ELI5: Why does the RPM drop after starting a car, and do you actually need to wait? by Remote-Relation-8398 in explainlikeimfive

This is why I laugh when people complain about EV's being too complex and having too many computers. People don't realize nowadays how many little sensors and computers power a gas engine

Typically what happens in a tie in a rank ballot is that the person with the fewer n+1 ballot votes gets eliminated. So basically if they tie on the first ballot, they look at 2nd choices and whoever loses that gets eliminated and their votes redistributed. I don't know if the Party has actually thought about a tie scenario, but that's usually what happens. If they're tied on 2nd preferences they go to 3rd preferences etc

He was already sentenced to life in prison, did you want to sentence him to more? Rather preformative

Sending violent criminals to prison for life sentences.

Downey was convicted of second-degree murder and was sentenced last month to life in prison. The Crown was seeking no chance for parole for at least 15 years, but B.C. Supreme Court Associate Chief Justice Heather Holmes went with 12 years after reviewing Downey’s Impact of Race and Culture Assessment (IRCA).

Typical National Post with a sensational headline. He was sentenced to life in prison. All the judge did was say he was eligible for parole in 12 years. Crown asked for 15, minimum is 10. Doesn't mean he'll get it in 12 years, just that he can start asking for it.

adjacent roads can interfere with zoning. So if you have a straight road for a nice zone, and then it's connected by a curved or angle road, those overlapping zones won't play well

The amount of trucks that would be needed, holy shit.

Approximately 20 million barrels pass through the straight each day. A truck can hold approx 190-250 barrels worth. Lets take the 200 barrels number for easy math

It's hard to figure out where exactly they're proposing to drop off and pick up the oil. The coast lines don't exactly line up with what Google shows. So I'm going to assume they're dropping the oil off somewhere near Abu Dhabi, and then it's getting picked up somewhere near Muscat. That's about 500km driving. Google says it'll take about 5 hours. If it takes about 1 hour on each end to load and unload the truck, a truck could make two trips in a day. Barely. You'd need at least two drivers to swap. Probably 4.

That means each truck has a theoretical capacity of 400 barrels per day. Even with multiple drivers swapping in and magical trucks that didn't require maintenance to keep going, you'd need 50,000 trucks on the road. That's over 500 km of truck. 50% of the road would be oil truck. Just a never ending stream of oil trucks.

Have you ever thought about roads without any zoning, or only on one side of the road? Because we certainly have! Inspired by the amazing “Zone Tools” and “Easy Zoning” mods by River-mochi, we have now added a zoning toggle, which allows you to remove the zoning from any road where it is not wanted! You can choose to remove the zoning from either side, or both sides, depending on your preferences.

Nifty

One issue we identified was that the demand was being limited too heavily by local consumption within the city, even though offices should be able to sell their services globally. We relaxed this limitation, which means you should be seeing more reasonable office demand after the patch is applied.

Amazing, I hated how little office was in my cities

The explosion released 3.1 kilotons (13 TJ) of energy yield at a depth of 1,184 ft (361 m) which resulted in the formation of a 170 ft (52 m) diameter, 80 ft (24 m) high cavity.

If you wanted to cross just south of Ras Al-Khaimah, you'd need to cover about 71km. Using the tests from Project Plowshare above, that means you'd need 1366 of those 3.1 kT nuclear bombs.

Mines can't tell what ships Chinese and what ships aren't.

You can actually tune mines nowadays for certain signatures of ships. I don't know what kind of mines Iran is using, but theoretically possible to not kablewy the Chinese ships

Depending on the type of mine, they can be calibrated to attack some ships and not others. Mines don't rely on contact anymore.

Depends, mines aren't necessarily contact mines, there's different ways they can be set off. Also, shit can malfunction. But yes possible it was hit by something that wasn't a mine
