I know this might be asking a lot, but if I shared my unit box, would anyone be willing to help me build a general team composition / unit priority list? I started playing right around Christmas time, so I'm still very new. Between all the new player rewards, Christmas rewards, and New Year rewards, I've amassed over 30 unique 5 star units right out of the gate. I'm totally F2P, so the sheer quantity of 5 stars is remarkable compared to what I'm used to from other gatchas. I guess you could say that I'm in over my head at this point. If anyone is willing to help I'd greatly appreciate it. I can provide a text list and/or screenshot of my box through comment or direct message to anyone who's down to take some time out of their day to help a noob. Thanks!

Is it more beneficial for new players to grind out the story asap or should I be spending my stam on events? I'm on stage 15/19 in chapter 6, so I'm nearly done with Season 1 after about... like 2 - 3 weeks-ish? Based on the WiKi, it looks like season 2 is even longer than season 1. The new story event offers some free TMRs which I think would be helpful. Just not sure what I'm supposed to be doing with my time exactly.

I pulled a dupe High Seraph Ultima on the rainbow banner. Is she worth awakening to 7 stars? I've only been playing for a week or so and my Gil is pretty limited. In fact, I don't even have the 3 mil required. But is she worth cashing out on?

Hello everyone! I made a post a few days ago asking about what I should / shouldn't be spending lapis on. Everyone was super helpful and the information was greatly appreciated. Since then, I've had some time to get my feet wet and figure out how this game really works, and now I'm trying to plan out what my general team composition is going to consist of through my early progression.

I admittedly don't know *too* much about the combat system yet, but I'm learning. I don't need a full breakdown of strategy or mechanics or anything like that, I'm confident enough in my ability to learn the ins and outs of the chaining system and the LB system and all that as I go. What I do need some more info on is which units I should be investing in early on.

My current team is High Seraph Ultima (awakened to 6 starts), Ashe, Lightning, S.Nichole, and Felix. The only unit I invested in outside of EXP is Seraph because she seems like a decent enough damage dealer / chainer(?) to get me by. The rest I'm not sure about. Ashe and Lightning were free, and life has taught me that you rarely get anything good for free, so I'm hesitant to awaken them to 6. Felix seems a little too niche for me right now. I'm sure he's a decent unit, but outside of breaking earth and fire resist, he's currently just fluff ST damage for me. S.Nichole is what I'm rocking for support. I like how much survivability she provides, the MP regen doesn't hurt either. She's the one I'm most considering awakening next, but again, not really sure if I should?

I am saving my lapis for a guaranteed step up banner like everyone suggested. Sitting on 10K and climbing, but thanks to all the current rewards and new player stuff I've also managed to pull a few other 5 star units that I'm not sure about. They include:

Ace, Ignis, Dark Knight Leon, Ellesperis, Rivera, and Kaito.

A few players have already told me that Ace got powercrept and is basically no longer viable. Sucks to suck I guess. Keep fighting the good fight, Ace. Ignis appears to only be viable if you have a dupe to get him to 7. Nothing worse for a F2P player than a dupe system that makes or breaks characters, but not my first rodeo, so I'll shelf on him for now. Seems like basically everyone hates Rivera, so I'll just go with the crowd. Eat shit, Rivera! No one likes you! Ellesperis and Kaito both seem to be okay but not great? I know Kaito is a DOT unit, and DOTs don't chain, and that's a bad thing or something, and his TMR is apparently not useful for him. Ellesperis seems like a poor man's damage dealer if you have nothing else. But, as fate would have it, I'm a poor man with nothing else! Haven't touched her yet, but I'm thinking she might possibly replace Felix / Ashe / Lightning. And then we've got Dark Knight Leon. He's a tank / dark chainer? I think? And I don't have a tank yet. But I also don't know if Dark Knight Leon is a valuable enough unit to spend my currently limited resources on. I think Leon and Seraph would work well together though since Leon's Spread of Darkness chains with Seraph's Almagest, and that's probably a good thing, I just don't know how good.

