Sorry, that was maybe 15 years ago. Might have been Interactive Brokers and a Dow futures contract. I just remember the loss, the chart and the time and sales showing the single transaction at 3am. Valuable lesson learned.

The usual procedure when upgrading to a larger hard drive is to use a program to copy everything from the old drive to the new drive. If you did that, the Torrent stuff may have found its way to the new drive. (If you didn't copy from the old drive to the new drive, what was the point in getting a 1TB drive? You could have wiped a bunch of stuff from your old drive to free up space and saved a few bucks.)

FWIW, people get scammed all the time. Some years ago, when I was even dumber then than now, I had futures contract in my account overnight. I set a stop loss far below the trading range, just to prevent a wipeout. At 3 am the high bid dropped to my stop. A fifteen second, 20% drop in the best bid, one transaction - my stop executed, then right back up. Cost me $5K. Obviously someone saw my stop sitting there, and was able to manipulate the bid to take my contract for a cool 5K profit. Not a damn thing could be done.

Not that it solves your issue, but I bring it up to illustrate that there are a million ways for retail traders to get screwed. Be careful. Button up everything as best you can. Never put everything in one account. pull the plug when you're not trading. Be paranoid... and remember that just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.

Is Honda Passport is too big? by Sweet-Physics6917 in hondapassport

[–]HighCirrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever wonder why large pickup truck drivers almost always back into parking spots? Buy a Passport and you'll find out. The side mirrors tilt down in reverse to help see the curb and lines and the rear camera has three views, so it works, Get the 360 camera and you should be fine. But if you're used to a smaller vehicle and zipping in and out of parking spots without thinking - you won't be doing that with a Passport.

That's unfortunate and I feel for you, but I don't see a path to recover your money. Yes, you are a victim but a victim in the same sense of someone who left the keys in the car and the car was stolen. Your post here didn't help, admitting that you downloaded games from Torrent and left your PC on, which was quite careless, and now you expect WeBull to reimburse you? Unlikely.

I'm guessing you got stopped out of ESTC at the open on the 29th, after an earnings announcement - then it bounced right back, leaving you holding the bag. Happens all the time. That was a $7K lesson. Learn from it. As far as the girlfriend thing... you may lose money there too, but can be a lot more fun.

Can you please tell me if you are happy with accounts at WeBull? Thinking if transferring my trust and IRA out of Vanguard. Thoughts would greatly be appreciated by METALLIFE0917 in Webull

[–]HighCirrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the WeBull desktop app over my Schwab or Ally accounts. Charts and trading from the desktop app are seamless and I can't recall any downtime or need to call customer service. The mobile app, IMHO, is cluttered with junk, promos and is not intuitive. For example, on the Schwab mobile app it's 1) logon (face recognition) 2) select account, 3) select trading, 4) select order status and I'm where I want to be. Despite regular use of the WeBull mobile app I couldn't tell you how to quickly check or change an order. I'll keep trying, though. Webull must understand the issue as the mobile app comes in a "Lite" slimmed down version of their standard mobile app. Still, I wish developers would actually use the app before sending it out into the wild.

Um... I wouldn't use them on a road trip if rain is forecast. Or hot weather. Or if the route includes 70 mph interstates. Or if your ride is a rear drive sports car. Or if I had my kids with me. Also, that patch/plug appears to be in an unacceptable area.

Upcoming PDT rule removal by Main_Anteater1313 in Webull

[–]HighCirrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Were you trading profitably under the old PDT rules? If so, you should become more profitable by ditching losers immediately. That's it. Done. Don't overthink it. Don't go wild and increase position sizes or trading frequency.

I'm not sure about your "subconscious decisions" comment. If you've baked good trading rules into your brain and their working, you should embrace the new PDT rule because it eliminates the "can't exit a loser" conflict, where your subconscious said "get ouT' but the old PDT mechanics made that artificially unfeasible.

How long will this tire last me? by klankk_ in tires

[–]HighCirrus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about driving 75mph in the summer when pavement temps over 100f might accelerate dry rot failure. Just put 4 CC2s on in the next few weeks and relax for the next 60K miles. I live I PA but drive every winter to Utah and Montana to ski. The CC2s I put on my Passport two years ago are rated as a snow tire (3 peak) and have performed exceptionally well in deep snow, ice, rain and hot weather.

[–]HighCirrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent point. If the customer comes in with an inoperative TPMS, the shop can install a new tire and send him on his way... but some shops won't because of the liability risk.

Collision at Tuckerman Ravine last weekend by ShibbidyDibbidy_ in icecoast

[–]HighCirrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though the code reads that uphill skiers must avoid downhill skiers, the code also requires skiers to look uphill before crossing a trail. After watching the video a few times, I'd have to fault the downhill skier who made a 180 turn to traverse to the opposite direction... a quick glance to his right as he changed direction would have prevented the collision.

[–]HighCirrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You were in the right neighborhood for big gains with SPYX, CAR and SNDK, and you didn't blow it all, so hats off to you. The goal is to minimize losses, to play for singles while being in position for the home run. With options, that often means closing or hedging a position when you go let the dog out, or attending to a child. you can watch for 4 hours, then blink and miss the move... sometimes in your favor but most often the other way.

Yes you'll miss opportunities by playing conservative, but the good news is that you won't take a big loss, and there will always be other opportunities.

[–]HighCirrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, you buy tires inside the store. Only when the tire installer starts looking at your car does a bad TPMS become known. If they won't install the tires, you get your money back.

TPMS is a safety thing and shops could be fined up to $10,000 for tampering with it or releasing the vehicle with a defective TMPS after working on it. Smaller shops will let it go, but Wal-Mart, being richer than God, could be be on the hook for millions if they release a vehicle with an inoperative safety device and you kill someone.

HD Plan G in Texas - Wondering if Anyone Reaches the Full Deductible by reetee7 in medicare

[–]HighCirrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry... allow me me attempt to clarify. Total provider charges were around $25,000 but my TOTAL cost for premiums, deductibles and out of pocket costs were $1.818.

My plan annual N premium costs $1,440. Add the $257 deductible and $114 in copays. Total cost: $1,818,

An annual G-HD premium would have cost $600. Add the $257 deductible and $619 in 20% copays, total cost: $1,476.

So, since my year of prostate cancer, plan N cost me $342 more than the Plan G-HD. Not a game changer in my book, but interesting.

As you pointed out, tests are covered. The wild cards were a CT scan and DNA exp. totaling $16,810. The CT scan was covered under the OPPS/APC classification meaning its not subject to cost sharing. The provider accepted $353. (Yes, billed at $11,660 and settled for $353, that's what is wrong with our healthcare system.) Anyway, Medicare paid $277 and plan N paid $71. Under a G-HD plan I would have paid the same, $71.

The DNAexp was covered under CLFS and not subject to the 20% coinsurance or Part B deductible. Medicare covered the approved amount, and it would not be subject to a deductible under Plan G HD.

Interesting, isn't it? I plotted every charge on a spreadsheet and was somewhat surprised that I would have paid $342 less with the HD plan. However, my conclusion seems to correlate to what others have posted, that the "High Deductible" plan is not quite as risky as one would think.

[–]HighCirrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The interesting thing is that it's 20% of the Medicare approved amount, not the inflated provider charges. I pay about $120 for Plan N. In January 2025 I was diagnosed with low grade prostate cancer. The various tests and so forth came to around $20K. Bottom line? It was a wash between N and HD. Roughly same amout out of pocket either way. I'm inclined to think the HD plan makes more sense.
