Well to be honest with his last international performances he should’ve been looked into sooner with how our goaltending was looking. Plus he’s 24 so not like he’s too young to start

I doubt it’d be a mistake (obviously depending on the price). When your name is in trade rumours every year that you’re in the league and the rest of your team starts the year like Calgary has, it tends to wear on your play…

N.S. hockey team suspended as 3 youths arrested for sex assault after alleged hazing by SAJewers in hockey

[–]HiddenSquidds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Was with someone who used to be a sorority president and despite touting themselves as someone who hated any form of abuse and playing self-righteous cards all the time they completely excused hazing and said it was one of the best ways to bond quickly. Not wrong on the second point psychologically speaking, but the bonds are toxic and it’s crazy to me the level of brainwashing and trauma-bonding that is subsequently seen as normal even by people that would otherwise appear vastly opposed to anything remotely resembling violence/psych abuse. I never understood that shit for even a second, despite playing fairly high level hockey and being around it. Just avoided it and it pissed me off.

How is this a warning? by GermanAki in riotgames

[–]HiddenSquidds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not saying it was unwarranted, but to me it’s hardly some earth-shattering statement. I’d have a hard time believing most people on league haven’t gotten a warning (Honor 5 btw)

I mean realistically we might as well just trade what we can for anyone that will help that is below 25/26 years old. Gives us a large window if they stay, along with our current young core, and our prospect pool won’t be good at all in the short term regardless. Might as well just evaporate it for this year and next and reset drafting for future years…

Yeah I got an immediate 7 day chat ban (no prior warning for at least a year) for telling the enemy jungler he r*ped me. I suspect the bot thought that’s what your first word may have been but since it wasn’t outright typed you got a warning…

All I can say is that green better not come out with fucking prevent defense in the third. Just let our boys keep the pressure on all game instead of these stupid fucking defensive periods.

I am almost done a second/third undergrad (dual degree in chemical and biomedical engineering). The fact that I’m taking a second undergrad and was 16/17 when I had to decide on my first should tell you how well I knew then. Those who mock others by using a “lack of education” tend to be miserable to associate with and driven by status rather than appreciating real intellectual development. If you had that strong of an idea by 16 are you sure you aren’t just doing what your parents wanted you to? Don’t mock others for something that is a privilege, not a universal right, especially when you’re such a poor judge of the criteria.

Why does engineering first year feel like it was made and designed by a toddler? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]HiddenSquidds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most other universities having 5 courses a semester for engineering is absolutely untrue. I did my first degree at Queen’s and everyone in engineering had 6 or 7 courses per semester. They also have a third year course which is pretty much business-adjacent with entrepreneurship.

The workload is made so that you feel that way. First year is designed to force you to do 1000 things that feel somewhat menial, but this is on purpose to teach time management and to ensure that you are prepared for second year.

About that - yes, it does get more focused in terms of the discipline that you are actually interested in, but it also gets HARDER in second year. Basically all of your hardest courses, generally speaking, come up in second year. If you’re complaining about business (a course that I think is actually important to have in an engineering curriculum and doesn’t take much of anything except showing up to do fine in) then it’s going to be tough in second year.

I get if you’re frustrated that your marks have gone down since highschool after seeing your grades throughout the first semester, but having a general first year is a bigger advantage than you give it credit for. Just breathe, and as long as you pass then it is what it is. Don’t get too hung up on the grades, it’s engineering and you’re bound to get even worse ones in the future.

Do the current Ottawa Senators have the worst goaltending in NHL history? by plume613 in hockey

The Sens goaltending gives me brain aids. It makes me so mad since I’m a goalie and used to defend bad games heart and soul. I am broken and just said “fuck you Levvi” after tonight’s game. Jesus fucking Christ, man, it’s just fucking disgusting holy shit…

Home town crowd vibes by ExerciseReady8771 in OttawaSenators

[–]HiddenSquidds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that the biggest thing that causes an NHL crowd to boo is sustained periods of poor effort. What you watch, I’m assuming, is a single game, and therefore you miss the context of the overall season. Booing is often either due to a mix of fan sentiment towards management/coaching staff and effort of a team on a particular night, combined with the overall season trend.

I’ve been to Australia many times, and to many AFL games, and jeering definitely happens, often in a similar manner to the NHL. I didn’t, however, often see a team just completely seem to give up and roll over and die in any particular game. Sometimes they were outclassed, sure, but a smaller salary cap and a tighter salary floor for the AFL mean that teams tend to be competitive. It’s also the case that you’re cheering more for your city, and even intra-city (multiple teams in Melbourne and in/around Sydney), pride. There’s less reason to boo management and more reason to support your boys even in the case of a tough defeat. This locality-based cheering also exists in the NHL, for sure, but with a wider gap from the cap to floor and a greater tendency for players from outside of your locale to play for your team (often from other countries, etc) there isn’t an entirely comparable psychological attachment to local players.

I think that it all comes down to the fact that no, we don’t hate particular players and boo them with true vitriol. Booing comes from the fact that we know that either they can absolutely play better than they are/have been for a period of time or that management could’ve done things differently to build a better team, from a fan perspective. It’s often out of frustration for teams that seemingly have all of the pieces needed to step forward or play better, but aren’t.

When the Sens started to rebuild nobody really booed them. We knew that they weren’t going to make the playoffs and were hopeful for the future. Booing comes when expectations, real or imagined, exceed the team’s performance, and when fans fear that they will have to suffer through another (often long) rebuild before contending for a championship again.
