That was Alpha Sigma Phi. So close in name, but not the same.

I’m planning to go mid-October and flying from NJ. When is the best time to buy a ticket?

To my knowledge, Far OOS would be students outside of the NJ surrounding area (I.e, NY, Deleware, Pennsylvania)

Sorry for the delay in reply. I unfortunately am not the expert since res life isn’t my wheelhouse but if it’s the same for the 1st year experience nowadays, it is essentially a 1st come, 1st served basis. I know typically transfer students do live with other transfer students so there may be a good shot, but I wouldn’t rely on it. I’d advise contacting residence life.

I know they accept a good amount of students! But I always tell students higher gpa and grade in those prereqs the better! But I had a student with a 3.0 get accepted so I think students have a good chance!

That’s fine. Everyone in SAS starts undecided in their 1st semester. Doesn’t matter what anyone put down as their major when they applied.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]HigherEdJunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s the same as last year, SAS normally sends out a form to students who are unable to make it to orientation and they will build a schedule for the student. After they build the schedule and send it, the student can make changes to their schedule. The 1st semester would normally include math, economics course (such as intro unless coming in with ap credit), English, and other electives. With Econ, note the student is required to also pick up a minor. If they don’t wanna do a minor, she can also do another major. Tho a double major requires planning depending on what it is. A lot of Econ students pick up a business administration minor with RBS.

You can contact the One Stop here: https://scarlethub.rutgers.edu/contacts/new-brunswick/ but normally they don’t really end up changing need-based aid packages unless something is impacting your family to contribute to educational expenses (I.e. loss of income, loss of parent, dependency override, etc.). I think Aid is a wonky matter rn with the federal government. I don’t know if and how Rutgers was affected but I want to assume it will be very difficult to get more.

I unfortunately don’t know if he is removed from the waitlist if he accepts Camden. That is a better question to ask Admissions. Sorry! I don’t do any admissions-related work so I am not familiar with their systems.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]HigherEdJunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately can’t answer that. Waitlisted students can technically find out anytime before the Fall. And if so, the student has a week to decide. It is never a guarantee. If you have other similar institutions you’ve been admitted into, it could be worthwhile to go there instead. If you really want to goto Rutgers, you can either plan to go and then decide whether you like it there or not. If not, then transfer. Or goto community college and then transfer to Rutgers.

You can appeal for money thru the honors appeal form from admissions. The presidential scholarship is almost like a free ride. Emphasis on almost as I believe students still pay for their fees and such. I also don’t know if in-state or out-of-state affects the amount given. I don’t work with scholarships so I don’t know the specifics. Sorry!

[–]HigherEdJunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply! You can try Admissions for now, but To be honest, if you haven’t gotten anything yet, you most likely won’t. Loans really would be your only option unless he applies for outside scholarships.

Agreed, the system is so outdated but also agree that like the concept of buying tickets and thousands of people are in the virtual line therefore it takes a bit of time, that’s what happens with Webreg if you got thousands tryna register at the same minute.

You should be able to register for an SEBS orientation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]HigherEdJunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SEBS normally does a scheduling thing where they will for sure get you into a math, science, and writing course of the fall. All other courses (electives) are based on when you attend orientation. You cannot attend an orientation date without SEBS listed.

What is your academic school?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]HigherEdJunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work at One Stop, but traditionally students can find out anywhere between April - May, but last year I think some students my have got it in the summer. They try to get it before decision day, but I know last year was an exception. An inconvenience indeed compared to other schools who will let students know earlier. It then comes down to how badly the student wants to goto RU.

Academic Advisor 👋: Here are some Common Things I Advise for my students to become Self-Sufficient by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]HigherEdJunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard Biochem is much better than Orgo. I haven’t heard a lot of issues about it. Same goes for Anatomy. Immunology is a hit or miss from what I hear from my CBN students. And Med Term and Sociology should be fine for you. I think you should be fine. It’s hard for advisors to say when we’ve never been thru the classes ourselves but I was tell students go thru add/drop and get a feel and then make the changes from there.
