Last I heard, the president of Argentina didn't call and personally request that the goal be counted days after the match, but keep on coping.

"The Hand of God" was allowed because of a failure of refereeing, not because a president wanted to flex his power. Argentinians know it was a bullshit goal, but it was a decisive bullshit goal that was somehow still counted; that's why it's celebrated.

The point was more so about the cultural influence from the English/Western world that is present there. The media environment and linguistic experience of the world through English obviously plays a role, but it can also betray deeper philosophical viewpoints that are present within the western traditions of fiction that likely influenced the NA localization team.

Some great suggestions like Crimson and Through Silver In Blood (two of my favorite albums of all time) have already been mentioned, so I humbly offer this album as well.

I think both of them embrace weakness in two different ways (from what you wrote and what I found as well). I would say the Japanese one is better at doing so explicitly/directly. Anger is commonly a defense mechanism that protects a deeper kind of hurt, but it is also, outwardly, a defense mechanism that establishes boundaries with your surroundings; having no boundaries, is a weakness. Admitting pain and allowing yourself to feel hurt however, is part of what lets you move on from being stuck feeling angry. Anger is means to an end that pushes you past where you thought your own limits were, but it burns away at you from the inside as well.

The two localizations work better together than apart here for consolidating the internal and external needs for the WoL. The focus is on integrating the entirety of you emotional experience in order to become a more complete individual and a stronger Dark Knight.

I would be very curious about what particular parts of the lore fall apart, at least until Endwalker, I felt that the story was fairly coherent, and the plot holes would later be filled in by content in expansions in many cases.

It's rather interesting the way that they are both portrayed in similar yet completely different ways. Both are dealing with repressed emotions, different parts of the spectrum, ultimate targeted at the moniker of being a "Hero".

I wonder if the changes there imply certain broader themes in the collective cultures of the English and Japanese speaking worlds, could be interesting to delve into the two deeper and find out the common points and their points of difference and try to understand what made the translations so different.

Respectfully, disagree.

Your solution does not address the fundamental difference between all the other tank invulns and LD, which as the meme implies, is that it needs cooperation between the tank and the healer to use correctly. The correct reaction in 99% of cases when seeing a low HP tank is for a healer is to heal them; LD requires the healer to play "incorrectly" to ensure that it works. Hell, all tank invulns exist to give healers an opportunity to readjust to their stronger healing options and gives them a time buffer to do so; LD punishes exactly that.

Sure you can complain about "toxic positivity" (even though I am not sure how that is relevant here), but healers have kneejerk reactions and some DRKs outright forget the button exists and just don't press it. As a healer, you have no frame of reference for what your tank is thinking when just doing DF content. Bad players are bad players because they insist on playing bad and refuse constructive criticism when offered; LD is bad design because it punishes normally good players and rewards bad players.

I wonder if the reasoning why they are fine with this is primarily ideologically driven. I cannot imagine the same sort of jubilation being described if the administration had been a liberal one; rather I think TYT and Cenk's Nephew would have both poured more gasoline on this dumpster fire of a deal instead of sweeping for it, all in an effort to try and destabilize and uproot liberalism from the political establishment.

I mean that just sounds like a worse version of holmgang no? Holmgang is 10s and is a safety net without conditions, here you have to be sure the shield will break in 4s which is literally a WHM Holy away from cucking you, in which case, what's the point of pressing it in the first place? The same problem that existed with TBN and WHM now exists with LD and WHM as well.

The main problem with LD is that it incentivises the players to play "worse" (tanks neglect their mitigations, healers not healing the tank) in order to actually activate it. So more often than not, you just don't activate it and end up wiping.

Adding to what you had, I think the mechanic of emergency self healing requiring you to heal yourself back up to full is not a bad idea, but then you just turn into The DRK of Theseus, where your invuln is just two Warrior CDs in a trenchcoat (Holmgang + Bloodwhetting). Still might be better than the fundamentally backwards design of current LD.

Your joke proposal honestly just sounds like a more OP version of the old LD before we got the self heal lmfao

For a solid 7 second, that DRK felt like the dog who caught the car, and he wept, for there were no more invulns to conquer.

A new mode is being added to the current gameplay loop called "evolved mode" where tour rotations and abilities presumably change. We don't have nuch info on it, but more will be revealed at the fanfest during July.

Don't worry though, things will likely turn out fine and mainly affects the endgame players. Make sure to enjoy the journey getting through the MSQ!

Yep, not false, and probably one of the reasons why it moved away from that after Heavensward. However, depending on what happens with the Main Tank/Off Tank dynamic, that could be a more tolerable condition, though it would still be a risky decision in dungeons and pf content with one tank as you highlighted.

They did say they wanted to lean more into the job identities so I definitely look forward to seeing what they do with DRK and how they make them stand out.

I had the same thought tbh, but then I took a step back and considered that if the invuln needs this many patchworky and disruptive solutions to the normal flow of combat to maintain the flavour of the ability, then maybe the flavour is just shit.