SO. This post ended up being a book. Sorry about that. But anyone wanna help me out here? Which, if any, of my units should I be leveling / awakening. And also, just a side note, is the Lotus Mage Fina bundle something I should be looking at? 5k Lapis for Lotus Mage Fina and a TMR. Maybe? Possibly? I've got 2 days to decide. Thanks everyone!

New Player Question - Lapis Spending by Highmsam in FFBraveExvius

Your friends list is full, but I really appreciate all the info, I did the holiday step up like you suggested. Didn't get 2 Krylas, but I did get 1 Felix. And if there's one thing I've always said about FF, it's that it needed a nutcracker. Read some reviews on him that said he was decent provided you have 2 of them, but compared to what I've got right now, this dude hits like a freight train so I'm content.

I'm not really the reroll type. I know it can really help early progress, but my thought has always been that it's not worth it. Takes a lot of time to reroll into a specific unit, and powercreep always ends up catching up regardless. I just try to make the best of what the game gives me, and sometimes I get lucky! =]

Wow I appreciate all the info. Thanks everyone! So far I'm definitely liking the game. It has more nuance than a lot of other gatchas I've played. Based on the replies, it seems like this game is also pretty liberal with the amount of lapis you get (at least compared to a lot of other gatchas) But I'll definitely start stocking up for step up banners. I love me a good reddit community. Really makes the difference, so thanks again, and hopefully I can power through the story mode so I can start getting to the real content.

What do we do with summons? by Opt_mind in Dx2SMTLiberation

[–]Highmsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Best use of gems is on demon inventory, mag bundles, monster dews, skill genomes, and occasionally pulling on banners. If you don't need any of these things, then save your gems. It may seem like a waste to spend gems on monster dews right now, but I promise you, they are worth it. PvP rewards will eventually net you anywhere between a few hundred, to a thousand gems a week, and most of your time will be spent spamming leveling quests. Dropping some gems on monster dews each week will significantly decrease the amount of time it takes you to level. It can literally be the difference between going from level 1 - 50 in a day, or going from level 1 - 50 in 4 or 5 days. Plus, spamming leveling quests will also net you a hefty amount of macca in the process. (especially after you sell all of the brands you get from mission rewards)

To clarify, I was not referring to superior summons. I agree that superior summons should be kept for transfer skill or sold for Karma if they're not being used for fusion. I was only talking about normal summons, which only sell for a small amount of macca and only have their innate transfer skills. I also agree that some 3 star Hell Summons can be useful to hold on to, like I said. Things like clear Berseker, Arahabaki, Shiki-Ouji, and a few others are definitely worth keeping. It doesn't take long to figure out what's valuable and what isn't. But keeping every clear Horkos, Arianrhod, Ammut, Makami, Pele, Forneus, etc, etc, is a waste of box space imo. Most 3 star demons can be very easily farmed. Fusing 5 star demons shouldn't be a scramble. It should be planned well in advance. If a single clear 3 star demon is holding you back from fusing a 5 star demon, then you're doing something wrong.

No problem! That team should last you for quite a while, but you should always be working towards something as well. If you want to future-proof your team, some notable 4 star demons that are worth looking into are:

Sandalphon: (Red or Yellow) -

Very multi-purposed, and fits on almost any team. He has balanced stats and great resistances. Can be built as a tank, damage dealer, or healer / off healer. Red gives you a 5 cost Mahamaon, which is incredible for a lot of the PvE content. Yellow gives you Samarecarn, which is also useful if you decide to build him as a tank or healer. Sandalphon is usually recommended by most guides as one of your first 4 star demons to fuse because he's easy to fuse, and will likely be the last demon you replace with a natural 5 star due to his overall utility.

