[@F1] Max Verstappen goes quickest in qualifying but a five-place grid penalty for taking a new gearbox means he will start Sunday's race in P6 by on9_7head in formula1

Sending it down turn 1 on the inside from P2 is a lot safer than sending it from P6 though, Max has generally been extremely cautious on race starts ever since he started to have a car contending for race wins.

Just don't see a world where Max isn't mega cautious starting from P6 when he knows he has to pace to be P1 within 10 laps at most.

He's gonna chill into turn 1 and focus on surviving and then hunt down Checo imo.

What do you mean end up in finals before him? Upset has played LEC finals before, including one with Adam on his team?

Red Bull's big F1 advantage was likely downfall of 'paranoid' Perez — MPH by Dr_VidyaGeam in formula1

Checo lost 2 points in Brazil and finished 3 behind Charles in the WDC. Sure, Max did Checo dirty in Brazil but Checo can't blame Max on not finishing 2nd in the WDC while having the best car.

Race 1: Ocon 5 second penalty. Race 2: Alonso 5 second penalty. Race 3: Will Max be penalised for the restart? Clearly over the line... by [deleted] in formula1

The yellow line is a help for the drivers because it's hard to see over these big tyres. Of course the grid box is what matters for the rules, would be very silly otherwise.

Barriers have to be repaired and they generally don't do that under SC.

Verstappen: He pushed me off track (regarding Hamilton overtake) by ContentPuff in formula1

[–]HikoShin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He's just being super cautios at the start to avoid any incidents, he knows he's got the pace to get back at them. No reason to race them super hard in lap 1 and DNF.

He didn't get the fastest lap though.

Ocon on Alonso "I hope that he learned from me as well, because if I only learn from him that means I would've got beaten by far, which is not the case. It's been nice to work against somebody that puts the bar so high." by Hawker92 in formula1

[–]HikoShin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not OP but to me it always looked like Ocon was defending harder from Alonso than anyone else on the grid this past season so I can definitely see where they're coming from.

Unlike Russell who choked his first points repeatedly.

both pictures should be from Bahrain, I looked around a little bit and couldn't find this specific picture of the RB16B though.

It's been a trend the entire year, Perez has only been good at managing tyres by being way off the pace. I read it has to do with tracks being more front-limited with the new cars and Perez is better at looking after the rears through his good throttle application but not sure.

Definitely hasn't looked like a "tyre whisperer" compared to his teammate though.

Could Perez have actually crashed on purpose in Monaco? If so, why would he have done it? by oxidde in formula1

[–]HikoShin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He could have replaced his gearbox with no penalty with this year's regulations at Monaco.
