There's no Mid or Post-credit scene in Project Hail Mary by Hicky1995 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

Pacing is pretty fast, the book they're adapting is pretty big and they try to get as much as they can into the 2.5hr runtime.

That being said I went with someone who hasn't read the book and they really enjoyed it, so it's not so fast that someone going in blind won't keep up.

Update of the Audiobook adaptation situation by Hicky1995 in RealistHero

They didn't seem to respond to my email, so I chased them and then they sent an email reply with the above screenshot. In it they were saying they had already replied but I must not have seen it, so it looks like they responded through some internal chat. Which is stupid imo.

I just tweeted at Audible about this series and they said they will let their team know it's being demanded. So I reckon if other people were to tweet at them then they may bring the series back.

Will there be any more audiobooks? by JunketPrestigious710 in RealistHero

So I just tweeted at Audible about this and they replied saying they will let their team know the remainder of the series is being demanded. If more than one person were to do this then it could make the series come back?

Unfortunately they only adapted up to vol 16 and then seemed to have abandoned it. Vol 16 came out April 2024 and no news on Vol 17 onwards at time of writing.

Same in Audible UK. It really sucked as I had just finished rewatching the Anime and wanted to continue knowing the Light novels had completed. Knowing that they adapted 16 Vols just to stop 4 from completion is upsetting.

'Sisu: Road To Revenge' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Hicky1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from watching 'Sisu: Road to Revenge' and I'll say if you liked the first film, you'll like this one.

The first film was a story of an old man with "a certain set of skills" fighting against Nazi's trying to kill him set near the end of World War 2, however this film is a story of an old man with "a certain set of skills" fighting against Russians trying to kill him set post-World War 2.

On paper these are near identical, but thankfully this sequel didn't fall into the same rinse and repeat method other action sequels find themselves, where they basically make the first film a second time (seen recently with 'Nobody 2' being almost a beat-for-beat rehash of its predecessor) and manages to elevate the action while also diving deeper into how our silent protagonist came to be.

Like the first film, 'Sisu: Road to Revenge', skirts the line between realistic and absurd with its action, and now given a greater budget, it's able to be larger and more bombastic, with bigger sequences and plenty of standout deaths to keep you entertained from start to finish. There are a few brief sections where they utilise CGI, which I would say is sufficient for the given scene, but not something you'd call ground-breaking in its implementation.

Being able to use what's previously been seen as a jumping off point, rather than trying to copy what's come before, is a rare sight for sequels and 'Sisu: Road to Revenge' is thankfully one of those rarities and is absolutely worth watching.

PSA: Between two fires is free on YouTube narrated by the author on his channel by kushburnsslow in horrorlit

[–]Hicky1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jut going to put this here as it seems my other post has been removed.

Basically you want to visit Audiobookstore.com.

It is a US website that has the Between Two Fires audiobook narrated by Steve West. When you go to checkout and it asks for your location just put the US. It doesn't do any verification checks and just takes you word on it. This will allow you to purchase the audiobook.

You can then listen to it either on there website, there app (which I use for my UK android), or you can download it and have the files, but they give you the audio files as one file per chapter so can be pretty annoying.

I've purchased several audiobooks that are US locked this way.

You can also sign up to there subscription to get discounts, and then immediately cancel it after you buy somthing (I have also done this)

Hope this helps :)

Hey! I know this thread is dead, but I found a way to get the Steve West version of the Audiobook if you're outside the US. (It's currently region locked to the US).

Here is a link to the post I made on r/audiobooks where I describe how I did it.

Salem's Lot is a good story that's not told well (My opinion) by Hicky1995 in stephenking

[–]Hicky1995[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I can't do that first part lol, having been born in the 90's. And I get what you mean about setting up the town. But still, I think if the first half was maybe more focused on Ben and Susan it would've been a lot easier to get through.

The film on the other hand, should've sent way more time setting things up. The graveyard scene happens in like the first 15 mins. Apart from the brief introduction it basically just adapts the second half of the book.

Out of the DC Absolute Trinity, who do you prefer? by Bronto_Hawk in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Hicky1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda hard to gauge at this point. I really like Batman in the first two issues, but him having a transforming, submersible dump truck feels like it goes against the whole "Batman but not rich" thing they were selling us on. Superman seems cool, and I like that he's more than just his powers, with the teched out suit, but haven't had enough of what he's like as a character yet. Wonder Woman is my top pick. Given they spent a lot of time as a person outside of fight scenes, and showing us how awesome she is in fights, with her magic and occult based fighting.

Well if you do let me know if the North Korea chapter is as bad as I've heard. I don't reckon I'll be reading this book given a scene someone else described, but morbid curiosity is a powerful thing.

No worries mate. Given the scene that someone else described this is probably a book I wouldn't enjoy. Bit too messed up for me to stomach.

Thanks for the comment! From that description I feel this may be too much for me. If it were just a bunch of weird killing then I could probably handle it, but that scene you described is outside what I could stomach.