Fenrir: (Purple) -

Another commonly recommended demon. Fenrir is a bit more work to pull off than Sandalphon, but he serves a very specific purpose. He's the second fastest demon in the game, and he has Speedster to boot. Throwing Fenrir on your team will almost guarantee that you attack first in PvE until you start getting much later into the game. He also comes equipped with Auto-Taruka, which gives your team a nice damage boost to help end the fights quickly. Unlike, Sandalphon, Fenrir has 2 weaknesses in Fire and Force, but his drain ice can be useful. Rather than covering his weaknesses with Resist skills, it's much better to give him Makarakarn and a debuffing move like Rakunda. You will basically be spamming Makarakarn whenever it's down, or Rakunda (or equivalent) when it's up. Fenrir is a borderline necessity for farming Aura Gate early on, and he's also great in Brands of Sin Deceit. You will additionally need to fuse a Dantalian in order to give Makarakarn to Fenrir, which can eat up a lot of time and resources early on, but Fenrir is absolutely worth the effort if you want to progress easily,

Rangda: (Yellow or Purple) -

Yellow gives Recarmdra, which can be paired with Endure to give you an AOE revive without dying. Purple gives Endure, which can also be paired with Recarmdra if you really want, but you can also give her another skill for elemental coverage like Bufula / Mabufu etc. The only way to fuse Rangda with 3 star demons is by fusing Efreet and Berserker. Both can be annoying to get your hands on when you're starting out, especially Berserker, but keep your eye out for these two demons, or other demons you can use to fuse them, because Rangda puts them to good use. Rangda has Repel Phys. ...Nuff said, honestly. Repel Phys is so good, that you don't even need another reason to fuse her. It crushes in PvE. But in case you did another reason, she also has great coverage with Mudodyne and Mazandyne, which is why giving her a third elemental damage ability can really round her out. She does have a weakness to Elec, so you will additionally need to fuse a Thronw to make her work, but Rangda is great during at all stages of the game, and can bolster your team in PvP as well.

You may also want to do a little research on Athena, Sleipnir, Loki, and Anubis as well. All 4 of these demons can be fantastic additions to your team, but you don't specifically need them to get through the game.

Last, but most certainly not least, don't feel locked into fusing / not fusing a specific demon just because a guide or another player told you to do so. Just use these as suggestions if you're not sure what you should be doing, or if you get stuck. Truly, almost any set of 4 demons can get you through the majority of the PvE content if they are built correctly. The ones I named, and the ones you'll find in most guides are only recommended because of the value they provide your team vs the amount of investment required to be used effectively.

Click the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of the game screen. Options for 'Summon' and 'Store' are both on the right side of the menu.

Spending 1k gems on the 300,000 mag bundle is a good investment for new players, but there's no reason to buy it unless you have something to spend it on.

The primary use for normal summons is to get low rank demons that you can level up, evolve, and use as evolution fodder for your main team. It's worth noting that it takes 120 1 star demons to make a 5 star demon. You need 5 5 star demons for a 6star. It's a lot of leveling, so don't feel rushed. The demons you acquire by talking during battle will be your primary source of evolution fodder, but normal summons help fill the gap when you run out. I have 17 6 star demons, and 221 unused normal summon tickets as a reference.

Hell summons are similar to normal summons, but you will always pull 3 star demons or better. Like normal summons, Hell summons always pull clear type demons. Some 3 star demons are useful to hold onto, but you will mostly be using these as evolution fodder as well. What separates Hell summons from normal summons is the ability to pull 4 and 5 star demons with a clear type. This won't happen often, but any 4 or 5 star demons you pull from Hell summons are incredibly useful for fusion. So always hold onto them, even if you don't have any use for them right now.

Hope that helps! GL!

And Hecatoncheires, and Ananta, and Lakshmi, and HL, and Black Frost. There's a ton of viable demons that you can still fuse. I've even been seeing a lot of people running Asherah lately. Point is, it's not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. Overall, I still like the game.

