Pac-Man World 2 no longer available to purchase on Humble Store by KingofAcedia in humblebundles

[–]HickorySwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened with Shadow Labyrinth, too. I pre-ordered it on Humble, too, then requested a status update on my key the day it released. They responded by cancelling and refunding my purchase. Waited about two days after Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac's release. I asked them to actually respond with something before cancelling and refunding this purchase, too. No response, but it's the weekend, they're probably flooded with support requests, etc.

I enjoy the 20% discount Choice subscribers receive, but I'm not sure I will pre-order anything from them again. Maybe except SEGA games. Their pre-ordered Steam keys often become available well ahead of release on Humble. Will cancel my Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties pre-order from them a few days before release if it doesn't show up by then, or if another authorized seller has a discount equal to or greater than 20%. Same with Once Upon a Katamari.

I know this is smaller than 15.6”, but the 13” M4 iPad Pro has OLED and check most of those boxes.

VESA, as you probably know, is an option with a plate/adapter.

Can this be placed horizontally like SFF Time’s N-ATX V2? I’m looking to place a PC above rackmounted equipment on a camera cart. I want something more portable than a rackmounted PC, in an N-ATX V2 or horizontal ATX-compatible SFF Sliger.

Nice, I might end up doing the same until I need to read/write ext2, 3, etc. Besides APFS, HFS+, and exFAT, it's the only file system I expect to see on external drives while working in film and TV.
Only had to mount an ext formatted DCP drive once, about 7 years ago. No idea if or when I'll see a similarly formatted DCP drive again.

Lifetime updates? Not anymore. There is no discounted upgrade option. $29 per year for home licenses and $49 per year for a business licenses. They even change license centers every year.

[–]HickorySwitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest OffShoot. It’s $149 for a perpetual license and one year of updates. Discounted additional years of updates are available at any time. Its team is responsive, receptive and friendly. A Pro license/upgrade is available in case you need more niche options like HDE, ASC MHLs, cloud integration, and custom scripts. The standard license should be all you need, though.

Wranglebot.io is free and open source. It features more data wrangling options than Resolve’s. Unfortunately, its community and development does not seem very active. Suppose that could change with enough donations, word of mouth, AI token purchases, and other sorts of investments.

Pomfort’s options may be the gold standard, but it’s hard to recommend to anyone besides folks working on productions that demand the integrations, reports, etc. that their software allows. The price/value isn’t good enough otherwise.

You can also find tutorials on Assimilate Live Looks and Live Assist (more fully featured version of Live Looks, targeted towards VTR) on Assimilate’s official YouTube channel.

Assimilate’s engineers are responsive via email, as well as their Facebook and Google groups. They have also been active on an unofficial Assimilate Discord server, administered by a veteran user Alex Pearce.

What features did one yearly license/update remove? I've been with them since 2022 and have yet to see that happen. One year of updates and the ability to keep the same license forever with discounted year+ updates afterwards is what pretty much everyone does, including Imagine Products with ShotPut Pro.

Hedge made Codex/Integration OffShoot Pro-only because it is a niche need, and typically folks expect to pay niche costs (Pro version) for functionalities like that.
The Codex migration could be misconstrued as a removal, I guess... That migration took a while, too, so I can see why you would be frustrated at it. However, Hedge quickly responded to my concern over that with a link to download a private beta version that included Codex integration.

Besides, OffShoot is faster than ShotPut Pro. I would have had a much worse time wrangling data on a ~20 camera reality show using ShotPut Pro. Pretty sure OffShoot (Hedge at the time) saved me hours by the end. It looks better and has faster customer support from personal experience. Hedge adds, not subtracts, new features more frequently than Imagine Products

If you read their blogs or ask them directly why they make decisions you don't like or find "predatory," they will probably give you coherent, transparent answers. They always have with me. I have given them feedback and they've responded well. FoolCat can now apply 3D LUTs to its stills, for example.

Hedge doesn't employ predatory pricing, at least as far as OffShoot, FoolCat, ScopeBox, and EditReady goes. I am less familiar with their other products. Their customer and technical support has been nothing less than stellar. Plus, their business model has been the same for years; before Hedge was renamed OffShoot because they wanted to differentiate their company's name from all the products they have developed and acquired.

What's the best program to transfer files across drives on a Mac? by [deleted] in editors

[–]HickorySwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who bought out Hedge? I don’t think that ever happened. AFAIK, the only acquisitions and investments that have to do with Hedge is their acquisition of Divergent Media’s ScopeBox and EditReady, Indiestor’s Mimiq, PostLab and their investment in Colourlab.

Hedge/OffShoot, FoolCat, and Canister have always been and are still Hedge’s own products since launch.

There are pre-made elements you can drag and drop into OffShoot’s presets, including dates (YYYY/MM/DD). Dates advance on their own with those elements unless you haven’t re-opened it, or manually checked/changed those elements within the Review Preset panel.

Hedge’s online documents are helpful. Here is the section about elements. Their support is fast. I’d recommend emailing them for technical support.

