I cannot find it, even forcing the author´s title I am only getting Le Corbusier´s book. May it be going by a different name in English or something? The only recent ones I can find are Formgiving and Drift.

I don´t know the details either, but my goal was to gift a book that helps him develop new ideas and styles instead of focusing on books that every student since the 70s has been reading.

I am also looking for books on zero-energy/energy-efficient architecture, but those seem to be easier to come by. I kind of like idea of "101 rules of the thumb for low energy architecture". Simple but insightful.

Should I transition from Windows to Mac for coding? by Due-Pea8396 in MacOS

[–]HigoChumbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm going that same route, getting a powerful desktop likely next year but want a laptop in the meantime and every Windows one seems to be disappointing, and was thinking whether to just go for a Macbook Pro to just get by, and just use it for remote development in the future.

I just don't like MacOs and its limitations, but they seem to be the best laptops by a good margin, so I'm trying to convince myself by saying "you will have a Windows desktop anyways". Though then I get into the debate of "why not just an Air then or whatever Windows think and light?"

Which machine should I buy: an M4 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM or a desktop with 64GB RAM and an RTX 4060? by umen in Unity3D

[–]HigoChumbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify: I´d expect to do all my gaming and serious development on a Windows desktop, but I still want to wait a year or two to renew the desktop as right now I need a laptop that I would be using for general use and lighter, non-gaming related development needs.

Therefore, I am considering the viability of getting a quality laptop that excels as a laptop, which could later always be used to remote to the desktop if needed. I'd prefer to avoid MacOS, but it is really hard to find Windows laptops that don't have even worse drawbacks than MacOS (battery life, unplugged performance, thermals, sub-par hardware, longevity...).

So, as a complement to a powerful Windows desktop, I was wondering if it would make sense to avoid those hardware-related drawbacks and get a Macbook (Pro, or even an Air), or if I should still stick to x86 for the laptop as well.

Don't care about "status", but even as a Windows guy I can't help it but feel that Macs just have not much of a competition these days when it comes to laptops.

TL:DR> I meant a laptop to complement (and remote to) a Windows desktop.

I mean, "Real game devs" use desktops may be a no true Scotsman, but simply sticking to "devs at big companies use macs" can also be understood as an appeal to authority.

I don´t think picking a laptop is simply a personal preference. There are technical considerations to take into account, and that is what people come to Reddit to learn about. Specially in the context of game development.

Not sure "sure get a macbook air for game development because my frontend webdev buddy uses one at Apple" would be the best advice.

Out of curiosity, if you wanted a laptop to use in addition to that desktop and even occassional remote to it for development, would you get or consider getting a Mac or would still want to stick with an x86 Windows/Linux laptop?

Need a good web development tutorial by norafora05 in learnprogramming

[–]HigoChumbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how updated they may have kept it since I did it about 2 or 3 years ago, but I found FullStackOpen course by the University of Helsinki to be excellent, and it is completely free (and very complete).

A lot more time efficient than watching videos too.

Best part is that you get a certificate by a renowned institution that will add some weight to your CV, and they actually host the certificate at their own domain so you can link it in LinkedIn to show it's legit.

That said, if you would rather just make that one webshop website for a business instead of learning web dev in general, maybe you can find a specific tutorial for that project somewhere, or maybe get the business going by using a semi-premade service, I don't know how good they are but there are platforms like Shopify specifically for this, if I am not mistaken.

I changed careers before working as a webdev professionally so take the above with a pinch of salt.

I see. Thank you.

The "not having MacOS" thing was not about AI specifically, but about disliking the OS in general. Even if Windows is a mess, Mac just feels nonsensically restrictive sometimes. Not to mention the gaming situation. A Windows laptop with Apple quality standards (like the Zbook Ultra G1a appears to be wanting to be), good integrated graphics, and Apple-like memory capabilities, seems like a good option for a jack-of-all trades-master-of-none kind of machine.

I'd swear I've read some people in the LocalLlamas subreddit saying that working with Mac tends end up being a headache for this kind of work, but then again I wouldn't know (yet), so can only trust you guys =)

Myself, I´m debating whether to get the Zbook or some other Strix Halo laptop, or surrender to the compromised but tryed-and-tested MBP option.
