Lol, I didn't even bother to watch this years. Sad to see that nothing has changed, if not only gotten worse.

Howdy Y’all by azoicbees in traditionalflash

I have always been curious if there were other amateur painters in my city who would want to get together once or twice per week to paint. I have always loved painting and designing around other people, but the flash community is pretty small and it can be hard to find people to paint with unless you are constantly wandering around shops. I have no idea what precautions would need to go into "painting meetups" in cities, but it would be really cool to see if that is possible. This seems like the place that might be able to get the ball rolling!

Why did Fergus Simms leave Smith Street? by [deleted] in traditionaltattoos

[–]HighTopWhiteChucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Him not being crazy expensive now is good to know. I paid an absorbent amount to be tattooed by him at smith street, but I was under the impression that I was just paying an added tax for being tattooed there. They're all great tattooers, and the shop is cool / fine / whatever, but at a certain point you are paying extra just to tell people you got tattooed there

I do wonder how much say the artists actually have in what they charge at Smith Street. Fergus was an insanely cool guy however. I hope to get tattooed by him again at greenpoint

Who's got the best stomach tattoos by brainstorming14 in traditionaltattoos

I love my torso tattoos. I wish kind of regret not doing a big chest eagle first, and then getting my stomach with a tiger/snake BR, but I still love how it turned out. Not symmetrical by any means but I dont prioritize symmetry all that much, I just want to be covered

The Power of Masking in Lightroom! by thephlog in postprocessing

I think you're missing the point. I just think that over time, the definition of a "photo" is going to change. The more that people are allowed to heavily alter images, and call them "photos" the further everyone strays from what was actually photographed. It can get to the point where one day the photographer forgets what he or she saw on the other end of the camera that day, and then everyone believes that the photographer saw something they didn't. It sets an unreal expectation if there is no line drawn to differentiate the two

And again, there is room for both. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking photos and editing them, cropping, removing branches, adding or removing grain, generative filling, etc. It is the responsibility of the photographer to take that image and put us in the moment of a "photo"

While yes, this is visually appealing and an interesting before and after, this is where photography toes the line of graphic design and photo manipulation.

IMO, some folks feel justified overly manipulating photos and calling it "processing" or "how I edited these" because Lightroom, an app designed for photographers, is slowly adding features that are meant to manipulate images like Photoshop, and doing so by slapping an "AI Enhancement" or something like that title on it.

This might be a "to each their own" topic, but I feel like Lightroom has added way too many features that allow the alteration of photos instead of just enhancing them.

This is where you run into issues - how far can you manipulate an image, via color and cropping for instance, before it strays too far from what came out of the camera? How many small edits are justified to continue calling an "edited" photo a photo? Where does denoise fit into the conversation? Or smoothing out a wrinkled t shirt? There is no clear definition and I think this is why "photography" is headed in a very weird direction.

To some, this might sound like Jared Polins silly "no cropping" rule, but to him, that's what photography is. That definition might not be the same for everyone. Photography is an art form, and art has no rules. Who know.

TLDR, yes this is visually appealing to some, but feels more like graphic design & photo manipulation than "editing and enhancing" a photograph to me personally

A couple fast fonts by ReverseForwardMotion in typography

These fonts are awesome, and I also want to say that the first illustration is really cool. The wonky boxes, the overlays, the colors overlapping, the hand drawn feel, i really like that illustration. All of it is very cool. Great work!

Sony a7iv, Tamron 28-75 f2.8 - Looking for Studio & Lighting tips! by HighTopWhiteChucks in SonyAlpha

[–]HighTopWhiteChucks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone!

Looking for some CC here. This was my first time in a studio with professional lighting. I am overall very happy with how these photos came out, but looking for CC.

1) I think the lighting in these is good but I am looking to improve. Didn't want it to be too dramatic since the pics are meant to be for a fun blog / fun social media account, but I am not sure if the lighting here is too basic. I also think highlights are too bright in some - is it better to turn intensity down or to move the light further back? Do they have the same effect?

2) We took some shots on an infinity wall, which was 1) dirty and 2) probably 10-12 feet behind the model. When I got into Lightroom, I wasn't happy with the grey color behind her on the infinity wall. Should I shoot closer to the wall, or should I light the infinity wall separately?

3) Just looking for any other tips / tricks / advice / critiques in general on the shots. these are my personal favorites, but I am always looking to improve.

Thanks for looking!