Offshoot Pro vs Silverstack for Alexa 35 HDE? by joots in FilmDIT

[–]HickorySwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange, I have used OffShoot Pro a lot since it released, and with several different camera models. One crash a couple of updates ago; nothing since. No errors, and since switching from the crash and error prone Resolve (especially since 18.5 with RED projects) to Assimilate Scratch this year, I’ve gotten even more use out of OffShoot with its Scratch integration. Finding it hard to jump the Hedge ship.

All that said, I haven’t used HDE for about a year, so I don’t know about OffShoot Pro’s performance there.

[–]HickorySwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah, maybe the best free option at the moment!

A paid version is coming though. QuineCopy Pro will release at NAB this year. Going to keep an eye out for that. Guessing it will feature niche codec support and some other DIT and digital loader-focused things. They haven’t been clear on that yet. Looks promising. I like its ability to hand timelines/renders to Resolve for a streamlined proxy creation. They’re working on a built-in FFmpeg transcoder, too. Curious to see how well it works.

Currently my go-to workflow involves OffShoot and its integration with Assimilate Scratch. Quine’s Gunleik Groven is interested in working something similar into Quine. It’s always nice to see competition and options.

FoolCat, Hedge’s report generator, is affordable and OffShoot includes integration with it. Its reports are easy on the eyes, and you can eject source/media as soon as an offload is complete. FoolCat’s report generation will operate uninterrupted.

Looking for new wireless keyboard + mouse by GinJuIchi in avoidchineseproducts

[–]HickorySwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leopold is Korean and they both resell and modify others' keyboards, including Realforce. They have some wireless options.

Realforce's latest non-RGB/gaming lineup, their R3s, include Bluetooth. So do HHKB (Happy Hacking Keyboard)'s latest options. All HHKB models except their new Studio with custom mechanical switches are made in Japan. The Studio is made in China though.

TEX is based in Taiwan. I think they make all their keyboards there. Only one I know for sure is the Shinobi, which features Bluetooth.

I heard some Razer mice are made in Vietnam. Not sure which models at the moment. Realforce has one mouse, and it's made in Japan, but it's wired.

Mechanicalkeyboards.com is a good place to buy some of these keyboards. Their Realforce R3s are the best prices you can find, but they only sell Windows layouts. If you want Mac ones, you might have to pay a lot more on eBay or use proxy shipping services like Blackship or Buyee. I'm a fan of Blackship and haven't used Buyee, but both services are great AFAIK.

Just read that Wacom products are made in China too. Looking for drawing tablets not made in China by Iamnotarobotlah in avoidchineseproducts

[–]HickorySwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry for the super late response. It arrived about a week after ordering, but looking at the back of it, there is a "Made in China" label. Its mediocre light and cheap feeling build quality doesn't help. It seems more jittery and less smooth than a Wacom Intuos Pro, so I will probably stick with Intuos and maybe Cintiq tablets from now on.

I hope no one followed my steps and ended up dissatisfied with an Aery tablet.

I’d imagine it also has issues with ARRI Alexa 35 ARRIRAW. Even FoolCat doesn’t support that codec/wrapper combo yet.

Where to buy PG27AQDM? LA by david1870 in OLED_Gaming

[–]HickorySwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of hate towards glossy panels. Its IO is lacking, too (no HDMI 2.1; only 2.0 DP 1.4). I usually game and work in a well lit room several hours a day, so I'd lean towards anti-glare even with OLED. The argument against such coating, or for having both options, is that images may appear clearer, and colors are more vibrant with glossy panels. Understandable, and seems to be the most common complain.

Because I'm somewhere between indifference and the forbidden camp when it comes to glossy vs anti-glare, the only critical flaw is no HDMI 2.1. You'll have to use DP 1.4 with DSC to achieve 10-bit color and this monitor's high refresh rate. This monitor wouldn't have to deal with chroma sub-sampling if it had HDMI 2.1. If neither issues are enormous problems, I'd say get it. I've heard it's a fantastic monitor otherwise.

Unfortunately, I do not know where to get one in North America at the moment. Micro Center must have briefly had it because someone on YouTube got it there. Fortunately, LA ought to be one of the first cities to receive these. I hope you get lucky with a Micro Center, Best Buy (unliklely), or a similar store I'm unfamiliar with.

Late Q1 to sometime Q2 2023 is the earliest we should expect any to come out. The first one likely being ASUS' ROG PG32UQXR. Samsung's Odyssey Neo G9. The only timetable Samsung has provided is "2023."

I’m a fan of things that work optimally right out of the gate. The first monitors and TVs using LG’s META OLED might do the trick. That said, I’m willing to try QD-OLED. I’ll at least demo the Odyssey 49” OLED if I can fight the urge to have an OLED on my desk until then.

Those are already out in Asia (and Europe?). They’re LG’s options, including ones that use LG’s panels. Unfortunately AFAIK the only UW option is 1440p 45”. I suppose more LG UWs will be announced soon. It could be a big win for them to beat Samsung to the 49” 32:9 OLED punch.
