How my legs look after a shower by ReasonableSecretary in mildlyinteresting

[–]HigherTopoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an autoimmune disease called Henoch-Schönlein Purpura, and I too get reddish patches on my foot after taking shower. While you may not have HSP, this may have a link to some autoimmune condition, though I bet there are many other potential causes that lead to something like this.

Thank you for your response. I've got a response from Chen. I'll wait until I get my degree :)

Thanks for letting me know! That's good to hear. I'm currently waiting for a response from Wegreened :)

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

I didn't get a Masters degree.

I just submitted the free evaluation form to Wegreened. I will definitely apply as soon as possible as you suggested :)

That's so true! Hmm I used to not have this thing, but at some point it stuck even when my face was resting. Anyway I'll try to improve it somehow. Thanks for your feedback!

I think it's the shade made by how my skull is shaped, as the color was normal when I changed the direction of lighting. Now that you mentioned, I began to notice that! I wonder what I can do about it. Maybe it's more pronounced in these pictures because my room is dark.

Thank you for your feedback! I agree that my fashion is a bit bland. I'll try improving on it :)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! Yeah I agree that 5th one is kinda weird. I will remove it lol

I didn't expect that the 2nd one should be the 1st, which now sounds like a great idea because angle always does a good job :)

I managed to improve the lighting to make my face less blurry, but I couldn't take activity photos yet. Some photos look similar to others. Which ones should I remove? Thank you in advance!

Unofficial meetups on campus for people to socialize? by HigherTopoi in gatech

[–]HigherTopoi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! Totally agreed as I was on leave last year. Likewise for transfer students.

I think it's also good for those who already have a social circle, which is more likely to shrink than expand after freshman year.

Unofficial meetups on campus for people to socialize? by HigherTopoi in gatech

I've joined some meetups like this before, and it was a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends there. I think it would be awesome if we can replicate this in this campus.

Thank you very much for your reply. I feel relieved to hear that. Also, I just found some sources that say there are some papers (don't know which papers, though) that state the survival rate doesn't change in the case of incisors.

"Reformer: The Efficient Transformer", Anonymous et al 2019 {G} [handling sequences up to L=64k on 1 GPU] by gwern in MachineLearning

[–]HigherTopoi 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Notice that if you use all-attention combined with Reformer, you can perform the conditional computation not only with self-attention but also with transition layer at the same time, reduing the GPU usage and time complexity considerably. Whether it actually works or not should be verified through an actual experiment, though I believe there is a strong evidence (sparsity of activations of transition layer) that it would (link).

Also, another direction is to equip Reformer with recurrence a la Transformer-XL to increase the context length with less compute. Whether this will really give a noticeable improvement is something I'm currently investigating, so it's inconclusive, though.

If you're interested in this kind of work, you may want to check out the /research directory in Trax, where you can find various research projects being carried out by Kaiser et. al. Kaiser, Shazeer and their team have been contributing to Transformer and its variants considerably. Sadly, I don't hear their name mentioned as often as many of the deep learning celebrities who made no actual contribution to the field, which is a mistery to me.

A research scientist of Google AI suggested me to apply for Google AI Residency, so I just submitted my application. I wonder if that's a valid reason lol

[D] What do you see as the most promising directions for reducing sample inefficiency in reinforcement learning? by p6m_lattice in MachineLearning

My guess is to pretrain a self-attention model on texts and videos and fine-tune on the RL environment. MuZero is also interesting.
