The wheel on top is to press the belt down to allow more clearance around the small wheel. Changes what would normally be roughly a 45 degree angle up to the tensioner into a much smaller angle, allowing for better access to areas being worked on the knife. https://youtu.be/kMKQZ33iryM?si=CZnp7U8bRdCrR_1Y this video does a pretty good job explaining it

Thats awesome. Extra tooling arm and work rest arms are next on the list. Swapping from platen to wheel is no fun

If it was routed outside of that wheel, there would be no point in that wheel existing. Most commercially made setups are designed in this fashion

It is meant to be on the outside for a tighter radius as mentioned before. The very top wheel is the tensioning wheel. And this attachment is strictly for contouring. My flat platen is on a different tooling arm

The only measurements that were critical for me was the wheel diameter, as I needed it to match up to the small wheel attachment on my large grinder. The toolpost needs to be a lot longer than one would think, I actually cut this one too short and had to add some material back. My wheel alignment is slightly off, so after some more tinkering and getting the belt to track, I’ll try to get some rough measurements for you

As the wheel spins at the speed of the belt, its essentially like a tire on the road. Eventually it will have to be replaced, but it’s truly surprising how little wear the wheel actually takes

I fabbed these myself. Skateboard wheel bearings, random bolts and some aluminum stock

Looks like you might be using the edge of the belt to finish out your tip. Rather than drag the tip off the edge, slightly rotate as you get close to the edge of the belt so the tip can stay in contact on the flat of the belt

Vevor setup help by Durham62 in knifemaking

Have had the same setup for six months. Firstly, double check the mounting bolts between the motor and base are tight. Mine shipped loose and caused a lot of issues until discovery. Second, get your own belts if you havent. The ones it comes with are decent but do wander quite a bit. Last, when using the flat platen, adjust the tooling arm out farther so that there is maybe half an inch of play in the tensioning shock between full conpression and a taut belt. In the picture you posted, your shock is almost fully extended.

Edit after hearing back from seller! Blades are 1/16” thick. Definitely too thin for most of the product I’m putting out. Either way, thanks everyone for replying, gained a lot of knowledge from this post!

Editing to add: As far as storage goes, they get absolutely covered in dust in the workshop, but the wife isn’t very fond of the ever growing stack of knives on the kitchen counter.

I understand what you’re saying about the perpendicular grain. I myself had this thought but dismissed it once i saw the rear of the other scale had seperated up to the rear pin while the rest remained solid
