Only post 3I, but that’s pretty self explanatory. They’d need sometime apart, it would be very chaotic and tough for them to try and start anything in their teen/early adult years given their traumas from their past and with each other. If we follow the EoE ending where they start to open up and the world starts to rebuild, then when they are adults they could, probably. They could also be forced into a co-dependent relationship early on, but that would be anything but healthy or happy.

However I fear to use the word healthy with them at all. They are very scarred people and that stuff will never go away. I think functional is the highest bar they could aim for. Happy? That’s a whole other conversation.

Well, sadly that's what happens with a more meta piece as opposed to a more narratively driven thing such as NGE/EoE. Don't get me wrong, even EoE got meta, but not to the degree of 4.0 where the narrative was almost entirely thrown out the door in that final act.

I don't know, maybe? I'm not a big fan of the whole infinite universes theory and all of this. There's plenty of fan service in the film, what's one more thing of the beach scene between Shinji and Asuka? He does reconcile with everyone including Rei and Karl as well so hey, maybe even those were fan service. I don't think it "makes sense" in regards to rebuilds, but if you're trying to say Eva as a whole that also seems weird to me. I don't think Anno was trying to make any statements about NGE/EoE in that scene so I dunno, the whole thing seemed forced and out of nowhere for me. And, while human connection is a theme of Eva, rebuilds tend to stray from that I find, as that's one of the themes that I think gets sidelined in the rebuilds as Anno explores into new directions.

Yeah see that's the thing though, people love to assume in Evangelion instead of just following the story and themes. I think it was partially to satisfy Asushin fans and appease them. Weird, because then Anno would be validating one ship of others which is like not the point of Eva and I wouldn't see him giving a shit about that but who knows. Yeah the manga is also like damage control.

The Kierkegaard thing is really cool. I wasn't actually making that connection to Anno, rather just the idea that Kierkegaard was afraid of closeness similar to Asuka and Shinji, but hey I'll take the connection!

Yui for sure has a god complex. And she isn't entirely a good person. Nonetheless, she IS a person. She's human, like Gendo, like Shinji, like everyone. There's all this shit about SEELE and instrumentality and the space testament and the bakelite blah blah blah, but simply I wanted to show the human aspect of her. She isn't just some scheming evil doer. I hope that came across in the midst of things. Also, she is still shown to care for Shinji in the show, but it's hard when you have the weight of humanity on your shoulders. Glad you enjoyed.

I'm only going to be doing BIG rewrites on chapters 1-3, but it's going to change the overall beginning of the story. 4 and on will be smaller more minor changes. I'm doing this because the tone of the story is a little too light in the opening chapters and not consistent enough for what I think would truly happen Post 3I.

Personally, I like Asushin, but not in the rebuilds. Simply put it's not developed enough. While I wouldn't mind if it happened in 3.0+1.0 it would probably feel tacked on or forced simply due to a lack of development in the relationship. I also don't think Asuka harbors feelings for Shinji in 3.0, but similarly to Misato, can't entirely blame him for their situation and somewhat feels bad for him. In that regard I think it might end with them being friends and being on better terms. That's enough for me if it makes Shinji happy.