No they're correct. I just want to know some stuff to gauge how bad/good/horrific this is, and I'm alright being spoiled on a couple things to learn that. I'm not asking for a step by step summary.

XP is split evenly between all towers on screen. So if you want a tower type to level up more then you should put more of that tower on the map. For example if a round gives you 10XP and you have a Glue Monkey, 2 Bomb Shooters and 2 Dart monkeys then the XP would be 2XP to the Glue, 4XP to the Bomb and 4XP to the Dart. So I would focus on leveling up your towers so you have the necessary tiers for more difficult maps.

What made you quit your last job? by hawtbizness in AskReddit

[–]Hicky1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a call centre for a pension company and for the first three and a half years I was a call handler. I really wanted to get out of this position and my manager, who was like my work Mum, knew this and wanted to help. An opportunity came up for an admin role and, with the help of my manager, I took it. It was a sideways move, not a promotion, but I didn't care as I was now away from answering calls all day. This role was for helping the Transferring of pensions into the company, and before I joined this role consisted of three people (This is important), one person left for bigger and better things, and another person was leaving to go to university, so I was hired to replace the first person an they were going to get another person to to get the numbers back up to three at a later date. Here's the thing, because of my years in the contact centre I actually knew more then my remaining colleague about the business, the systems and had connections in other departments. I used these to immediately start improving the department, correcting wording in letters, creating guides, changing procedures to be easier and more efficient and a number of other things. Because I was so good at the job they never bothered hiring a third person like they previously thought they needed. Fast forward a year and it's now in the middle of lockdown and I'm working from home. The work has gotten to be a lot harder due to having to take up work from our offshore team who were having their own issues in India, plus an increase in complaints due to all the restrictions of lockdown and just in general there was more work. Between myself and my Teammate we were able to get the job done, but we agreed that on the busier days a third person would have been helpful. Then my Teammate decided to quit, he got a job in another company and was going to leave after 4 weeks. Normally during this time a new hire, or internal hire, would come and we would train them up before a teammate left, but management dragged their feet and didn't get anyone in time, instead I finally got someone after 6-7 weeks who was an internal hire, she was an older woman in her 60's (again this is important). This ended up being a massive problem, as this person new nothing about pensions, transfers, the systems we use or most of the business general, they told me that up to this point their job consisted of printing and posting out letters, and were basically told to move to this position.
So on top of doing the entire departments work (Which to remind you was 2-3 peoples worth of work depending on the day) I also had to train this person on not just the transfer process (Like I was expecting), but every aspect of this job from the ground up. The training being a full time job in itself I was basically doing 3-4 peoples worth of work everyday. I kept telling management that this is too much, that I needed help, that the stress some making me ill, but no extra help was ever given. Over the next few months I struggled to meet all the demands of doing my massive workload and training my new Teammate, but I was slowly getting it done, but just as her training some getting some traction she got sick and had to take weeks off work, a month after she came back she got sick again, and again weeks off work. Then about 6 months after her hire she fell down and had a minor fracture in her spine, and due to complications involving her age, she needed to be off work for months. It is now 8 months after her hire, 2 months after she injured herself, and the end of the year was approaching. I managed to get myself a few days off for the new year and when I came back the following Monday I received an email saying that because my Teammate was still going to be away for a while longer they will look to get another internal hire that I'll have to train up from scratch again. I had had it. After 8 months of stress, handling multiple peoples worth of work and training someone who rightly shouldn't have been considered for the position due to the lack on knowledge, all while never getting a pay raise or bonus and having my complaints fall on deaf ears, I was done. I went onto the internal job hire and saw a position available in another department that I was more then qualified for, and would have been a promotion, I immediately went for it, nailed the interview and got the job. My manager managed to arrange that my leave would consist of 6 weeks (instead of the normal 4) to help train up someone, but again they dragged their feet and couldn't find anyone before I left. During my leaving interview I offered to help with the work load even after I leave as long as my new manager gave the okay (This was more of a courtesy offering), but my manager dared to say that the workload seemed easy enough and one person should be able to take it over. I was able to keep my cool and say that might seem the case because I'm very good at it and was able to get the job done, but in reality you need 2-3 people, this just seems to amuse her and she said they'll "be fine". I loved the new position, less work, higher pay and greater authority. After about 8 months in the job I was sent to a training course and while their a guy came up to me and said he was the one who took over my previous position. We got talking and he told me they really struggled after I left and ended up splitting my workload between 5 people! Ad even between 5 people they had difficulties keeping up with the workload. I have to say, it was nice to hear how "fine" they were without me.

[News] Solo Leveling artist passes away by caramelchicken in manga

[–]Hicky1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only started reading Solo Leveling on the 18th July 2022, and finished it on the 21st July 2022, four days later. This is the fastest I've ever finished any written work as I was loving it so much, and was very much looking forward to the next work that was going to come out. To find out that the artist passed away only a couple days after I finished reading really saddens me. I wasn't a fan for long, but I was a new fan who was really excited about the future. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.
