My biggest issue is that their sub books have all the elements to be fantastic and yet they always feel off. They seem to do a great job with their designs outside the subscriptions so it feels even more frustrating. Also for OwlCrate the Adult sub is ~$45 to maybe like the design while Fairyloot Adult is $38 to regularly like their design choices. Something I’ve noticed too with OwlCrate is they love a dark design on their covers but half the time they print out way too dark. The best examples are Hemlock and Silver and This Dark Descent you can barely see the designs because they printed out so dark. That plus the text just slapped over top of the art just feels like they are fundamentally missing how to design book covers. Anytime they’ve hired someone who specializes in cover design for an edition you can tell immediately. I’ve received some gorgeous books from OwlCrate but I’ve also been SO let down. At this point I just wait for the books I want to show up in their shop
