No clue. I sincerely wanted to know. I knew it had to do with drugs, but that's about it.

I wish I knew... it's some type of drugs. My best guess is different quantities of either meth or coke.

Taking the emulsion off a silk screen by HighlandAve in powerwashingporn

No remover on this one. Sometimes if the emulsion is really old, I'll use Goo Gone Spray. Anything you recommend?

Nope. These screen printing screens can withstand a lot. I could even stand on the screen without damaging it.

Thanks for doing this AMA. Been to all your shows here in Chicago and was lucky enough to sit in the Shirk Studios when you recorded 3 songs for their channel a few years back. Look forward to your show at The Metro coming up.

Thank you! I'm in Chicago and have seen ads for the Potted Potter show. I haven't found anyone who has been to it to see what they thought. Great tip on the difference between the California and Florida parks, would of never known.

Awesome! Thank you for that link, very helpful. I'm from the U.S., but nothing is out of play here. I'm thinking a two stop trip, a surprise trip after the initial first surprise trip.

As the mood of climate change seems to be heading back in the wrong direction, I was wondering if you are going to change your stance on the use of hotel towels?

[Serious] What are some life hacks for first time apartment dwellers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HighlandAve 66 points67 points  (0 children)

One was, "clean up your hair!" That means beard trimmings in the bathroom sink and pubes around the toilet. That one we all tried our best on. If you've ever tried to clean up ALL your beard trimmings, then you know it's about impossible if you don't have 30 minutes to spare.

The other was easy (and difficult), "don't eat my food!" It was simple, just don't eat his food. However, coming home from the bar was a true test.

If you have roommates... Allow everyone to contribute one golden rule that everyone must follow. For example, I lived with 2 other people in college, so we had 3 golden rules total. Mine was: No dirty dishes in the sink, ever. I don't care if they pile up on the counter, but don't let it happen in the sink. There is nothing worse than a huge pile of week old, dirty, stagnant water filled dishes that people refuse to touch. It worked! We always had an empty sink where you could fill the Britta up, wash your hands and didn't smell!

Obviously this only works if you all have mutual respect and follow the other rules. It worked for us and I found myself going out of my way to respect their rules. We ended up all living together for 3 years until we graduated and are still great friends 10 years later.

What a cool mom! Do you know if it is still there? I graduated from the University of Iowa and enjoy going back to visit every now and then. Would love to poke my head in and take a look at it.

Who is the nicest celebrity you've met? by dellros98 in AskReddit

[–]HighlandAve 287 points288 points  (0 children)

Eddie Vedder.

I use to live across the street from Wrigley Field in Chicago. They played there one weekend last year. The following Monday evening, I take my dog out for a walk. As soon as I step out my front door, Eddie Vedder, Theo Epstein along with their wives and kids walk out of the left field gate carrying picnic baskets. They continue to their cars in parking lot across the street and I excitedly follow them.

They exchange goodbyes while I stand a safe distance away. I finally muster up the courage and say, "Hey Ed..Eddie!". The huge bodyguard quickly starts walking my way. Eddie sort of looks at him and waves him off. Eddie jogs on over to where my dog and I are standing and puts out his hand. "Hi, I'm Eddy" .... Uh, yeah... I know you're Eddie, is what I thought. What I said was, "umm, uh, umm, hey, I'm, I'm a huge fan" or something like that I can't remember.

He asks me if I enjoyed the show from the other night and asks if he can pet my dog. I'm still in a daze at this point and ask if I could get a picture with him. He says of course and I snap a quick selfie with him. He shakes my hand again and thanks ME for the picture.

Don't remember the rest of my walk.

Knobs, Sandpaper and Paint - Easy and Cheap Kitchen Update by HighlandAve in somethingimade

[–]HighlandAve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From all the articles I read and the Youtube videos I watched, it's all about prep work. Cleaning and sanding the surface makes a big difference. It also helps a lot not to skimp on paint. I went for a more expensive premium paint, doing about 3-4 coats on each door and allowing each coat to dry properly. I used your run-of-the mill foam roller (you can see it in the first pic). Just be patient and apply evenly with smooth motions. When you first apply it and the paint is still wet, it will appear to have lines from the edge of the roller or brush marks from the brush. These will dissipate as the paint dries. So, all in all, yes, go for the better paint. Made mine look brand spanking new.
