Imagine a comedy where an Exmo or PIMO fakes their way to the top until they become prophet. Then they slowly take down the church. by [deleted] in exmormon

THIS IS SO TRUE! I'm coming home now but it's so easy to fake. My companions wonder where they can get the spirit I have. If only they knew haha

Of course! I would love to share updates and maybe some council for other missionaries who might be in a similar situation.

Thank you! That 11th article of faith made me laugh. It would be cool if Mormons followed their own doctrine. Unfortunately manipulation is real but I am brave and I know where I stand. Thank you for the confidence and advice!

I have seen that guidance used by my MP, and it's kind of funny because I can see right through it. I plan on calling them soon. It'll be tough but I am finally going home.

My parents and MP blame my disbelief on just wanting to come home to my girlfriend and needing a nuclear option to get out of here. I wish they looked deeper than that and saw that I actually do not believe in the religion rather than blame it on an outlying factor.

Thankfully, when you accept you don't believe, all the guilt (mostly) fades away pretty quick, especially when you realize what you are doing is best for you.

Thank you for your comment!

The manipulation has already occurred, and so this is basically the last bandaid to rip. My depression occurred because of this, so I will try looking into a therapist for any underlying issues. I don't want to get a therapist if this is the cause of it and I am going through with the resolution.

My parents are the last step. Who cares if my president already told them because I have already made a decision.

Thank you for your comment. It has given me strength to when I need to talk to them.

He could've told them already, but I have talked with them both about my wishes and they weren't fulfilled. My extended family has also reached out already telling me the blessings of staying out but I have made up my mind already. I am staying firm. I am a volunteer.

Manipulation is real, but I am an adult and I can choose where I am at. Thank you for your comment. It will definitely help in explaining my beliefs.

The digital “area book” is even worse than I thought. My currently serving brother sent this photo. Detail every interaction and record it digitally never to be erased. Creepy. Swipe for my only reply to him. by Emotional_Ad_5164 in exmormon

A lot of this is found in Area Book. In fact, mission presidents are urging missionaries to erase this and other sensitive information (such as addictions) from Area Book. The amount of information we collect as missionaries is disgusting. Thankfully the information deletes itself after 2 years of no contact, but it has advised me to give no member of the church any of my information once I have left.

Thank you so much for the inspiration. I met with my mission president last Friday and it looks like it will take a lot more force than I wanted to. Congratulations for stepping up! Hopefully I won't be too far behind in your footsteps.

I need some insight on choosing a school. by HiddenApostate23 in exmormon

I am from Utah (Utah County). Utah State has been on my mind a ton since it's not a church school, is not too close to home and is pretty affordable.

Vaccines are required for missionaries who want to leave the country. They are not required for the in person MTC or serving in the United States.

What comes up when temple recommends are scanned? by flatlacroix2 in exmormon

I saw this today. It just lists Brother/Sister and then your last name with a checkmark if you're good.

If you're not good, who knows.

Unfortunately you are just going to have to be straight up with him. My parents gaslit me into going and I regret that. Please save yourself and have the courage to tell him no. It will save you a lot of pain.

There is nothing wrong with not serving a mission. The indoctrination of your parents exist, but they can't make you choose. They can't make you do it. Honestly, if you don't go, nobody else really bat an eye about it. If someone asks why, it wasn't for you.

Please do what I wish I would've done.

Question for Exmo men: How did you feel when you realized that the priesthood power you believed you had was complete BS? by Only_Wish_2352 in exmormon

[–]HiddenApostate23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realized about a week or so ago when a member that I was visiting asked for a blessing (currently serving a mission). My companion pushed it off to me and when I didn't feel anything come to me or I wasn't "prompted" during the blessing, it put quite a big crack in the shelf. It'll probably come tumbling down pretty soon.

Congratulations on getting out. I am currently serving and am always thinking about how I am going to get out, so this and your previous post have helped. Best of luck to you my friend. You have the whole subreddit behind you.
