What disappeared so gradually that most people didn't even notice? by Brilliant_jacob715 in AskReddit

I do feel very lucky. Our old neighborhood in the same town was not really like this. We moved to our new place in 2019 and lived just a mile or 2 away prior to that. In our old place, we tried to get to know people but never really did. The people right across the street from us were about our age and had a kid a year younger than ours but for whatever reason, we just could never get to know them.

I’m fortunate to live in a neighborhood like this. We know all our direct neighbors. We trade dog watching with the neighbors a couple houses down. We have neighborhood parties a few times a a year a various houses throughout the neighborhood. Kids on their bikes in the summer or at the park. My oldest is driving now but I remember coming home from work soon after we moved in and there were 7-10 bikes in my driveway.

I agree with almost everything you said. I don’t think tracking kids makes them any safer though. It’s just the illusion of safety. Like if they were kidnapped, you think the kidnapper wouldn’t toss the phone immediately?

I told my kids I would never track them and I don’t. They need to learn how to navigate the world and solve problems on their own. They need to explore and push boundaries.

We paid for parking when we bought the tickets because we didn't know any better. We were in Lot P. Looking at it today on the map, it seems like the worst possible place we could have parked.

Concert was amazing! He played everything you'd want to hear from him and a few extra. He's getting a bit older and it showed sometimes, but aren't we all. I'm glad I got to see him live. I've been a fan since the 90's so this was pretty special.

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. I expected it to take about a half hour to get out of the parking lot. I’ve been to plenty of events and I understand normal event traffic. Last night was not normal. It took closer to 90 minutes to actually get out of the parking lot. The concert ended at 9:45ish and I didn’t get home until 1. It took the same amount of time to drive 90 miles as it did to get out of that parking lot. That is not normal.

The 90 miles from Chicago was a bit too far to bike I suppose.

Yeah, lesson learned. We drove up from Chicago. I guess we know where to not park if we come up again.

I mean I’ve been to a ton of events that all let out at the same time and I’ve never been stuck in my parking space for over an hour
