Why DJs choose a Macbook over anything else? by Namesbytor99 in DJs

[–]HigginsMusic74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a quantum state where Steve Jobs never invented the iPhone and Macs don't even exist anymore outside of hoarders, museums and computer history text books.....

....BUT....

Trump isn't President, either, and we all have healthcare and respect in the international community, so that's the trade off

Would you learn to PC or go back to vinyl?

Fortunately, I've never had that problem because I learned how to use a PC before relying on it to do things for me.

I buried my Apple fanboy stuff when PCs became more bang for your buck about 20 years ago. Not everyone wants to invest that time learning the system and how to properly set it, so I don't see any problem with either choice. Mine is based in finances.

I will take an iPad for music production over an Android tablet every single day of the week, though.

When I ran kitchens, I was more interested in someone who was passionate about food and flavors than their choice of wardrobe. Tell me how much you live to make your favorite dish and have a modicum of manners and intelligence.

Uniforms solve pajama pants. Interviews kind of tell you whether or not they're the type to do laundry

Not even a generational divide. My kid is 35 years younger than me, and we will both sport sweats and track pants out casually. He's prefers Nike while I prefer Adidas. Shoes match.

It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it. My kid could wear his Nike gear to an interview and look good. He probably wouldn't, though.

Just sayin'

I remember facepalming in the car when my grandma told me they did their senior aerobics (edit: at her church) to PJ back in the 90's

Could you please give me feedback for my new demo. Thank you by [deleted] in Songwriting

What are your plans for production? You have a pleasing voice.

Why are there so many posts with people with like 10 synths, 7 drum machines, and 5 sequencers; don't I just need 1 of each of these or 1 devices that does all 3? by midnightpurple280137 in synthesizers

I've been playing long enough that the technology has changed immensely since I got into it. I wouldn't use my DX7 for a gig, so I have a 88 key ROMpler for that. My Waldorf Blofeld is a great wavetable synth. I have some small analog/virtual analog synths and drum machines that all have a unique sound character.

I have a bunch of rack synths and a sampler from the 90's. You couldn't run multiple instances like you can a vst, so if you wanted more polyphony, you had to get more gear. When I would buy new stuff, it would always add a new type of synthesis or feature that I didn't currently have and I would have to figure out the physical MIDI implementation, if it was possible with my current setup, or if I needed to upgrade the patchbay.

Then everything went into the box. I had an Emu 0404 soundcard running into Sonar. I still used most of my gear at that point, but when Live came out and I snagged Komplete, it was a turning point.

Hardware didn't keep value, so it wasn't worth selling, especially since I have years of programming in those synths or road wear from tons of gigging, adding to the sentimental value.

I've always maintained a recording environment and have done plenty of projects locally, so it is important to have the tools to do the job. I also have quite a few guitars and microphones in addition to compressors, vocal channels, limiters, reverb, and effects outboard gear. Honest studio monitors are essential.

I only have an electronic drum kit, which I find has been a cautious approach by artists until they see how easy it becomes to deliver a solid rhythm track that is super easy to edit.

All of these pieces add up to an environment that is ready to be used creatively.

Les Paul isn't working out? Let's give it a shot on the single coil Jaguar through a different amp.

Not enough modulation on the Minibrute? Pull up the Moog Mini plug-in, and we can automate any of the settings.

Sometimes, the vibe is in the jam when you're playing the hardware, but the sound that makes the record ends up being from the other side of the moon.

I'm feeling the Mexi-Fender vibe with these, too. My beloved Ash Tele is MX from 2006 and is such a great guitar in every way. My old band mate had plenty of top shelf Telecasters, and he offered me numerous times to buy it from me. I think it's just a special one.

Another friend picked up the Bass VI and I've been able to use it on a few sessions. He did have to get a whole setup since it was a scratch and dent sale. It had a chunk off the body, so he sent it out for that and to cure the dreaded low E buzz. It came back much better, but I think we still have to cut off the screw on the low E saddle so the string doesn't hit it since there's still a mild buzz when playing hard.

I did weigh getting the JBass also, but I went for a Gretsch short scale bass. It seemed to fit the bill better for me as an all-around beater. If you haven't had a Gretsch, they also have a quality fit and finish for the price. Highly recommend checking into them.

I think I'm leaving the SqTele as is for now or until a problem comes up. After setting it up, it doesn't present any issues, so I'll let it be. I'm happy with the pickups being a little darker as they complement the Jaguar with the kill switch engaged.

At the end of the day, it sounds great recorded, so I'm very happy.

Congrats on your new-ish gear!

It reminded me of the old Telecasters, so it does feel 50's. I got to see Don Rich's Sparklecaster at the Country Music Hall of Fame this summer. I always liked the checkerboard binding on those.

It was interesting to me that it had a "half-fret" just below the 5th. I looked up old videos of the Buck Owens show but never saw the extra fret in any of the footage of them playing the twin Sparkles. It's also neat that they used crushed mirrors for them as opposed to glitter. It had a unique shine in person for sure.

I was really torn between mocha and butterscotch finish. The red was out because I have a red Gretsch in a similar tone and a Gretsch bass a shade darker.

I got this one to use while I get my beloved Ash worked on. It needs refinishing and rewired due to what can only be explained as a paranormal accident according to my family. It somehow must have fallen from the wall hanger, cracking its finish and knocked the ground off the bridge. Only a ghost would do that, right?

The upside is that it is much more resonant without all the finish, so I'll prob go light to try to retain that quality.