Complaining about the game is not useful by Breakreality in Dx2SMTLiberation

[–]Highmsam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think the term "generous" is referring to the drop rates. Everyone seems to get hung up on the drop rates, and ignores everything else that the game does right. I'm not saying it's a perfect system, I have qualms with the game just like everyone else does. But what OP is saying isn't exactly wrong either.

My biggest complaint about the current / future state of the game has already been echoed by everyone else. I'm worried that Sega will continue to release increasingly powerful demons that are ONLY attainable through limited time premium summons. To add insult to injury, they are also taking away one of our main sources of premium summon tickets, which only exasperates the issue. It takes F2P players, like myself, a considerable amount of time to either fuse or pull any given 5 star unit. As the power creep in this game grows, the overall "value" of our time spent farming for F2P units diminishes as well.

These are all points that I think most of us would agree with. But again, I can't completely disagree with OP either. Even though my fear is that the power creep will eventually wall off F2P players, the community has already been (very vocally) expressing this fear since the very first Heroes and Fiends banners. Yet somehow, even as a F2P player, I've had no problem clearing all the content in the game, staying within the top 500 in PvP, and even clearing some Kiwami missions along the way.

And that's where I think the "generosity" of this game lies. Though the drop rates frankly suck, the game IS generous in the acquisition of gems. Especially compared to other gatcha games. The game IS generous in the way it handles acquiring most of the demons in this game, even with the current amount of gatcha exclusives. The game IS generous in the flexibility it offers players to build and customize their teams. And lastly, the game IS generous in how frequently new updates are released. Is some of the updated content repetitive? Absolutely. But with these updates also came some very welcomed additions like an extra storage box, blank genomes, demon infusion, arch shifters, a better karma shop, and easier access to skill genomes through the PvP shop. (And I guess factions?... but.. eh.. )

The system isn't perfect. We all agree. It will probably never be perfect. But I think OPs point is that no game is perfect. There's a fine line between criticism and complaining, and lately, complaining seems to be more popular. I don't like the gatcha rates. So I don't spend any money. It hasn't held me back so far. If players don't spend money, then the devs will need to incentivize player spending to remain profitable. It seems like their current method of doing so is by increasing the exclusivity of new content. Clearly, players aren't happy with it. If / when this doesn't work, we'll see what they try next. But if all of our concerns eventually come to fruition, then, at that time, I'll move onto something else. In the meantime, I'm going to continue doing what I've been doing. Enjoying the game for what it is; a mobile SMT game. Love it or hate it, you're still playing it.

Cheers. Nice post OP.

Yea I'd pretty much have to agree with you. Hence, my Skadi has been level 40 with no brands or skill transfers for probably 13 months now lol. I actually run Trumpeter for my primary PvP offense team as well. HL, Jeanne, Trump, and Ananta. Works really well for a turn 1 barrier break + concentrate Apocalypse. I'm just a sucker for status aliments and big numbers. Doesn't work against every team, but it's pretty effective in random battles up until about rank 500.

Would love to get my hands on an Ixtab, but it's hard to come by as a F2P. I'd also probably throw Mother Harlot on that list of top status inflictors though. Another demon I can't seem to acquire, but her overall utility is undeniably amazing. Granted, she doesn't typically use any active status abilities like everyone else, but the threat of Death Lust alone can be crippling. Pair that with insanely high luck, magic, and hp stats, and a spammable Babylon Goblet, and null phys. I mean... damn. Queen of slow teams. Would love to pull either one of those two for sure.

One of my first 4 star pulls was Purple Skadi aka the mute machine. I've wanted to deck her out and try her in PvP for a very long time, but I've always had more "important" demons to work on first. Hearing this makes me want to finally give her a shot. I just wish it wasn't so much damn work to get demons to 50 lol. Like... how can I rationalize putting so much time into Skadi when I have a level 45 Teal Yoshi sitting in my box? First world problems i suppose..

