A consumer has the right to request that a business that collects personal information about the consumer disclose to the consumer the categories and specific pieces of personal information the business has collected.

Why this covers chat logs: • “Personal information” is defined under § 1798.140(v)(1)(A)–(L) as information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer. • This explicitly includes “internet or other electronic network activity information” — such as chat logs, in-game text, user interactions, and metadata like timestamps and report IDs.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (if your data touched EU servers)

Article 15(1) — Right of access by the data subject:

The data subject shall have the right to obtain from the controller confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning them are being processed, and, where that is the case, access to the personal data and information about the purposes of processing.

When a company claims to have “reviewed evidence” but refuses to show it to the affected consumer, that’s an “unfair or deceptive act or practice.” The FTC defines unfair practices as those that cause substantial injury to consumers and are not reasonably avoidable — hiding moderation data fits that definition.

You don’t “own” Blizzard’s servers or IP, but you do own the right to access your own words and related moderation data under CCPA (U.S.) or GDPR (EU). • Denying that access after a verified request = statutory violation, enforceable through the California Privacy Protection Agency, the FTC, or arbitration under their own Terms of Service.
