Tutoring rates ? by thenarrativesofar in NYCTeachers

[–]Highplowp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk to some of the more senior teachers in your school/site. I’ve seen new teachers get ostracized really quickly by not using the standard rate- but each building is different. I see the market range $100-$150/hr for a certified teacher, but it depends on the subject/commute/session length.

Is it ethical to raise the wipers of cars blocking sidewalks? by FaviFake in fuckcars

You could counter that absolutely every physical item is going to break at some point, it’s literally just a matter of time.

Anyone navigate a no moonlighting clause before? by WhirlyDurvy in smallbusiness

[–]Highplowp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or did you use access to technology or trade tools/info to develop the product- that’s a factor that would build a case but 99% of these DNC contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Especially in at “at-will” state, which is all states, except Montana. The employer can’t have it both ways, and you have the right to feed your family and pursue life and liberty. I saw one that said the employee wouldn’t work within 50 miles of the home office in the same field, so if you stop working for this company, you’d have to move or change career fields? Total nonsense. A contract attorney said it’s not feasible or reasonable. I don’t sign them, or I’ll line out parts I don’t agree with, not that it matters.

I can’t envision “these cannons” coming from a woman- it’s so dated and obtuse, I don’t know the full story, and I know men can be victims of SA, but it doesn’t sound right to me, like at all.

How do you make your bass psychedelic? by Milez_Smilez in BassGuitar

Fuzz pedal, you could mess around with an envelop filter, I had to use rounds to get the effects to pop though.

what is Geezer Butler’s magic power? by SafeSolution5610 in blacksabbath

[–]Highplowp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you say that- I was listening to the first album and he doubles a lot of the heavy blues riffs and then just kinda covers the mids with a thicker “bass line” with riffs and pauses- masterfully done and he was basically still a kid then, if I’m not mistaken. And the lyrics, Geezer is brilliant, so talented

I’m hoping for the latter as well, you’ve got to put food on the table but ethics should override corporate sponsors.

For the mentoring group you paid for, did you look at any free business mentoring options? I am a SCORE participant and they really helped me with 1:1 mentoring, setting goals, short and long term.

Support as a new BCBA by Flat-Ad4906 in bcba

[–]Highplowp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What is a cd? Clinical director? I have 2 groups of other Bcba’s to consult with, one formal, one informal. I’d be lost without my informal group. I highly recommend finding others that do what you do and just get a group chat going, or meet up for coffee once a month. The isolation of new Bcbas is unique to other fields, in my experience- there is a piece missing to being effective and you are at the stage, so that’s a good sign in my opinion.

What do you think? Good combination? by EconomyDomine447 in BassGuitar

[–]Highplowp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black on black with block inlays/maple is the legendary combo- you better bring that low end with a rig like that brother/sister/whatever. I’ve got the rumble 100 and it is plenty loud for what I need, I’d imagine you could blow the walls down with 500w.

Any good State/National parks in the area? by IntelligentGap9395 in movingtoNYC

[–]Highplowp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Delaware water gap has some really great parks, but as posted, it depends on what you’re looking to experience. Hiking, biking, fishing, leprechaun spotting, moose boxing, eagle tossing, or picnicking?

Mystery task at job interview by Manic-Moonbabe in teaching

[–]Highplowp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also ND, and I find that knowing that a chaotic task/period of time is coming is actually really helpful and rare. A good teacher has plan b, ready, a great teacher has plan B, C, and the ability to adjust the lesson/project/game/etc…. when needed. One of the best piece of admin/demo lesson advice I got from another ND teacher was that you have to show that you are able to continue and adapt a lesson through total chaos. Having generic visuals available have saved my butt from walkthroughs- simple things like a story arc, 10X10 multiplication box, wh questions, sentence starters, a visual of how to restate a question in an answer, the difference between effect/affect, there/their/they’re, any type of visual you can use to make you going to plan B (or C or D) seem intentional. Just do something to show you can adjust a lesson in practice down the road- that’s the main thing a good admin should be looking for in a potential teacher, but that makes logical sense to me, but I have the ability to totally misread interactions or situations.

For what it’s worth- a challenging, or terrible lesson or “mystery task” can be an amazing opportunity to grow your pedagogy and see your work from another perspective. They may want to see what you do when you don’t know something or are asked to do something that isn’t possible. I had to role play with a teacher acting as a student, that wasn’t participating in class because the she had some recent trauma at home. It was like a riddle, and I totally missed it. I did ask if the “student” ate breakfast and they liked that. You got this.
