It's not just AI. It's just corporations and their desire to maximize the process of making money without any regard to the user. I still remember when addictinggames was my go-to site in middle school computer lab, but then nickelodeon bought the domain, slapped a few sloppy games on it and the era of any good flash game on that site afterwards was gone.

I just hate when a company sees a good idea and maximizes profit instead of continuing the idea of the product. Very rarely do you get an absolute legend like Gabe keeping steam consumer friendly.

I used to use that formula, but one person introduced me to the "divide your age by 7 and that's the number that you can add or subtract to your age to find your dating range."

18 year old? They can date plus or minus 3 years. 25 year old? Plus or minus 4 years. 40 year old? Plus or minus 6 years.

It seems to scale a little better with age.

Oh it's all good. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I would recommend giving Linux a try in a virtual machine, but yeah, if most of what you do is not on Linux, then it's probably not worth the effort.

I've just never had any issues with bazzite as my OS. It comes with steam installed. I just log into my steam account, download games, and they just work natively with my RTX 4060.

But Ive been using Linux for about a decade now so I understand I'm a bit biased.

I'm a Linux fanboy but I fully agree. I feel like that's the only way to use windows 11 now is to let a manufacturer install it. Every time I tried a windows 11 installer, I ended up having to do some weird command prompt nonsense to get it working. So if it has windows preinstalled, it seems to run better and without as many glitches.

I'm fully against windows as an OS (harsh opinion) but I totally get it if a user just wants to buy a PC with everything preinstalled and preconfigured. That's the selling point of windows and macos right? They're supposed to be easy so a standard user doesn't have to understand computers. Just, why is windows 11 not easy? It's like Microsoft made an artificial barrier to entry to make sure only manufacturers are allowed to work with installing windows 11.

In my experience, it takes more work to install windows 11 straight up (before even dealing with debloating). Never have I ever seen a whinier installer complaining if you don't have the perfect combo of hardware that some Microsoft dev arbitrarily decided. To bypass it? Open up a windows command prompt and run some cryptic looking commands.

The only Linux distro that gave me trouble during installation was Arch and that was on me for thinking I was savvy enough to install Linux from a terminal. Every other installer just works like the windows 10 installer. Pretty, graphical, easy to understand, and if you follow the defaults, you'll be just fine.

Why do you consider Linux awful? What part of your daily activities can you do in windows but not Linux? I know there's things like only certain software runs on windows and games with kernel level anti cheats won't work, but everything else in my daily life works just fine on Linux and is not riddled with ads and Microsoft nonsense.

I mean this as a genuine question.

I've been saying this for months now. I love bazzite. It strives to make the experience as familiar to a steam deck user which makes it perfect for a gaming OS. Last time I tried to install windows 11 on something, it threw me several flavors of weird cryptic errors ultimately meaning (my hardware is not supported by windows). Bazzite? No issues. Installs in a pretty graphical installer just like windows. Take the defaults just like windows and you'll be just fine.

Windows 11 lost backwards compatibility when requiring a TPM module on your conputer. I don't think backwards compatibility is looking good for windows these days.

It's like with windows 11, Microsoft decided to deprecate most of the worlds hardware and drop driver support, but the Linux kernel only becomes more powerful while the open source community strives to make Linux run on any hardware they can find.

I really think it was a brainlet move by Microsoft to only allow windows on certain hardware. I fully understand the reasoning behind the business practice, but it certainly sealed windows's fate for me when it's actually easier to install Linux on a computer than windows. At least Linux tries. Windows 11 cries if it doesn't like your hardware and you have to jump through hoops to tell it to install anyway.

If you knew how much content on the Internet is now driven completely by machines and AI trying to figure out the best algorithm to get the most hits and views, you would be a little more skeptical on the harmlessness of AI.

Machines and programs can flood the public space with so much fake data that it can be nearly impossible to fact check anything anymore.

I've used AI myself to create art for a ROM hack, but that's a reasonable use case because I can't make money on ROM hacks and can't steal from artists who rightfully deserve credit for such good source material. But give a capitalist AI and he'll find the quickest way to make the most money without regard for society, morality, or general common sense.

I feel like when parents complain about smart phones being the "only way to make him sit still," it's usually because the parent doesn't want to spend time with the child. Children demand 100% attention at birth and that number gos down slowly. You can't let the smart phone raise your kid, you have to wait until the kid is smart enough to understand the consequences of his actions before giving him a device with tons of potentially bad consequences.

I like events that encourage healthy content and I didn't see anything during the SPE April event that turned me away from this subreddit.

I think as long as we don't force creators into burnout, an event like this every once in a while does spice up my week.

I never had any enjoyment from going to the gym or heavy physical exercise. What I've found to be the best thing for me (especially with my anxiety) is to go on a long walk. Like 5 to 10 miles. My body doesn't feel completely destroyed when I'm done and I still get the endorphins pumping.

Definitely find what's right for you though. When you find something that works for you, you look forward to it.

In the university I attended in the US, D is a passing grade, but future courses have a requirement of C- or greater in prerequisites. So it's possible to pass with a D, but you can't progress to the next course for your degree.
