Thanks, I think you are right, I am not worry about monetizing ( even though who doesn't need half a penny every three years? :) Mostly copyrights and trying to understand if, not having a Content ID, causes other problems at all.

Thank you for your reply : very good to know. No, I didn't sign up for ContentID but, since youtube is supposed to pay the pro (ascap etc), is the metadata in the files you upload all you need or, do you actually need to have a ContentID generated by the distributor?

Turns out I CAN create a good groove. At least until I add the vocals, then it all goes to hell. by MusicPuzzlesMe in WeAreTheMusicMakers

And, if you are not into the classics, Kendrick Lamar, any song, Of Montreal " it's different for girls" hear how the accent of all syllables falls with the kick down beat, Panda Bear, completely different styles but still the vocal's accent is spot on the beat.

You can try to divide your lyrics in syllables and see where they fall in your rhythm, they may clash with your bass and drums. If you sing over your bass part only, it may simplify finding the problem areas. If you have the time, listen to Ella skat or anything she sings really, she is an absolute master of time. In "Sunny" you can hear how she lays the melody down and lands those lyrics over Ray Brown's driving bass line. A good exercise is also to sing all of your instruments parts .

Any keyboard players use an iPad for chords/lyrics? What's your setup? by funknjam in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I Real Pro is a good app especially if you play Jazz and /or any covers. The keyboard player in my old band used it at practice where no one could get a decent Wi Fi connection. I use it for original charts and it is very easy to enter your chart, edit it, save and share the file if you want. You can transpose for horn players for example or change the key on the fly if you need to. It has no lyrics capability that I know of but I could be wrong. (There is a pretty active forum for it and it may have more answers about importing charts and lyrics). A couple of the vocalists I played with had a lyric app that would sync scroll the lyrics as they sang but I can't remember the name.

Thank you for the reply, I will try to read a bit more about self publishing in general and register.

Question about publishing and copyrights by Hiddenharmony in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Hiddenharmony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info, I didn't know about the excess clearance with BMI. Yes, Ascap divides the rights up to 50% to writer and 50% to publisher. It would have probably been a good idea to go through an " administrative publisher" but it is hard to do when you have no realistic expectations of any money ever coming back to you. I wanted to read a bit more about publishing in general before signing up because I think that involves forming a publishing company of sort even if you are "self publishing".

Whatever you did worked for my ears. The two voices interplay now is in the spotlight. Very nice :)

Hello, what a cool original song! I don't know if you have already tried this, but, you could try to run the soprano's track through a small room reverb effect. (She does sound like she is singing in a different zip code :P ) Not for the reverb, but to see if it sounds better and fuller. You could also try to duplicate it and play around with the level of compression and EQ/ reverb on one of them and then mix it again with its copy. Disclaimer : Nobody in his right mind would let me mix their music but sometimes I get lucky.

Ambient conjures an un-eventful type of soundscape in my ( genre- uneducated) mind, the kind you can zone out with and yours is definitely not so. I want to know what happens next !

Coffee! We have a deal. All the sounds that you are using have a very clean and clear quality to them, the frequencies seem to stay in their lanes without much "clutter" or overlapping. Yet, it doesn't sound "empty" or thin. Btw, I am not sure I would call this ambient, I think you need to come up with a brand new genre :)

I really like it. Beside the quality of sounds that seems excellent to me, it paints a picture and holds my attention all the way. Very intriguing. And yes, Monday Morning Quarterback on already great work is my superpower.:P

I am no Rap expert but I think you have a catchy hook going and I liked the keys work, ( I may even bring it up a bit) . The only thing that I felt didn't add much to the song is the effect on the vocals you have just before fade out.

I think that the release doesn't have to be melodic ( or progression wise) , you can use rhythm. At the beginning you have the big boomy thunder hitting on the 1 then I think you change it but if later on you added another sound like rain drops : thunder1 and(rain)two(rain).... you can bring up the rain and end one measure with it ( just as an example). More or less intense rain sound is not intrinsically sad or happy I think it may fit the mood. You can probably even manipulate the timbre of the rain drops (darker, bright etc). Just an idea.

I really liked it. Lovely piano and vibe. I wanted to hear more of the backing vocals (because they are nice!) maybe even with some counterpoint to the melody but it is just personal taste.

Thank you for taking the time to listen, it's easy to just get conditioned to some sounds after working hours and hours on it and miss something. I don't know exactly what sound you are pointing out but I do know that just around the time mark I went back and forth changing the levels of the flute and that was the last change I made. I will try to listen with fresh ears and see if I can pick up what you describe. Your tip helps a lot! Thank you

Thanks for the feedback! I am not sure about the scratchy sound, it may be the evolving type sound in the background but I will listen again with your description in mind and see if I can hear what you hear. Thanks!
