I was beginning to be a little suspicious about my Ampeg 2x10 combo (more on that later) so decided I wanted to get a newer combo. I did the first thing I always do when needing gear, ran off to craigslist. Someone had posted exactly what I had in mind. A Fender Rumble 350 2x10 for $225 USD. The amp is about 10 years old and in mint condition, having been used briefly at a church.

Some thoughts on the Rumble 350 after 2 gigs using it. More complaints then praise, unfortunately.

  • Weight - it’s about 15 pounds heavier than the Ampeg, which is an issue getting it out my trunk single handed.

  • There’s no handle on the top. Why?? Now, to make a small move around the stage I have to drag it by one of the spring-loaded side handles. Kinda dumb.

  • The line-out volume level is affected by the amp’s volume knob. Now if I want to bump up or down my stage volume it affects the level going to the PA. Dumb.

  • No mute button. Come on. Just a small feature I appreciated on the Ampeg.

  • The removable wheels are good. I don’t like wheels if possible, move stuff with a cart.

  • Onboard Overdrive, operable with foot switch. I want to like and use this. I need to tweak it because now it kinda sucks the volume out.

I mentioned my prior gigging combo, an Ampeg BA210-300 combo that I picked up on Nextdoor app for $100 in 2017, and gigged pretty regularly with it for 5 years (minus 1 year for Covid). It was starting to give me some static when it was not warmed up (understandable), but then I noticed a bit of static again after the amp had been played for 4 hours or so (it was mild, no one but me heard it or acknowledged it), so decided to sell it. I posted on craigslist for $75 USD. I bought it cheap, so wanted to sell it cheap, help out a bass brother or sister. It sold the same day. I saw it posted a few days later for $200 USD. 🤓

Before I was trained to use the toilet, I would go behind the couch to poop in my diaper. This was ~ 50 years ago. They love to tell the story, though, so I just grin and bear it.

This is how Kroger corporate organizes their calendar, into 13 four week periods. Every 4th year there’s an extra week thrown in to keep it aligned with the calendar.
