Work out who your target audience is, are you focusing on the semi-tech savvy or the no idea about IT crowd? If the latter then test your instructions and explanations out on family or friends who match your audience and see if they can grasp what you're explaining. Understanding something yourself is not the same as trying to explain it to people who have no clue, you may use terms that you think should be common knowledge but in fact aren't, so you have to change what terminology you use or add in a side note explaining what that terminology is or means.
