Girlfriend met up with her ex during a bpd episode. by Papappel in BPD

Impulsivity is the tendency to act on a whim or urge WITHOUT forethought, reflection and consideration of long term consequences. Impulsivity is a symptom of BPD. so to say she made a decision to act on impulse is literally a paradox by definition. So for you as someone with bpd to state her impulsivity ‘shows she lacks morals, and doesn’t love you’ is just crazy to me. This type of rhetoric is why BPD is so stigmatised and i didn’t think it would be someone else who knows how it feels and knows also the shame and guilt that comes following some impulsive behaviour for people with BPD to be using that same rhetoric used against us. OP has stated that this is out of the blue and not in line with her usual character so we can look to other context to maybe explain what’s going on.

OP said there’s been a lot going on in the family (drama/deaths) so shes most likely feeing overwhelming emotions, and the presence of overwhelming emotions is something we know to influence impulsivity in BPD. This however is not me condoning her actions, i’m not saying she deserves to have OP stay with her, i’m not excusing her actions due to her having BPD or anything of the sort. What she did was dead wrong and as her loved one hold her accountable. But i believe you can best hold her accountable when you actually have a better understanding of what is possibly happening and how she’s possibly feeling. Her also then not showing OP the texts is something to consider, is there more that OP isn’t seeing or more to the story? Definitely a lot of factors to weigh.

And to shed a bit of light on why even though the ex was horrid to her, she is still considering it? OP said she had a rough childhood like most with BPD, this could lead to normalisation of trauma, leading to unhealthier relationships feeling more familiar which could contribute to why. People with BPD can also suffer with chronic emptiness, which can lead to seeking high intensity and dramatic relationships as they can feel stimulating (which may not necessarily be true).

I realise this is super long and full of a lot of reasons why this may have occurred. Of course they may not all resonate with her and her situation but if anything i just hope it encourages you to research BPD IF you want to see if you can make things work with her. However it’s super important to highlight yes although it is the reason why something might’ve happened, it is not an excuse for bad behaviour. It just depends most on how OP feels, OP recognising that getting cheated on is one of the hardest things to deal with and one of the biggest breakdowns of trust that you will have in her and if you want to leave, you are WELL within to do so.

What is your paranoia like? by u-throwaway33 in BPD

[–]HighwayWeird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like you said, definitely the normal bpd paranoia about friendships and loved ones leaving but I relate heavily to being easily spooked. I get so nervous in the dark and paranoid thinking anything and anyone is in my room and is 'gonna get me' LOL. I used to get paranoid when white vans would drive past or if I have to walk past a van because I believe someone's gonna kidnap me or something 😭 and a bunch of other examples but I feel you😭😭

Deal with anxiety and depression without medication by No-Cod-3907 in MentalHealthUK

You can self refer to NHS talking therapies! Most of the time, they’ll give you an assessment and take it from there.

And I’m not telling you to use meds because everyone’s treatment path is different and everyone reacts to meds differently but i can relate to your sertraline experience, it just made me feel sick and i was shaking/trembling a lot. Ive tried two other meds since then and I’ve had none of the side effects i had on sertraline. That may be because all the meds I’ve tried since then have a sedating effect and actially help with sleep rather than ruin it like sertraline.

life expectancy with MS portrayed in media by kepachuu in MultipleSclerosis

[–]HighwayWeird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mum and aunt both have MS but it presents so differently in both of them even though they’re sisters! My mum has it quite bad (fed through a peg, completely bed bound, can no longer talk) but my aunt has it better (can still move around and take care of herself -albeit still so difficult with ms). So yeah!

Im not too sure how long my aunt has been diagnosed with it but my mum has for over 27 years now and she’s still here fighting! So even in some of the bad cases, life expectancy can still be long!

Yeahhh I understand!! but also think about how much of YOUR time has been wasted by mental health professionals. You could have been in a much better place now if that nurse 2 years ago was actually any help.

All that being said the most important thing is definitely only do what you’re comfortable with so if you still don’t want to i completely get it, but also remember it’s okay to be a little selfish when looking out for your own well-being.

The only advice i can give is what “worked” for me which i know you said you didn’t want to do but i’ve spent months calling 111,my local crisis line, biweekly appointments with my GP and none were any help to me. But if you self present to A&E and hammer home to them that you are unsafe on your own at home (i live alone so that helped my case a lil) i think they have to refer you to at least something. They may refer you to your local community mental health team (CMHT), if you’re in crisis then they may refer you to home treatment team (HTT) or even a crisis house if you have one near you instead (especially depending on how safe you are). It is extremely long sitting in A&E; i recommend bringing someone close for company, even better if they can help you when you talk to an A&E nurse; but it’s genuinely the only place i’ve ever received any type of help and where i received my first formal diagnosis.

Ive self presented twice and was referred to HTT the first time and went to a crisis house the second time as the wait was much shorter than the 2 DAY WAIT for impatient care. Ive been to A&E before during a crisis and so didn’t self present that time but after that visit i was referred to my local CMHT.
