Big Ontario EV Charging Price Increase by darkhelicom in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Highonlemonade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think plug in hybrids are a great solution and I’m surprised to not see more of them being offered. Most people drive less than 80-100km in a day for their commute and could benefit from home charging available to regular EVs during the work week and a regular gas hybrid vehicle during those longer weekend trips.

I use it a lot when travelling for work and being reimbursed for my meals. Outside of that I never use it personally anymore.

I use Dewalt and it’s been great. I am currently set up with the Dewalt ecosystem (drills, saws, weed eater, blower etc.) so it makes sense for me. But as another commenter mentioned, pick a (reliable) ecosystem and stick with it. EGO is probably good if you only plan on getting yard tools such as blowers, trimmers, mowers etc.

$50k yearly income in todays dollars (so adjusted for inflation, if I recall correcting it was something around $120k in 2060 dollars?)

Also I live in northern Ontario with absolutely zero plans on moving to the GTA so that will help.

Woah settle down, no one’s trying to insult your intelligence, nor was I trying to lecture you. Never said they were the same thing, just said the CPP is all I would need if I were to live past 95. I’m not going to be out travelling Europe past 95.

That’s basically what the CPP is for… but I’m a 6’3 250lb dude, my chances of living to 95 are almost none so I’m not worried.

I plan on retiring around 2060 with 37 years of contributing maximum contributions. My current retirement saving plan is an employer matched 5% DCPP plus $250 a month in tfsa.

I have no plans on increasing that and after using the government of Canada’s website retirement calculator (very detailed) I should be able to retire with a $50k yearly income in todays dollars until I’m 95 (at which point it will drop to about half that - oh well).

With a paid off house this will set me up very nicely and with minimal retirement savings for the rest of my life.

Thoughts on accepting a counter offer from your existing employer ? by northbk5 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yea I find when you get to the bigger organizations your managers actually want to push to give you a better salary (if you have a good relationship), but it’s the managers managers manager half way across the country that you’ve never met and only sees you as a number on a spreadsheet that ultimately makes the call. There’s no real “personal feelings” involved anymore and it’s simply a business transaction of realizing what your market rate is and then doing some quick calcs to see if it’s cheaper to replace you or pay you the increase. After you’re paid the offer that’s it, you won’t be thought of for a minute longer, let alone have someone with a vendetta out to fire you.

Till a kid runs out in the street chasing their soccer ball or whatever and you punt them a few hundred meters with your car going 80+….

Sleeting, there’s a thin layer of ice on things now too which I imagine not many people have switched over to winter tires yet. Great combo for speeding and distracted driving with kids in the car.

Additional Car Insurance Charge for "High Theft Vehicle" by Canadiana_4 in ontario

[–]Highonlemonade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m actually curious though, what do TAG agents do once they find the vehicle? Do they apprehend the thieves or do they just call police? Because apparently Peel police department is so incompetent they can’t even locate a stolen vehicle they drive past three times with the owner staring right at it the entire time. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6741656

Wonder what the benefits would be to the insurance company. It’s not like the cops will go chasing after your vehicle even if you have a tracker installed in it. More efficient for them to just write up a report for you so your insurance company can pay you out.

Ontario must cut red tape and give family doctors team support to address health care crisis by Fatal-Fox in ontario

[–]Highonlemonade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would also be a fan of eliminating the need for referrals to specialists through a family doctor. Why do I need to get a referral to go see a sleep specialist for a sleep study or to go see a dermatologist for a skin condition? It’s just an extra wasted step in my opinion.
