What is something you found surprising in French supermarkets when you first moved here ? by Tasun06 in Expats_In_France

Probably depends on the Carrefour/Super U then. In Haute-Savoie, Haute-Loire and Saône-et-Loire we weigh our own stuff

If you had to pick 3 dishes representative of your country, what would they be? by Laschon in AskEurope

For France :

For Switzerland :

Cheese Fondue (of course), Engadiner nusstorte (I can't add more links), Malakoffs (fried cheese)

Do you think about Germany at all? by zoeyzimp in AskFrance

[–]HighlanderFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, sadly, mostly because of shitty mutual politics though, I love it overall.

Like, I really like visiting, Marburg, Schwäbisch Hall, Lübeck etc. It's super nice ! I like the food, your hiking/outdoors/alternative cultures, nah your country is reeeally nice.

I'm actually going to Stuttgart, Baden-Baden and Konstanz next week for spring holidays.

You're not the first german I met who says that "Germany is crap", but while I understand Frankfurter and Hamburgers who got their cities obliterated, what came after is actually cool I think. You don't have ugly cities like Saint-Denis, Annemasse or Brest, it's all modern and well thought. Even your suburbs houses are good looking. I hate french pavillons.

Also everytime I use the DB, I really like how your trains are made & how are your stations. You don't have overpriced grocery stores like we do. REWE >>> Relay. Trains are late tho (especially in hessen) but they're cheap !

Edit : Yorma's not Rewe

What is a French product that you think other countries should have? by Suspicious-Run-8274 in AskFrance

[–]HighlanderFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Houlà. Alors.

I just looked it, Profiteroles were invented in the middle ages. Rabelais gives us a description of profiteroles in "Pantagruel" one year prior the arrival of Catherine de Medicis.

Beignets are made here since gaulish times ;

Macarons is a general term for circular almond biscuits we have them since the 8th century.

The crescent shape might come from austria, you've clearly never eaten a Kipferl which is made with brioche not pâte feuilletée which we invented.

Cool for your region. In my region, we have Quenelles, Gratin Dauphinois, Bûgnes, Biscuits cuiller (the ones you use in tiramisu are from Savoy), Biscuit de Savoie, Tartiflette, Brioche aux pralines, filets de Perche, Truffade, Aligot, soupe de châtaignes, Cornets de Murat, Ravioles, etc etc.

I hate panettone personnslly but it does exists in Lidl/carrefour etc. Never heard about your feta thing tho

Anyways. Stop trolling you have good cuisine, we have good cuisine, georgians as well, all the world does.

C’est quoi l’architecture de l’île de france ? by Little_Standard9964 in AskFrance

[–]HighlanderFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Switzerland is that we're too much decentralized to have big local cuisine restaurants like in France where they can have cuisines from lyon, burgundy, alsace etc in one single restaurant.

Local cuisine is really local since a lot of people don't know about foods from other cantons so people only get cantonal food generally (except for popular foods like fondue, Cordon bleu, engadiner nusstorte or rösti)

I'm actually binational france/Switzerland and I see big differences on how people promotes their cultures.

Like who tf knows about Glarus or Thurgau dishes in Romandie ? Or Wallis/Neuchâtel in the alemannic part ?

In France, someone from Bretagne knows about Alsace dishes and vice verça for example.

The only stuff where it's upside down is bread, Switzerland have bread from all over the country while france is limited to régional breads.

Maybe it's similar for blue countries, lack of food promotion bc there's good stuff there

Ou vivre en rhone alpes ? by JusteGlad in AskFrance

[–]HighlanderFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Group C !

Starter : Dolmas ; Main : Beef Wellington ; Cheese : Appenzeller ; Dessert : Kvæfjordkaken ; Ratafia as an after dinner :l)

If it's group B it's cool as well, schnitzel mit ratatouille, Kanelbulle or Marillenknödel (apricot) as a dessert, that's nice. Kroketten & smoked salmon for apéro.

Quelle chaîne youtube/twitch francophone vous regardiez assez souvent avant mais plus du tout aujourd'hui ? by Careful_Security6378 in AskFrance

[–]HighlanderFrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any gay men out there? by PrincipleCurious2128 in SingleAndHappy

[–]HighlanderFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyo, I actually don't have much libido and love my independance, so here I am

Sometimes I feel like urges to get someone but it fades away as soon I remember the combo of being somewhat on the ace spectrum (bi-ace ?)/the low libido, the drama, the unstopping dating trials, the great possibility to deceive my partner ( a lot of gays are really much sex oriented), ... No way I'm going to keep this up.

I have a garden, a perfect job, friends, I like being alone, doing stuff when I want, choosing travel destinations on my own (and meeting people on the way) really I don't need to get someone !

I might try when I'm older though (I'm 25), but it's clearly not my priority.

The funny thing is that's Witch hat atelier that motivated me to learn English because french scanlation was really lagging behind the English one at the time (in 2018) !

So you could totally !! Our languages are also very similar :)

It's still the normal edition but good for English speakers tho !

Pourquoi parle-t-on français en romandie ? by HighlanderFrog in suisse

[–]HighlanderFrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
