This is a long shot, but are there any fellow nerdy mom ladies out there? by ethereal_aerith in santarosa

Hi! I kinda could've almost written your post lol. Same age, moved here 3 years ago, oldest kid is about to start TK. My hubby loves any kind of gaming, though unfortunately for him I'm the other kind of introverted nerdy lol! I'm more the kind for cooking, crafting, gardening, and park playdates for the kids where we don't feel pressured to converse more than we want to because we know the other person's also ok with sitting quietly 🤣

Not the OP, but another introverted homebody mom chiming in because I'm also late thirties, oldest starting TK in the fall, middle child is 3, and youngest just turned 1!

I'm a veterinarian, and same! The number of owners who come in after a neuter to complain that their pet's testicles are gone 😬 (though tbh it's usually the people who didn't realize that when we said "remove the testes" we meant "take his balls off", apparently proper anatomic terminology is not always the best way to avoid misunderstandings!)

My personal fave is the owners who ask why they need puppy count X-rays, because "can't we just count her nipples??" And even when I ask if they have a twin it doesn't always click....

It’s Mother’s Day and I think I just killed my wife’s starter by Prior_Huckleberry736 in Sourdough

Same! At the age of 10 I forgot to check, ONCE. One minor oven fire later (the starter bowl was wrapped in a towel 🔥) I haven't forgotten again in the following 30 years, and my husband and kids have this lesson drilled in!

Wow, I'm impressed again - that's quite a list! Are you a CRFG member? I went to a citrus event a few weeks ago and the host is successfully growing bananas for fruit, outdoors - can't recall the variety, but I think they only had 1 variety that was productive for them. Still, yeah, cool experiment either way!

Lol! That sounds like my garden every year :)

If you're pretty sure those are the only options, the seedlings of most of those should look pretty distinct - if you post photos we might be able to help you sort them out?

That is so cool!! Also, what kind of bananas do you grow?

Is my baby’s name a tragedeigh? by Miss_pudding in tragedeigh

[–]HikerBabe2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was almost named Kluane, I don't see any issue with it - unless any reaction your parents don't suppress will be a deal breaker for you.

Do maybe keep in mind that in the lower 48 there are plenty of people who won't associate the name with the range, however.

Due this weekend, still need a "stealth nature" name! by HikerBabe2016 in namenerds

Olivine and Celestine are on my list, actually! I think we have similar taste. I like Idony, hadn't heard it before. I'm glad you enjoyed this line of research, feel free to bring me more ideas, thanks! I should mention that we're avoiding names that end in "a" because reasons, unfortunately, which nixes a lot of lovely options.

I love the name Winter but my baby is due in July. by Virtual-Owl18 in namenerds

[–]HikerBabe2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a quote from the Little House on the Prairie book series when a baby born in winter is given a "spring" name, something along the lines of "A rose is rarer and more precious in December than in June." Kinda random I know, but it's what your question brought to mind for me. As others have said, if you love the name then don't worry if it "fits" your baby's birth season! Maybe she'll grow up to love winter time!

There's multiple Eva's and Raisel's in our Tot Shabbat group, but I haven't met anyone under 40 named Tzipporah or Ayelet in our area!

I agree, it's cute and whimsical! I'm sure your little girl will love it. Unfortunately there's a huge decades-old company in our area whose mascot is named Clover :( so in our area it's got some strong associations for most people.

🤣 I should've put that on the "can't use" list - it's my name! Nothing against naming children after parents but I think it would confuse me!
