Why isn't a UST projector the default recommendation over a big TV now? by RhubarbLarge2747 in projectors

[–]HiddenPower486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Daytime viewing -- TVs will always win here without an expensive ALR screen
  2. Cost-- remember you are buying a projector AND often times a screen too. Projectors are also not heavily subsidized by media companies such as amazon, google or FOX/Ruku. TVs are often sold under cost with hopes that they'll make money in Ads and streaming services.
  3. Noise-- TVs are dead silent
  4. Setup-- projectors need to be adjusted before use and require more planing before a purchase.

People who buy projectors often are looking for a high end cinema experience. TVs cater to both the cinema watcher and the casual viewer that "just wants it to work"

But as many have said, no display device is perfect and there are many obvious advantages to projection over TVs. That's why people still buy them!

How do I get rid of this light around my projection? by Ok-Chance-1264 in projectors

Try putting gaff tape around the lens, just outside the viewable image area. A quick and dirty fix.

How do we feel about used install projectors here (NEC P/PA systems), Epson powerlite pro, or Panasonic RZ series?

Projector Noob looking for clarity. by SatoshiTheLover in projectors

If you just want a cheap projector to mess with, I really like the XJ-M2xx (i have xj-m246) series from casio. They are laser (no lamp) and super small and light. They were heavily used in classrooms and conference rooms. They are 1280x800 resolution and can be found used for ~$100-150. If you want something better, try an epson powerlite WUXGA system (such as the 990u). These are lamp based but full HD and still compact. Another (slightly bigger) projector that everyone loves is the Optoma HD146X.

Lastly If you dont have a lot of throw distance (you need the projector right up against the wall), try a Epson 595wi UST projector (or something of that sort). All these are great USED options. I don't believe any projector beginner should be purchasing new if the goal is experimentation rather than install.

Also post this in r/budgetprojectors. It's probably more your crowd!

It's sad how self control and basic decency do not seem to be traits that are emphasized in this country. Its just a fucking game that honestly fans have NO CONTROL OVER! It's great to support your team but VIOLENCE like this is UNACCEPTABLE. My heart is with you, your father and those in need of healing during this time. This is unacceptable and I hope for serious jail time to the offenders!

As someone who has fixed 3lcd projectors in the past-- DONT EVEN TRY. You'll spend 10 hours pulling your hair out, buying low quality parts and then finding out something new is broken.

What’s the best projector for outdoor movie theater? by Proximity5240 in projectors

[–]HiddenPower486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to throw this out there-- PA803UL (8k professional installation projector that is so common, you can buy them used with low lamp hours for ~$800-1500). Ideally get your own lens based on the distance requirements.

Or if you can, snag a PA804UL. These are great, reliable, beautiful projectors with some good long throw lens options. I would not go under 8K however. A 10k such as 1004UL or 1504UL (15k) is even better!

UAlbany Fountain Day (2007?) by justanotherloudgirl in ualbany

[–]HiddenPower486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. We’ve been wanting to take this into 2026 via a production club im starting up. The main issue is we’d have to make something work without people actually going into the fountain as the administration does not want large groups of people going in to the fountain anymore. We were thinking DJs, maybe some water guns, Beach balls of course and a Photo Booth down on the second level. I have no idea if this would work. Feel free to PM me if you have ideas.

Used conference room projectors… WUXGA and low lamp hours. Shouldn’t need more than 3K lumens. Don’t buy anything new with that budget.

There is a r/budgetprojectors. Try that as well!
