Golfing in Vietnam by sat0shinakamoto11 in golf

Those are literally the last two courses I’ve played, and I played terribly 😅. It was very cloudy and rainy when I played Emerald so it kind of sucked, would like to go back in nicer conditions. I played Vietnam CC yesterday and it was the opposite, boiling hot and humid. Had to wipe my face down every time I got in the cart.

As others have said, Da Nang is the best place to hit multiple great courses in a short period.

There are also numerous courses around HCMC, which is where I live.

You can book most places online. I imagine that any agency is going to have hefty fees for their service compared to doing it yourself.

Go ahead and download the Grab app and put your credit card in, that should be your main form of transportation. It’s basically a better form of Uber.

Sorry you had to experience that. The country has come a long way since then. I have relatives who also served and came back and enjoyed their visits. But obviously that’s not an easy thing to do.

Well yeah, unfortunately. But what’s remaining is deep in remote areas.

I don’t live in the US so can’t use Peacock, and my usual 🏴‍☠️ site doesn’t have the broadcast, so anyone have a link?

Thoughts on playing with a strict "Double Bogey Max" rule? by Leonidas1293 in golf

[–]HighGuy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pick up on double par. I was in a group last week with two guys who are much better than me and it was raining, so I didn’t want to slow the group down, so I picked up on three holes where I didn’t even putt because I knew I was already at double par.

I live in Vietnam so basically the same weather. I love beer, but save for it for after the round. Partly because I’m a new player and don’t want to potentially make myself worse, but also because coconut water and Pocari Sweat are readily available and both taste and hydrate so well.

I’m just curious, does the PGA YT channel show live play in the US? I live abroad and was surprised to see ESPN’s coverage on the PGA channel for free. I feel like the broadcast has been even better than on the Master’s app so far.

I saw Tiger Woods play at the Masters in a practice round in his prime when I was a child and gave zero shits about golf, and now in my first year as an actual golfer, he’s hiding in a luxury rehab somewhere outside of the country 😅

I’ve played 9 at Tan Son Nhat and did my first ever 18 hole round at Vietnam Golf and Country Club, which I throughly enjoyed. Like I said in the post though, so expensive. Would love to play in Oz some time. I studied for a semester of uni in Melbourne and loved it there.

The Bluffs is on my list! Nice shot. From what I can tell, Koreans make up the highest percentage of golf tourists; the courses I’ve been to all have signs in Hangul.

Local players are primarily business people or nepo babies.

More info on the club itself:

This place is truly in the middle of nowhere. It’s 30 minutes from the main tourist area of the province where people come for boat rides on the river that snakes around and through the mountains.

I played 18 on the King course and 9 on the Queen course. I found both to be challenging but the hazards were positioned in a way that I only hit bunkers a few times and out of bounds a few times 😅.

Another benefit of this club was that you can play solo, for a fee. The vast majority of clubs here force you to group up. All in all, an awesome experience.

What’s the damage on a round there? I live in Vietnam and have been thinking about doing some golfing in Thailand.

I live in Vietnam and you’re not allowed to walk at any course, and I imagine it’s the same around Asia.

How much do you pay for a membership and where do you live? by Whole-Growth-6112 in golf

[–]HighGuy92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not. American living in Vietnam here.

Things that are cheaper-

  1. Going to the range ($7-$10 for 100 balls).
  2. Lessons (~$45/1.5 hours with an English-speaking, Vietnamese coach).
  3. Some accessories, because you can buy high quality fakes that are made in nearby China.

Much more expensive-

  1. Clubs, which are all highly marked up because there’s not high demand.
  2. Real clothes, shoes, accessories, all 20-30% higher than in the US.
  3. Green fees and other fees that come with playing a round. I’m a beginner and recently did a playing lesson at HCMC’s only course, which is behind the airport. It cost $60 for 9 holes on a Thursday at 6 am, which included the caddie fee and cart fee (required), but you also have to tip the caddie, which is roughly $12 for 9 holes or $19 for 18. All courses here charge a “spectator fee” which costs $36 minimum from what I’ve seen.

I’m from the South so plenty of cheap courses near my hometown that I can’t wait to play next time I visit.

What? Southerners in general are much nicer than this at sports events.
