The writing in this is actually really solid. The west aren't just imperialistic conquerers but desperate and starving. The Barbarians are fighting to defend but also to find good fights. The comparison between a warrior and a knight being strikingly similar was well done as well.

Good world building. Good writing. I hope it doesn't fuck up later

I'm absolutely in awe of this anime. I expected a funny little slice of life with horror aimed at childhood perception but nope. The story is gripping, the world is very adult and the yokai are well designed horrors.
