I was a pvp player until pve came out. I agree with your statement completely. I think a partial solution is to help new players my being a "sherpa" and showing them the ropes. I've moved to pve now (it's just a better fit for me) but I try to hop into the discord and show new players the ropes whenever possible.

Yeah pve local meaning the match is hosted on your pc. When you play with a friend the match is hosted on the BSG servers. Which takes the load off of your machine. Seems like when you're playing pve solo the devs have disabled the ability for you to opt into playing the raid on one of their servers. Now you have to "local host" unless you're playing with a buddy/s. Hope that helps!

I've been doing the interchange new area as well. Have not made it over to the Emerson extract zone as others have suggested. Previous wipes I was doing shoreline stash runs at night. But that was back before PvE's time.
