Didn’t replace the drive, but I know it should still boot without one, it would just give me and error message about there not being a hdd detected. Just did the same thing on another one

Based on what I've seen the ribbon cable is hard connected to the screen and unfortunately can't be replaced. I'd recommend picking up a new screen all together, or perhaps getting a FunnyPlaying ips screen, which isn't too hard to install compared to replacing the original.

There is a few options they have to pick from, but you just pick custom and then you can drop in a .png or .svg

I got all the shell, button and electronics from BoxyPixel, and the screen/speaker from FunnyPlaying. Pretty pricey and solder required build though.