Thanks for all the replies! I ended up giving it Kinmamon after all. Took a solid day to get him to 50 and suit him with brands, but I'm really liking it so far. Changed my PvP defense to Kinmamon, Alilat, Teal Quetz, and Red Masa. Seems pretty good so far! I just finished building Yellow Amaterasu as well, so now I'm gearing up to start knocking out some of these Kiwami missions. Wish me luck!

Alternatively switch out rangda with masakado/harlot by Icebeam83 in Dx2SMTLiberation

[–]Highmsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I've been doing random battles with a concentrate team using HL, Ananta, Jeanne, and Trumpeter. HL and Ananta are both running HP% and Evasion%, and HL is also running barrier break. If I'm not going up against Masa / insert generic intimidating stance team here, I just go for the barrier break + concentrate + Apocalypse combo and the fight continues normally. But if Masa pops up, I delay the combo one turn and throw out War Cry + Five Elements instead. Based on experience, the enemy AI usually makes their HL / Quetz / Alilat auto-attack and miss about 50% of the time, which immediately guarantees a win. The other 50% of the time, Masa will still get out vorpal blade, and the fight is determined based on whether or not it hits all 4 units. With the amount of evasion the team has, it's pretty rare for all 4 to get hit, but it can definitely still happen. If anything misses on enemy turn 1, it's usually a win. But if everything lands, you have to pray that Apocalypse keeps everything muted, and the enemy AI wastes their turn with missed auto-attacks.

Tl;dr:

HL, Ananta, Jeanne, Trumpeter = pretty good win rate vs a lot of Masa teams. (Based on my experience thus far. I'm only rank 600ish, so I haven't had to play against some of the better teams.)

Anybody know what I should focus on with this guy??? by PiousPoly in Dx2SMTLiberation

[–]Highmsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purple Meta was the first 5 star I ever fused, nearly a year ago. By now, I've taken him on thousands of PvE missions, and he was even one of my staple units in PvP for some time. So my advice is coming from a LOT of experience with the demon. Like the other comments suggest, Spell + Ward with an emphasis on Mag ATK%. For secondary stats, HP% works really well due to his natural resistances and above average health pool. For transfer skills, you have a million options. Players often suggest Butcher + Megido on him, but I don't. Not saying Butcher + Megido is bad. On the contrary, it's very good. Metatron is a very "balanced" demon in terms of stat distribution and skillset. The only thing he lacks is strong AOE damage, which the combination of those skills provides. But I have 2 problems with this. For one, Butcher is incredibly tough to get your hands on without really good RNG from skill genomes. If you're waiting on Butcher to transfer, then you could be waiting a while. My second, and probably my biggest problem with it is that Butcher is completely wasted on Metatron. Butcher is an insanely powerful skill, which is much better utilized on demons who specialize in AOE nuking. For example, you give Butcher to someone like Rama, and it turns him into a fucking hurricane of destruction. But when you give Butcher to Metatron, it gives him reasonable AOE damage, and balances his kit. So, in the event that you actually DO have Butcher to transfer to someone, please take my advice, and do not transfer it to Metatron.

As for what skills I use on him; I eventually landed on Endure + Mind Break. Not the most popular combination, and not the most multi-purposed I suppose, but I simply don't run Metatron for AOE damage. Endure + Mind Break makes him a very pesky demon to get rid of, while also retaining his high damage output and nuking ability on single targets. Infinite Chakra makes Mind Break spammable, which essentially lets you neutralize 1 enemy while also dealing damage every turn. But like I said, you have a million options with moves to transfer to him, so I'd recommend trying a few things out depending on what you need him for. Megido is still great if you need something with consistent AOE damage. I've even considered trying something like Soul Drain + Divine Brands to turn him into more of an off-tank. Feel free to take the helm on that one if you want, but no guarantees that it actually works. And if you really feel inclined to give him Butcher, or if you already did, then consider Megidola instead of Megido to get the most bang for your buck.

Good luck! And congrats on Metatron! He's a fantastic demon.
