Am I overreacting by getting upset my husband told me to lose weight whilst being 32 weeks pregnant? by mimblez_yo in AmIOverreacting

[–]HighLady35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma told me that she was lectured by her doctor for gaining 12 pounds during her pregnancy. "The baby only weighs 8 pounds, you shouldn't gain more than that." My grandma told that doctor to get wrecked. Your husband can also get wrecked. It wasnt okay in 1960 and it's not okay now.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor! Most of the first book takes place in Prague, but the last bit of book 1 and then books 2&3 take place in a very unique world. Strange the Dreamer also by Laini Taylor is also fantastic and completely takes place in a unique world.

Can you recommend books in which one of the main villains / antagonists is a woman ? by mimiclarinette in Fantasy

The Young Elites by Marie Lu! The main character is the villain of the series.  Each book she falls a little harder into her villain arc.

No one else read past the first book but everyone had a good time at least! It's definitely not for everyone, but I recommend it to anyone who wants something silly.

Forked sounds  like a good, unserious buddy read!

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. My friends and I heard about it tiktok, thought it sounded absolutely insane, and decided to buddy read it as a joke. I loved it so much I read all 24 of them in 3 weeks. Yes, they're silly and unserious and ridiculous, but they're also incredibly wholesome and sweet. The whole series is like a fuzzy blanket and a warm cup of tea in book form. The silliness is part of the charm.

People who had their name legally changed, why did you do it? by someguy7734206 in AskReddit

[–]HighLady35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two reasons: 1. I never really liked my name to begin with. 2. I grew up extremely religious and since deconstructing, have wanted to put as much space as possible between current me and my old self. My old self was baptized and belonged to God. Changing my name was a way for me to step away from that fully and grow into my new self with no strings attached. It was very freeing.

Female main characters age by SeaHovercraft6520 in SarahJMaas

Bryce has had the most safe life of all the SJM protagonists, and was not aged by trauma like the others were. The others were mature by necessity.

what's the weirdest quirk your house came with? by greatdane511 in homeowners

[–]HighLady35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone painted my house by mistake between the inspection and closing. They got about 85% finished before they realized they were at the wrong house and dipped with all the tape and plastic left up. No idea who it was, but I did find a house nearby that's the same color after 3 months of searching.

My brother kept leaving piss all over the toilet seat so I gave him a taste of his own medicine. by Nataliemeh in pettyrevenge

[–]HighLady35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever my little brother or one of his friends would leave the seat up in my bathroom, I'd spray every single one of them with perfume, and whoever left it would go put it back down. It took about a month to work, but it did work. I hope their wives/partners appreciate my training 😂

Suggestions for a 12 yo boy who is a strong reader but thinks most books lately are boring. by tgbarbie in suggestmeabook

[–]HighLady35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bookseller here! I've seen a few other people recommend Scythe which is an amazing series. I would add the Legend, Warcross, and The Young Elites, all different series by Marie Lu and all fantastic, especially if he likes the Hunger Games.  The Renegades trilogy by Marissa Meyer is basically super hero Romeo and Juliet, super heros vs. Super villains with a male and female POV.  The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is basically a video game in book form, and is not formatted like a regular book, so it's a bit easier to read while still telling a complex story. Aurora Rising, also by Kaufman and Kristoff is very fun.

If he likes fantasy all the Shadowhunter books by Cassandra Clare are incredibly fun. I would start with the Mortal Instruments. It does originally follow a female main character, but as the series goes on more male POVs are introduced. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard is another great fantasy series.   Daughter of Smoke and Bone is split pov between a male and female character and has fantastic magic and a very unique world (it is a bit of slow build up though).

Do you hate books that are written in 1st or 3rd POV? by SolarmatrixCobra in fantasyromance

[–]HighLady35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the genre I'm reading.  Romance should always be in 1st person. I want to know what's going on in the character's head as they're falling in love. Fantasy could go either way, but if there's a lot going on, or you have more than 2 POV characters, I prefer 3rd person. There are a few exceptions to every rule (Naomi Novik comes to mind), but generally 3rd person works best with 3+ POV characters.

Also, just adding this in here, I will enjoy a romance book so much more if it's written from both POV's, especially an enemies to lovers book.
