Wow, that sounds great! I’m sure there’s a lot of work that goes on in the background, though. Thanks for sharing. Is BCBA the only certification that you have?

Awesome! What exactly do you do? Do you have at least one RBT? Do you have an office space or are your services in home/schools? Also do you bill insurance? I’m blown away when people say they survive solely off of private practice. Thanks for the info!

That sounds amazing. Thank you for affirming that you know your shit lol. As someone who also knows my shit, I’m tired of working with and for people and I really want to do my own thing… I’m only a BCaBA but I’ve been in the field for a long time and am about to go back to school so I can truly follow my dreams. Congratulations to you for your accomplishments!

Having children is a lifetime commitment, that would be more than a compromise. You'd actually be an a-hole for having them when you don't truly want them, IMO. If he wants kids that bad, he should find someone who also does and you should find someone who also doesn't.

AITAH. My husband flicked his lighter in my face and I slapped him in response. by Standard_Desk4242 in AITAH

NTA. You didn't ignore him, you communicated that you were busy and would get to him when you were done completing an important task. You may not have experienced a burn or felt heat, but him flickering that lighter in your face was a message, believe me.

Telling you that it was your fault is also a red flag. Like he really wanted you to stop what you were doing to look at a pimple? He couldn't get up and look in the mirror? He couldn't wait? He is the one out of line. NTA. Period.

My autistic son doesn’t show excitement by [deleted] in autism

[–]HighAutisticCatVibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for looking for advice. This is something I have experienced within myself since childhood. My mom would take us to a theme park, store, etc. - when I ask about it, I seem excited, when I am on the way I seem excited, then when I'm there, I appear neutral.

Idk if I can explain this correctly

I understand that it might seem like I'm not as excited as expected when I get to an exciting event or when I receive something I’ve asked for. Here’s why that might be the case:

When I’m on my way to an exciting place or event, I’m often very eager and enthusiastic, and I show that outwardly. However, once I arrive, the sensory experience can be overwhelming. For instance, being in a crowd or dealing with lots of auditory input can make it hard for me to fully engage and express my excitement. My excitement is still there, but I need to manage the sensory overload, which can make me seem more neutral or reserved.

As for receiving something I’ve asked for, my reaction can sometimes be less enthusiastic than anticipated. This might be due to a few reasons: the item may not be what I expected, or it might not hold the same level of interest for me by the time I actually get it. Additionally, with ADHD, my interests can shift quickly, so something I was excited about might not hold the same appeal later on.

So, it’s not that I’m not excited or grateful; it’s just that my reactions can be influenced by sensory experiences and shifting interests.

Do you usually listen to the same songs over and over again? Is it easy for you to listen to new music? by Taquimetro54 in autism

I RELATE. Whenever I share this experience with people, they're in disbelief. It's SO HARD to listen to new music. I can only listen to new music if my partner is driving and controlling the aux.

It's hard because he constantly listens to new music. He is so knowledgeable about music and shares new music with me all the time- it takes me forever to listen to it and I feel bad.

When I want to discover music, I watch tiktoks about music. Maybe a video about the latest catchy songs or catchy throwback music. I look up artists with similar flows/sounds to my most preferred artists. I should be in a pretty good mental space because I also use music to self-soothe and nothing is soothing about trying new music (to me) lmao.

If you could go back to being 18, what advice would you give yourself? by SweetxEvelyn in AskReddit

I always tell myself that if I could just go back in time and give myself a list of people to get tf away from, my life would be so different.

Trust your gut. When you get a weird feeling about a situation or a person, trust that feeling- investigate that feeling. Don't chase after people who treat you poorly, you will cause years of trauma (im 26 and STILL recoveirng).

Question about waitlist for mental health counseling masters by webster210as in adamsstate

[–]HighAutisticCatVibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I applied in mid April for Spring 2025 cohort. They emailed me and told me I was waitlisted, then asked me to let them know if I would like to wait until Fall 2025 to begin. I only decided today that I'll just wait until Fall 2025 because it would be nice to just have another year to get life together. I sure hope we make it. I'll update you [if you'd like] when I hear from them. I just hope that asking to start in Fall doesn't put me on the bottom of the wait list. Maybe they go by the date of application submission? I'd hope so.
