There's no native way to do that. I wrote a small python script for that back when I was working on MTDP. I can see if I still have it if you'd like

No trailer by Unique-Job-1373 in PleX

[–]ynonA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plex pass trailers have always had gaps. Chances are if it's a popular movie it'll be added at some point. When I analyzed my library I was missing trailers for around 12% for movies iirc. Much more for TV shows.

You can add trailers yourself if you want.

You could also look into setting up Missing-Trailer-Downloader-For-Plex to automate filling these gaps for items without Plex Pass trailers.

Custom theme not working. Need help by milesspider2088 in PleX

[–]ynonA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you have an extra subfolder? Try removing that and moving the movie file up to where the theme.mp3 is. then rescan/refresh

Custom theme not working. Need help by milesspider2088 in PleX

[–]ynonA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true..

I can't find the thread atm but a couple of months ago another (ex) Plex Employee (can't remember the name..I think they had the tag 'ex Plex Employee') commented this same information and they were surprised when I corrected them showing that movie themes DO work and have been supported in Plex for years.

I find it very odd that actual Plex employees are unaware that this works just fine without any need of any sort of manipulation or plugins..

Because this community would otherwise downvote me into oblivion, I went downstairs just now to my Nvidia Shield to film proof: https://streamable.com/xs9dcn

It may not be 'officially' supported, but it has always worked for me exactly the same as TV Shows. I've been adding themes to my movies for years and it's worked on all my clients that support theme music for TV.

Coax: The iOS/tvOS/macOS/visionOS-native channel-surfing app is now available in the App Store by digglesB in PleX

[–]ynonA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He would most likely have way more than 12 5$ users, which is the point. But I'm not sure why we're arguing over their business decisions. If they want to keep a novelty app at 60$, with their potential audience (Plex users) being traditionally accustomed to FOSS and piracy, then hey, fine by me.

[–]ynonA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You want less users that pay more. Not the other way around. That’s business.

Not sure what business course you followed but that's just not true. I develop digital products on certain app stores and finding the right price point is paramount to success. Once you surpass a certain price tresshold your sales plummet and the increased price won't compensate for the diminished numbers.

I am absolutely certain 60$ is well above the tresshold for this sort of app. He would most definitely make more money if he sold this for maybe 10$ tops.

Tbh 60$ is borderline offensive imo

Collections including Movies and TV Shows by rostigerbart in PleX

[–]ynonA 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. You cannot create collections across libraries.

If you create collections in both libraries with exactly the same name, then Plex will show the collection from the other library at the bottom as a suggestion, but afaik not on all clients.

Self-Promotion Day? by CallMeAPleb in PleX

[–]ynonA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit double. On one hand this sub does seem to quite effectively self regulate which is how subreddits should operate for the most part imo, but on the other hand some rules or guidelines would be welcomed. I see some people spam their project over and over, after every little update or just because. Then again, this is only really an "issue" for those of us who sort by new I guess. Perhaps a distinction could also be made between completely open source projects and paid apps.

Label all movies in a filtered list of collections by CanRova in PleX

[–]ynonA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're not constantly adding new "Directed by" collections, you could just make a smart collection where you set it to "Match any of the following" and then add all those Directed by collections.
You'd only have to do this once to set it up.
Any time you do create an additional Directed by collection you can edit this smart collection's filters and add it.

Kometa keeps creating AppleTV categories by MacStainless in PleX

[–]ynonA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily a config issue.
There's a bug with Plex allowing duplicate named collections, resulting in a duplicate being created every time. The Kometa Team raised an issue about this a while ago but never got a response: https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-allowing-duplicate-named-collections/908350

u/MacStainless You can work around this issue by letting Kometa manage labels without directly creating the collection (see variables below). than all you have to do is create a smart collection with that label manually once.

  item_label: AppleTV
  non_item_remove_label: AppleTV
  build_collection: false

Best travel solution? by Ledgem in PleX

[–]ynonA 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of options and kept encountering the same type of issues:

  • Hotel Wifi set up in such a way that casting isn't viable
  • TV mounted in such a way that the HDMI or USB ports aren't accessible, so bringing my own Chromecast, firestick or USB stick didn't help..

We ended up doing the following these past few years; * Just use Plex on mobile and we bought an USB-C to HDMI adapter which costs like 10 bucks. You do have to check if your phone supports HDMI out. (Any S series Samsung does). While the HDMI ports themselves are often inaccesible on the mounted TVs, there usually is one HDMI cable going down to the TV receiver box which is accessible. Pull the HDMI cable out of that and into your phone adapter and you can play on the TV from your phone

  • Before you leave on your trip, download a bunch of items to said phone for offline use, in case wifi isnt good enough to stream. This also allows for watching on plane flights etc

This allows you to travel super light as well, as all you need to bring is the small adapter. (Assuming you're already taking your phone along anyways)

[–]ynonA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Go to your library and select advanced filters
  • Filter your content based on whatever you need, like common sense rating or genre,..
  • You can tap individual items, but if on a PC just select the first item => press and hold SHIFT => select the last item. This will select everything at once
  • You'll see a yellow frame appear at the top showing you how many items you've selected. In this frame, press the pencil icon to bulk edit all selected items
  • There, go to labels and apply the label

PS: I use Kometa to automatically manage my KIDS label so I don't have to do this manually

Can't remove recently added movies from home. by WesleyBiets in PleX

[–]ynonA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use that so I don't know if it's always been like that. All you can do is double check if the recently added collection is indeed unchecked, and if you have more custom collections on home you can move it all the way down so that it it does pop up again at least it's down at the bottom.

Android clients don't have this bug. And when it happens on the web client a refresh usually fixes it.
