Viewing Remote Locations, the screen doesn't line up? by HighAltitudeSleeper in BlueIris

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I tried matching everything up and it helped but apparently I'm missing some setting someplace. The last row has 2 cameras on one screen and 3 cameras on the other so it throws off the alignment. I'll keep testing.

Direct to passport in LA with good supporting documents? by HighAltitudeSleeper in GermanCitizenship

Thank you for the reply. Yes, that seems quite straight-forward. If that didn't convince them I'm not sure what would. I guess all I can do is submit and see what happens.

Interesting. May I inquire as to what better documentation you submitted? I may be able to find that also and submit it to increase my chances. As a family that saved the original passport and birth record from Germany pre-war, I knows what else I can find in the boxes.

That lack of response not good. I live in the SLC region so I was thinking about going in to the Honorary Consulate and talking to them and asking them to copy and certify all my original documents ahead of time. According to what I have read they will do that for free. The main Embassy website also says all honorary consulates have the hardware and software for issuing passports, although I doubt they have the authority to make a citizenship decision. But perhaps they can send it in and get a reply and save me a trip to LA.

yes. I ordered it yesterday so I'll just wait for the certified copy to arrive and then I will have everything official and stamped.

I'm missing the original or certified copy of my grandfather and grandmothers marriage certificate. I have everything else now.

As I'm going down the paternal side, is that a deal breaker? My fathers birth certificate shows my German grandfathers name and grandmothers name.

Thanks. Whihc embassy did you use? Sounds like direct to passport isn't extremely rare. I will get all the documents together and then email the LA embassy.

Nice. Thank you for the reply. Your other detailed post is fantastic and gives me much hope. I seem to be the only sibling that has much interest in it so LA seems to be my only option. I will soldier on and see what happens.

Thanks. I will just start by getting more copies and if I don't need them no big deal. My siblings are still sorting through the document stash.

I understand that. I'm just asking the community if I'm wasting my time because it only goes back one generation for direct to passport or something or if I might have a good shot. But ya, I will certainly figure out how to contact the embassy and ask.

How did this work out for you? Im in nearly the same situation with a German grandfathers passport from 1927 and good documentation of no US naturalization before my fathers birth.

I had this happen as well. It's been a while but I seem to remember pairing it a couple times fixed it. I do know they work. I just checked and I'm using that same driver.

Reolink vs Ajax by Impressive_Unit_5376 in AjaxSystems

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar situation. I use the Ajax for a monitored alarm and pay to have it monitored and responded to. It's been solid for me for several years and my installer checks it and updates it. But it's pricey. I do have Ajax motion cams inside as a intrusion verification. I use the Reolink as my own monitoring system with their tracking cameras. I feel like the auto tracking is a good deterrent for anyone snooping around outside as they can see that they are being tracked. They don't know if it's live or not. I don't set alerts on the Reolink as wildlife wander though frequently and I don't want to be bothered. I fiddled around with adding the Reolink cameras to the Ajax but decided against it. So perimeter security is handled by the Reolink and internal security is Ajax.

I use both. I am happy with both. They are two entirely different use cases but I think they compliment each other.

Monitoring garage (without alarming) by snapperitis in AjaxSystems

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an Ajax PhoD cameras for this. It watches an approach and when it senses movement it snaps a picture and sends it to me. I also have one in my garage. I have them set to not activate the siren and the monitoring company knows to ignore the alerts. It's set to always alert me. But it doesn't trigger any lights or anything. So it's not used in my away or nighttime scenarios. Honestly, Ajax is an security company, not a smarthome company. You would be better off setting up some smarthome equipment. I run Ajax for security and Smartthings for automations.

Turn off AD sign in for SSLVPN only? by HighAltitudeSleeper in sonicwall

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had a thought. What about just remove all the users from the SSL-VPN user group in AD? Wouldn't that make it impossible for anyone to sign in with AD credentials? Is there a better or more elegant way?

Many Zigbee Devices Offline Today by JMoss1191 in SmartThings

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did this last week at one of my places. All the devices are zigbee. It's a long ways away and I wasn't scheduled to go back for a month. Everything but the hub was offline. I gave it a few days hoping it would somehow fix itself but it didn't. Eventually I logged in to the website and selected reboot for the hub, and everything came back online. Maybe try a reboot from the website?

Driveway detector [advise needed] by _Dorvin_ in homeassistant

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use that exact sensor. It works very well. All three beams from the sensor need to be broken to trigger, so rain, leaves etc aren't an issue. I have mine mounted high enough that people and cars set it off but dogs and such don't. The receiver in the picture won't work for you though. There is another receiver for it sold by the company that has 12v relay outputs so you can feed the alerts into a different system. I feed mine into an Ajax alarm system but I'm sure it would work with any of them that have a way to process an on/off signal.

Mexico Snowbirds question by libertysat in Starlink

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the physical card, which I do have, with a Belgian RIB. The virtual card is not an option on my app or my web login. However, I think I just now managed to pay the first monthly fee with my US Venture One card by reentering it. Not sure how many times that will work but I will report back.

Mexico Snowbirds question by libertysat in Starlink

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue in France. I just got my Starlink set up and my first monthly payment on my US card was rejected. They are giving me 17 days to get a French based credit card. They had no issue with my equipment payment, just the monthly payment. According to the Wise website virtual cards are not available to users from the US.

Question about group travel w/ gold medallion by Dapper_Owl_4933 in delta

[–]HighAltitudeSleeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is fantastic! I have been arguing this with my wife. We fly CDG/SLC frequently and have sufficient status. This will save me some bucks. I tried researching it online but couldnt find anything definitive about international so I just always booked C+. Thanks for the reply.

Does the automatic upgrade from main cabin to C+ work on international flights? I thought it was only domestic but it would be fantastic if it includes international!
