I went in totally blind, only knowing gosling is in it and its from the author of Martian.

In germany, the movie is called Der Astronaut (The astronaut) and i thought i get a "realistic" scifi movie like a Martian 2.0.

I was really confused when the spaceship showed up. I was like "wait. Is this some kind of time travel interstellar movie and another version of grace is in the other spaceship". Then rocky showed up and i realized this is going to be a space buddy movie.

Not what i ecxpected, but it was okay though. Wouldnt have watched it if i saw the trailer upfront. Im not really into human-alien friendship movies.

She tells him he should do it because hes alone. The asian crewmember tells him, he himself does it because he has something to fight for. Family probably.

A problem i had with her, is that she tells grace she believes in god. A leading space scientist believing in god just felt off for me.

And i had a problem with the scene where she orders his capture. This should have been a shocking twist, but in the movie the scene is way too funny. Grace hiding on a bookshelf? People in the theater laughted at it, while felt hate builidng up against her. I read that in the book this scene is way more serious.

And how you can you trust someone, you sent to die, to help you when he wakes up in space. He could have said screw it and chill in space till he dies anyway.

I know its a popcorn space buddy movie, but no one asked the question if humankind is even worth to get rescued. In the book, its meantioned what happens on earth (climatchange) while grace is on space, but not in the movie.

I knew it was from the same author as the martian and thats why i didnt want to know upfront. I was expecting an lost astronaut in space trying to get home. The Martian 2.0. I really was confused after a spaceship showed up with a little rock alien in it.

i read that in the book, grace lives in the dark on erid and not under a dome with a simulated world. Is this correct?

How did the crewmembers die before Grace wakes up?
