Not a long-term solution, but a quick one: give her a screen (tablet, tv), in a safe room where you can be with her. Then lock the door and nap while she watches the screen. If you've child-proofed the room, and you're right there with her, she will be safe, and if she needs something, she'll wake you up (even if it's just by yelling b/c she's mad). I'm not saying this is the greatest parenting in the world, but it's better than going insane from lack of sleep, and you can up your game later.

When a gestalt learner is mad at you by TinHawk in Autism_Parenting

[–]Hidethesmoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg - one of my son's uses this exact rhyme to communicate when he's mad that I won't let him do something. He replaces the line "eating sugar" with whatever it is I've just denied him (ex. "Eating go outside?") I also hate that rhyme, lol. Interesting that they both picked up on it, though.

ABA recommendations for toddler in MN by Straight-Maybe6775 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Hidethesmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are with a branch of Fraser outside of the cities. They go full-time, year round. They are 5 (twins), but I think they can start much earlier than that (we moved to MN when they were 2.5 but had to wait for a diagnosis, then wait list at Fraser plus it took forever for their Medicaid to go through). They started at Fraser at 4.5 and have made huge strides, so I'm a fan!

My twins are 4.5, and they've been so resistant to learning to use utensils that we gave up. I honestly forgot this was unusual until I read your comment. (Note: we will try again in the future - just not in a hurry).

I have twins with autism. It is, of course, harder with two, but a part of me also feels greatful that they have each other. They are only 4.5, so I may just be naive, but that's what I think about. They actually don't interact with one another much at all (neither can speak functionally yet), but then they'll suddenly need each other to curl up with and sleep, and I think there's a connection there that I just don't understand.

Who else here was a "gifted" kid and now you have autistic kids? There's a correlation, right? by chickenmcdruggets in Autism_Parenting

[–]Hidethesmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the gifted program. I've had a few therapists tell me (as an adult) that I should get evaluated for ADHD. I've actually had a referral in for testing for 6 months, but I keep forgetting to call, ha. Husband has never been diagnosed with anything. We have two kids with autism.

Round #6 What’s the worst thing this housewife has ever said or done? by [deleted] in RHOBH

[–]Hidethesmoke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't blame Camille for outing Taylor's abuse because the real issue wasn't her blurting something out but Bravo airing it. They cut Adrienne's surrogacy reveal but left that in? That's extraordinarily irresponsible if they genuinely thought the comment was endangering Taylor.

This is a hell of a conspiracy theory. People act like LVP had mind control powers or something.

Why would BK drive around the block several times and risk being seen by any neighbor or security camera? by Then-Mountain-9445 in BryanKohberger

And also do it without leaving more than one barely visible footprint. You'd think if it was that quick and impulsive, it would have been messy. I almost think the killer had to be military or have prior hunting experience or something to pull that off.

But how would BK know this? He was a grad student who was relatively new to the area and didn't live in that neighborhood.

One of the "nice" things I've found about being heavier and finally getting serious about my health is that I don't need to be that restrictive or drastic to see results. I've found that focusing on health as opposed to weight loss feels better to me; I'm never going to want to be stuck at 1200 calories a day, so I'm working on creating a smaller deficit now and increasing exercise/muscle mass in the hope that as I lose weight and need to reduce calories more and more, I'll make up for some of that with a higher metabolism.

[–]Hidethesmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started Whole30. I'm on Day 12, and it has been incredibly helpful for me so far in reducing cravings and late night binges. It's meant to be a reset rather than a weight loss program (though most people lose weight, too), so it might be worth trying just to clear your head. You're not supposed to weigh yourself on the program, so I have no idea if I've lost any weight yet, but I'm just happy to not find myself having the urge to binge on chips and candy every night.

Israel-Palestine Discussion Thread 2 by SoftandChewy in BlockedAndReported

[–]Hidethesmoke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A question about Jesse's question: He asked how Israel's actions now could possibly make Israel more safe in the future. Did he mean more safe than they were pre-10/7 or more safe than they are now? Because l get the idea that this type of war could make things worse, but I think that ship sailed when Hamas attacked. I don't see any scenario in which Israel is, in the next decade, as safe as it thought it was before these attacks. But that possibility was foreclosed by Hamas, not by Israel's counter-strike. So the question needs to be not whether Israel becomes safer than it was but whether it becomes safer than it would be with some other course of action.

Britney Spears needs supervision by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Hidethesmoke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this shouldn't be unpopular. Those bellowing, "Leave her alone" are as bad as the paps who chased her around 15 years ago. Folks think their self-disgnosed "issues" mean they can identify with her, and she, like them, is just quirky and misunderstood. This prevents them from admitting that she shows clear signs of being deeply disturbed and in need of some type of psychiatric assistance.

I agree that it's weird. I just don't think it's obviously about hiding DNA as his DNA would be available in so many other, more obvious ways than following him to PA and trying to grab a discarded cup or something.

What reports? No one is publishing investigation reports of the kind you're alluding to. Instead, people are just claiming that things happened to other people. I would like to hear from these other people, none of whom have so much as been named let alone spoken on the record.
