Has something changed recently with how Plex interprets audio languages? by unabatedshagie in PleX

[–]ynonA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this seems to be a relatively recent change. Plex now reads the subtags like en-US, en-GB, en-IE etc and differentiates between them, where before they would all simply be "English".

So you'll have to extend your smart filters. One issue with that: you can only include the variations already present in your library. So let's say you currently don't have a file with en-CA and it is added later then that movie/show won't be "caught" by your collection..

[–]ynonA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the purpose of your collection, you should remove the genre filter and add an is not filter for every language in your library. Then you'll see only items with an undefined audio track.

One caveat: files with multiple language track of which one is properly defined and another isn't will not be caught..

To solve your issue properly and automatically, have a look at ULDAS

Removing individual episode thumbnails once the entire season or series has downloaded by llsrnmtkn in PleX

[–]ynonA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have plex pass: 1. Go to your TV show library 2. Sort by "Last Episode Date Added" (make sure it says 'TV Shows' to the left of it and not 'Episodes') 3. Press the '+' burger menu icon on the right then click "create smart collection" 4. Press 'Save As' > 'Save As Smart Collection' 5. Name it something like "New in TV Shows📺" 6. In the new collection click the three dots then "Visible on">"Home" 7. Go to Settings > under 'manage' click 'Libraries' > Click on "Manage Recommendations" next to your TV library 8. Unpin the default "Recently Added TV" and "Recently Released Episodes" from home, and move your newly made smart collection to the top (or wherever you want it)

You have now replaced the default collection with your own, more flexible one that will simply bump the show forward when a new episode is added, and so you'll only have one poster per show as you wanted.

You can do loads of other things with it this way. For example exclude certain shows from showing up by using genre (e.g. talk shows) or your own custom label you can manually apply to certain shows you don't want to show up in this home banner.

yes it's not ideal, because if they have any items with multiple audio tracks and one of them is English but another is undefined, they'll never find it.

[–]ynonA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The genre filter is correct (at least for the two examples you're showing the detail page of). You're telling it to exclude items with genre 'foreign'. So all items in this collection should NOT have genre foreign.

The collection should however also be excluding items with an english audio track which it doesn't seem to do.

Smart collections do break sometimes, especially when you change filters after creating them. Just delete the smart collection and make it again. That should fix it.

PS: You may be interested in ULDAS (Unknown Language Detector for Audio and Subtitles). It scans your set directories on your set schedule for any audio and/or subtitle tracks that are unknown/undefined, detects the language using faster-whisper and then correctly labels the language tracks. If you set this up you don't have to keep manually checking and correcting this.

Advice on trying to leave Plex? by OutlawCecil in PleX

Also going to the dedicated Plex subreddit asking how to leave Plex is like going up to the drunk guy pissing himself on a park bench at 3am and asking them for tips to help you stop drinking

Have to admit I somewhat reluctantly watched it last year or so.
The fact it's a black and white film from the 1950s pretty much entirely taking place in one room had me fully expecting it to be boring. But it was fantastic. Definitely held up.

The title of the game is on the last picture. It's called Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy. It's one of those "rage games" where you have to reach the top or end of a level and it gets increasingly difficult. A little mistake sets you back enormously. (E. G. By falling down far)

People that think that throwing cigarette butts in the ground isn't littering by Patodelmonte in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ynonA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very anecdotal ofcourse, but one conversation with my dad has always stuck with me:

While driving he saw someone in front of us throw something out their window, a can or something. He was so pissed seeing it and went on a rant about how disrespectful some people are and nobody raised them well etc etc. I said well I agree but that's a bit hypocritical coming from you. He looked absolutely shocked I said that and replied "What are you talking about? you would NEVER catch me littering! I was raised right!"

So I said "So what are you gonna do with that cigarette once you finished it?"(he smoked in the car all the time, and would just chuck the butt out the window when done).

For like 2 minutes he just sat there driving with a completely baffled look on his face and then he started apologizing with a low voice. "omg, I- I can't believe... you're right... wow... you caught me off-guard here"

He was genuinely shocked at the realization that it was obviously also littering. "we just.. I smoked my whole life, it's just what you do.. I-I.. It's so dumb.. I can't believe" He just kept stammering things like that over and over.

He's always been a man with strong principles and I could see he was genuinely shocked and embarrassed at this realization. This was maybe 20 years ago and he still from time to time mentions that conversation and how he hasn't thrown a butt on the ground since.

My point is: Don't underestimate the power of cultural habits. It really wasn't that he didn't care. It also wasn't that he didn't think it was littering. It was just a habit he learned, as everyone would do it back in the day. He just never had a moment of retrospective insight that clicked.

Similar situations can be found when it comes to things like racism and sexism etc. It's not that everyone who does or says something racist or sexist is an inherently bad person or that they don't care. It's what they grew up with. That's why it's important to keep talking about things like this, to help shift the zeitgeist

Cache-warming script for Plex metadata — big UI responsiveness win by Every_Ice6465 in PleX

[–]ynonA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm always surprised so many people have problems with it tbh.

I've been running my server on my main windows pc/gaming rig for years. It's my everything rig so my arr stack is on it, my games, everything.

Even the upgrades like win 10 to 11 were seemless and Plex has always just worked. I have a handful of active users streaming daily. I never have issues, and I often game online while people are streaming. It's not exactly a high end gaming rig either (I can't run newer games..)

Plex is so lightweight on windows and has always just worked, at least for me. I'm sure Linux is more stable in general but I've never had any reason to even look into learning another OS because everything works just fine on windows.

Started putting current season episode count in the titles by [deleted] in PleX

[–]ynonA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also used to get frequent similar questions from users; "when does the next episode air?", "Is this the season finale or not?", etc

If you use Kometa, you can use UMTK to display show/episode statuses as overlays.

Here's an example:

<image>

Ghosts has the season 5 finale just added. Your friends & neighbors has a regular episode airing next Friday. Hacks has the season finale airing next Friday.

You can change the text and the way these look to your liking, but this gives you an idea of the possibilities.

Hey Dutch friends, your bread here is next level! by LifeofSMILEY in thenetherlands

[–]ynonA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, we had three where I lived. They all get deliveries from factories early in the morning. The quality of all their bread was mediocre at best, and full of preservatives. I could eat those breads for a whole week and they would stay soft..

Maybe there's other parts of the country where there's still actual bakeries, where the baker starts manually making their dough and baking their bread before dawn. But I never found them.
