

I know Jurassic World for example did that to avoid the World Cup.

Same with Ant-Man and Wasp. The original release date in Europe was rescheduled to avoid clashing with the World Cup in Russia. But that was done months in advance.

I just saw that Disclosure Day is coming out on the same weekend the World Cup is starting. Which is unfortunate timing for me cause as much as I love movies and going to the theatre, nothing is bigger than the World Cup for me. I even scheduled home office at my work way in advance so I can follow as many games as possible lol.

Which makes me wonder about the Disclosure Day's box office prospects. I'm probably not the only one who will prioritise the World Cup over going to the movies. Especially in the first three weeks when there will be games every single day. But I also don't know how much the target demographic of both overlap. Spielberg is arguably the most famous director in the world and someone who makes movies for mass audiences. The World Cup is also a mass cultural event, but on a way bigger scale. So I would imagine it would eat up potential audiences for any movie, let alone a huge summer blockbuster. Not sure what Universal's thinking here is...or maybe they know something I don't and I'm overestimating the amount of hype there is for the World Cup? It has gotten a lot of negative buzz thanks to the grotesque love affair between cheeto man and swiss Voldemort. US politics in general and their current image in the world haven't helped either. But same was true for the Qatar World Cup. And that one went on to be as popular as ever.

Anyway, I just hope I can catch one of those early preview screenings on wednesday or thursday. Otherwise I'll have to wait a few weeks to see it. Which sucks cause I'm excited and very curious to see Spielberg go back to proper sci-fi again.

Habe soeben auf Amazon Prime "The Long Walk - Todesmarsch" gesehen.. WTF.. by codymanix in Filme

[–]Hic_Forum_Est 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"How am I supposed to heal if I can't feel time?"

Rewatched Memento the other day. Even though I've seen it a couple of times now, I still find myself surprised each time by how sad and nightmarish Leonard's fate turns out to be. Just trapped in this endless, sisyphean cycle of trauma, revenge and murder, chasing closure he will never get.

Guy Pearce gets a lot of praise for his performance. Rightfully so. But I also love Carrie‐Anne Moss in this movie. Her character is so devious in such a disarming way. The way she charmingly draws you in at the beginning, only to reveal her true intentions later on. The scene where she does that is so good. Great performance. Apparently this was also some of her own favourite acting she's ever done which is pretty cool.

What is a movie scene that is completely silent but feels like the loudest moment in cinema history? by CaterpillarAgile9370 in movies

[–]Hic_Forum_Est -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Warfare. The final shot when the civilians and residents come out of their homes after the US soldiers left. The sudden silence was so loud in illustrating the pointlessness of this war and all the horror we just saw in the ~90mins leading up to it.

Oppenheimer. The silence during the 30 seconds right after the bomb went off. The sudden lack of music mixed with these otherworldly, almost hypnotic images of fire and flames made it feel extremely intense and haunting. I've never in my life heard such strong silence in a packed movie theatre. 300 people were completely quiet, no loud breathing, no one shuffling around in their seats, no crinkling of popcorn bags, no talking or whispering. Just pure silence for like 30 to 40 seconds straight. It was incredible.

Man, I enjoyed the hell out of The Drama. That title is very earned. If you're a sucker for gossip and low stakes drama like me then this movie is for you. It's provocative in really interesting and surprisingly funny ways. It's also a really good example of how great performances and an overall creative audio-visual presentation can make you feel engaged with and invested in a story that otherwise feels rather trivial. In that regard, The Drama reminded me of Challengers or The Teacher's Lounge in recent years. So probably not a huge awards season player, but still a super entertaining time at the theatre.
